Does everyone on here have a high salary?! (And if so what do you do?!)

Since joining MN it seems like everyone posts about having high earnings etc but at my work high paid jobs of like 100k are for directors with 30+ years of management experience with masters and doctorates (and as most orgs its like a pyramid hierarchy so only 2 top jobs and loads of staff at the bottom).

Where is everyone else working to earn these amazing salaries?! I thought earning 24k for an admin job was not bad considering some admin jobs in my area are around 18k - 20k but it seems like I must be doing something wrong not to be earning mega bucks!

Anyone else? Grin

Band 5 nurse, ICU, 20 odd years experience. Very little opportunity here for promotion. 9 years for one band 6 to come up. I earn £25k for 30 hours, more like £32k full time. Love to know what those folk do with no qualifications who end up on 6 figure salaries !!

The classic example of a job where you can earn big with no qualifications is sales.

Obviously business owners and entrepreneurs can earn big with no qualifications.

Mumsnet is a world of its own where people seem unable to understand there is a big world out tuners where people have different experiences and earning potential than them.

It’s sad that is a woman claim a large salary they are often called a liar here. What careers do you advise your daughters to go into?

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2022 00:30

192

That is 192 pence per hour, for minimum of 35 hours work per week. (which can include night waking) no extra for anything above that.

so no, not a big salary. Grin

Bit strange that in 9 years they have been no band 6 positions in your ICU? Most ICU's have a reasonably high turn over of staff. Perhaps if you moved around you could get a promotion.

I'm qualified 13 years and been a band 7 ooh coordinator for 5 years, ICU and ED background, critical care post grad and a few other courses but haven't done a masters.

Have you heard of self selection bias?
People who have high salaries are probably more likely to post replies to questions about how much they earn...

Where on earth did you get these statistics 😂😂😂
Cherrybomb197 · 31/01/2022 10:41

@camperqueen54 the type of world where people can tell you any salary they want and you can’t check because it’s anonymous

AuxArmesCitoyens · 31/01/2022 11:47

the giveaway on MN is when they say something like they earn 150k for 6 hours a day but are extremely frugal

Not always, that description fits me to a tee! sorry to disappoint. High seniority in my career = loads of freedom to manage my own time as I see fit.

Enzbear · 01/02/2022 10:27

Not at all disappointed, 100% expected.

TeeBee · 01/02/2022 12:23

On six figures, self employed running two companies (pharma-linked sector). My partner doesn't live with me so it doesn't matter what he earns but I think its approximately one-fifth of what I earn.

tiffanyheart · 01/02/2022 13:00

I earn 75k plus a 20% bonus. I work for a company in the city doing marketing & comms.

Hellopetty · 01/02/2022 13:06

heyitsthistle · 01/02/2022 13:11

£71k as an L4 software engineer. I'm 34.

Cherryblossoms85 · 01/02/2022 13:15

I work in a senior role in IT in the city. I earn £135k basic plus bonus plus 12.5% pension. I have a masters and additional professional qualifications and certifications. I think I'm overpaid, but not turning it down!
