Scalp psoriasis treatment?

Wherehasitgone · 29/01/2022 20:03

Anyone recommend a shampoo/treatment for scalp psoriasis? I used to use nizarol with huge success but for some reason it’s no longer working! The usual Tars don’t work for me either Sad

I usually take humira but I’m 30 weeks pregnant so haven’t been on that since I found out. Atm I’m putting on pro topic but needs to be applied every night which means I’m washing my hair everyday which I think is aggravating it! Double edged sword Sad it’s really getting me down, so itchy and flaky! My hair never feels clean.

I find Bettamouse on prescription really good but not sure if that's suitable for you at the moment.

FloatyBoaty · 29/01/2022 20:08

Body shop ginger shampoo

Only thing that’s ever worked for me really

I have awful Psoriasis (and the Arthritis to go with it!)

I use Etrivex which my GP prescribes, it’s not greasy and works quite well.

Would rather stay away from steroids for the moment but obviously something has to give! Also had no luck with the body shop ginger shampoo. God I’m literally counting down the days until this baby is out, my skin is so tight and uncomfortable!! Has anyone tried this? I’m spending a fortune on ‘sensitive’ shampoos that all irritate my scalp Sad

M-folia

Just Google it - the scalp oil is brilliant and really works

NiceTwin · 29/01/2022 20:34

T-Gel? Or do you class that as one of the tars you have tried?

Second this!
SisterAgatha · 29/01/2022 20:37

I use

Nizorol
T Gel
Vosene
Head and shoulders

In rotation. I rub magic Egyptian cream in to it before washing to soften it as well so that it doesn’t break the hair off. Good luck.

SisterAgatha · 29/01/2022 20:39

Also when you stop using it, nizoral May well start working again. I leave it on for ages and sometimes just rub it in neat on bad patches and leave overnight. Probably not the way but oh well.

Also bite and sting cream is 1% steroid so I use that sparingly on the worst patches when it gets v bad, just to stop it taking hold.

Betnovate scalp from the GP, it's the only thing that helps me.

Igneo · 29/01/2022 20:55

Have any of you had any success with sebco?

fizzybootlace · 29/01/2022 20:59

I've used betnovate lotion with good results, agree it's a pain to wash your hair every day but it worked for me to get it under control then I was able to use t gel a few times a week after that. I colour my hair as well and that seems to help it weirdly, maybe the ammonia? Hope you find something that works!!

Spandang · 29/01/2022 20:59

Capasal really worked for me (and it was horrendous).

Igneo · 29/01/2022 21:02

It is good for clearing scales but no more.

When people are recommending stuff, is it basically good for dampening down irritation, but never really making it go away?
My dr said nothing would make it go away, and just to clear the flakiness with sebco.

CornishTiger · 29/01/2022 21:04

Moo Goo. Honestly it’s worth it. I had years and years of scalp issues. After a couple of weeks this solved it. If I’m ever unfaithful my scalp is in a mess!

BeautifulBirds · 29/01/2022 21:06

Coconut butter over night, Cantu shampoo and conditioner.

I found once I had my little one my skin improved dramatically. My mum was the same.

ABCDEF1234 · 29/01/2022 21:07

Nizarol is the only thing I've ever found to work (or atleast pre and post pregnancy). It was less effective during pregnancy at which point the Dr supplied a steroid lotion that was applied to dry hair twice a day (I can't remember the name unfortunately) - it burnt at first but worked really well.

Vichy Dercos has been an absolute life changer for me

Marmite27 · 29/01/2022 21:12

Body shop ginger stuff made mine worse.

I use head and shoulders and this oil once a week. Leave it on as long as possible before washing out. I can put my hair up wet or leave it to air dry now, doing that before used to make it so itchy!

Wherehasitgone · 29/01/2022 21:56

Definitely given me loads of stuff to try! First on the list is Capasal as I can get that from super drug. I’ve order some of the oils online to try also. It’s awful, it’s all around my hair line so very visible and all over my face. There’s only a few spots over the rest of my body but my face and scalp seem to have taken a real hit! Bloody typical isn’t it Sad I may have to give steroids a go but I’m so frightened of steroid withdrawal!!

Calcipotriol - prescription from GP.

PuppyMonkey · 29/01/2022 22:06

I’ve had scalp psoriasis for 40 years. All the shampoos etc work for a certain amount of time. Then for some reason they stop working. Very annoying. Things like the ginger shampoo from Body Shop did nothing for me. Polytar, Alohosyl, T-gel - they’ll stop working for some utterly unknown reason.

Im on Philip Kingsley itchy flaky scalp and tbh it’s the best for quite some time. I’ve used it for several years now and touch wood it seems to keep it under control. Very expensive though so you need to find it on eBay or places like Feel Unique.

mynameiscalypso · 29/01/2022 22:08

I use a mix of capasal and the head and shoulders for itchy scalp. It doesn't clear it but makes it just about manageable. I really feel for you. I went off Humira in pregnancy and it was a nightmare postpartum. I went back on it quickly but it seems less effective now so having to switch to another biologic. Psoriasis is so shit.
