Can anyone please tell me how on Earth this could be?

I’m on the Cambridge diet, just one bar a day.
Iost 2lbs week one..brilliant!
Week 2 weigh day is today , but I did a sneaky weigh in yesterday as my clothes are feeling a bit looser and I have stuck to it, great, another 3lbs gone. That was last night. Ate nothing, had a bath went to bed…
Tonight I weighed myself.
6lbs ON.

Today I have eaten x1 weetabix with almond milk at breakfast, 5.30 this morning.
12.30 I had x1 Cambridge bar. Just got in from work so hopped on the scales… 6lbs ON. ON.
How the fuck can I have eaten so little and witching 24 hours put on 6lbs???

I think I’ve got IBS as I’ve been to the loo twice today.
Had 2 cups of black decaf coffee and 1 litre of water.

I’m perimeno, cannot move any weight even though I stick to less than 800 calories a day,

Gutted, absolutely gutted.

It will be water, there’s no way on earth you could have put 6lbs of fat on in 24 hours.

You said yourself your clothes feel looser. There are so many variables that will change the number on the scales so try taking measurements and also photograph yourself week on week.

Diditopknot · 31/01/2022 18:31

It is IMPOSSIBLE to shift any weight as a perimeno woman.

No matter what I do I cannot shift a pound.

Eating so little isn't good for anyone. Eat a bit more 1200-1500 cals, drink plenty of water and exercise/move. Weighing yourself so often will be depressing as your weight can fluctuate so much over the course of a day or two. As PP says, weigh once a week and maybe take some measurements so you can track inches lost....

Have you moved your scales? In our old flat I could change my weight by a stone depending on what floor type I stood on ( carpet/ laminate or tiles)

Diditopknot · 31/01/2022 18:38

No, same spot for scales.

Normally weigh weekly but was so chuffed at how well I’d done all week I just wanted to see.

If I go above 1000 cals a day, I gain between 2-4lbs a week so Jane to stick to below 900cals a day.
I’ve drank 1l of fluids today. That’s it.

I was once put on a 700 calorie a day diet by a hospital dietician. I never list a pound, despite following it absolutely rigidly for around six weeks. I gave up. Some time later it was suggested to me that such a low calorie allowance could effectively prevent me from losing weight as it was just not enough food.
I would try to vary your intake so you eat a different amount each day, that way, your body doesn't become used to the same amount every day.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/01/2022 18:42

What step is that on the Cambridge diet and what has your consultant said?

BanjoString · 31/01/2022 18:44

Have a 15 hour break between at least one meal (Including sleeping). I’m just about my lightest weight ever at 49.

Marcipex · 31/01/2022 18:45

I don’t understand the eating too little thing.

People in interment camps with hardly any food did not all stay the same weight. They became very thin.

FailureToLurk · 31/01/2022 18:48

Your going to enter starvation/storage mode.

You are best off sticking to about 600 -800 calories of carbs, procecessed food and protein. And then just eating loads and loads of broccoli, cucumber, grapes, salad vegetables. Cabbage, melon and all other basically water based/low calorie fruit and veg.

You have to feed your body not starve it to loose weight, but you must feed it healthy things.

That's over a long period of time though, not short term starvation diets.

Diditopknot · 31/01/2022 18:53

One bar a day, that’s all I’m having.
Consultant I don’t think gets where I’m coming from.

Water based foods is a fab tip actually, I can easily do that as I’m vegetarian with very very little dairy.
I’ve had one egg in the last year, so I’m pretty much plant based too.

Still bloody massive though.

I’ve been on diets all my adult life but have got huge the last 3 years.

Are you following the actual Cambridge diet? You didn't answer why step you are following, and what was your weight at your consultant's today? You said today was weigh day? What did their scales say?

How much do you currently weigh and how tall are you? If eating more than 1000 calories results in you putting on 2-4 lbs in a week, I'd be concerned that there's something wrong with your metabolism
OrangeShark27 · 31/01/2022 18:59

You clearly haven't put on 6lbs of fat overnight. That's impossible. Your saying the diet isn't working but your clothes feel looser so it clearly is. There's no point pondering over how you could have put on 6lbs overnight because you won't have done

ApolloandDaphne · 31/01/2022 19:00

God I would be so hangry if I ate so little. I have lost 18lb since November on WW and I eat loads. I am 59 and so I know it's not easy but I don't understand what eating bars and shakes does to help your body understand what proper nutrition is and allow it to function as it should.

Diditopknot · 31/01/2022 19:02

12 stone 4 yesterday, today 12 stone 10 today.
5ft 1.

I’m on the middle step with Cambridge, I started it before Christmas so can’t remember, same thing happened so I gave up after 5 weeks. Started again 2 weeks ago. Had only put on 2lbs though while off the diet.
I have one bar but option to have another or a shake but I can’t bring myself to have another bar as they make me bowk as they are disgusting.

janicewheeler · 31/01/2022 19:03

I wish I had your willpower I'd be bloody starving

Diditopknot · 31/01/2022 19:04

I’ve done WW numerous times and slimming world, nothing works.

Did you weigh first thing in the morning each time? Weight can fluctuate lots during the day.

Ok, breath you've got this.

Plan.

Start journalling your food intake and then weigh weekly. Forget fads and pay to do diets.

Keep it simple, healthy food , lots of it. Measure carbs appropriately and a portion of protein is the size of the palm of your hand for a meal.

Drink plenty of water.

Try and move more, even if it's just a ten minute walk a night/morning.

Of after 4 weeks of this if you have seriously not seen any weight loss or have gained. I'd go see the GP personally.

Frederica852 · 31/01/2022 19:10

I lost 3 stone on Cambridge and the absolute key for me was 2 litres of water per day in addition to coffee/tea etc. If I didn't get enough water in my weight was really weird like yours has been. If I stuck rigidly to 2 litres I lost weight every week

LittleDoritt · 31/01/2022 19:12

You need to drink much more water than that on Cambridge. My friend does it and is encouraged to drink between 4-5 litres a day. Confused

FusionChefGeoff · 31/01/2022 19:14

I would highly recommend reading Why We Eat Too Much - it has loads of science based info including various studies that show that short term starvation diets send your body into panic and it starts holding onto fat / water and slows metabolism right down.

If your body is confident that there's plenty of food around, it will reduce hunger hormones, speed up metabolism and happily release fat and water.
