Cool things to do with 2 teens around Covent garden

We'll be visiting London in a few weeks with two teens (16). We're staying in an apartment in Covent garden & I'm looking for good places for food / things we shouldn't miss that might be interesting v ri them

We're not from the UK though it's not our first trip to London. We'll do some of the main things - Tate, national gallery etc we've previously been to London Dungeons & tower of London & natural history museum
I'm looking for quirky things teens might like but not escape rooms
We'll be there 3 nights
Thanks!

This isn't too far from convent garden and is close to a tube station novelty-automation.com/

NalPolishRemover · 29/01/2022 14:58

Thanks @SoupDragon will check it out

Joe Allen’s for supper

Speed boat trip on the Thames

Camden passage

Columbia road flower market on a Sunday morning followed by a mooch around Brick Lane market

( other fun market areas are Spitalfields and Ridley road,)

I would also try to get to some lesser known historical places like Eltham Palace, proper London history but also small and quirky, and good snowdrops!

Greenwich is another possibility, the maritime museum is fascinating, Greenwich itself is beautiful and you can walk under the river using the foot tunnel!

ThePlantsitter · 29/01/2022 15:04

Would definitely go to Camden Market even though it's a (short) Tube ride.

You done Borough Market?

Coal Drops Yard

Sorry it's all a bit shopping based! Going up the Shard is £££ but weirdly worth it and the light means photos taken at the top are always flattering.

NalPolishRemover · 29/01/2022 15:05

Thank you both so much! Loads of things there to check out - v exciting! Much appreciated

Its 2 girls & they love cake - any really good places?

Also we won't arrive till after midnight on the first night, will everything be closed?

Bills for breakfast in Covent Garden.
EL&N is popular with teens it’s on my dd 15 must visit list when we go in the summer.
Check out Neals yard it’s just off Covent Garden.
China town would be fab to wander round, grab a bubble wrap waffle for dessert. Sorry my list is food heavy, that’s what my currently looking at for our trip.
Some walks I’ve looked at and am currently researching are:
Little Venice to Camden lock
Loop 5 of the jubilee walk
South bank.

Just remembered Mariage Frères, French tea emporium (shop is not a good enough word) they do afternoon tea with a difference. In Covent Garden so easy to get to. Also Bridgets Bakery.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/01/2022 15:37

Definitely Camden Market

Runningmummy41 · 29/01/2022 15:49

Doughnut time on long acre does the best doughnuts (and has a decent vegan selection 😀). The bridges are lit up at night and are beautiful.

If you like Asian cuisine, Inamo had a restaurant in Covent Garden. They have interactive tables where you order and can play games etc - it's a cool concept and the food was decent.

viques · 29/01/2022 18:32

Just to clear up any confusion Camden Market and Camden Passage are different places with different vibes. Market is in Camden and is full,of market stalls, young people places, cafes, bars, funky shops. Passage is in Islington, there is an antiques / expensive junk market/ stalls, plus trendy shops, bars, restaurants and pricey funky shops. I meant to put Market in my post as you are entertaining teens!

NalPolishRemover · 29/01/2022 20:00

Thanks for all these suggestions, they're really great.
Is there a good place in the general area for Sunday brunch?

dollyknocker · 29/01/2022 20:06

Mother Mash on New Row for pie/sausage and mash.

There is a Dishoom in Covent Garden too (someone mentioned Dishoom upthread), they actually do a great brunch! Or Bill's.

Glossier for make up. My teens are obsessed but you might have to queue.

viques · 29/01/2022 20:57

If you went to Columbia Road flower market there are lots of eating places round there , including Laxeiro, the best (IMO) Spanish restaurant in London, ditto brick lane market which has a great bagel shop plus other choices. There is also Browns on st Martin’s lane.

HelloDulling · 29/01/2022 21:03

Seven Dials Market is a converted banana warehouse just off Neal St. It’s two floors, loads of different small independent food traders, so much choice. Long shared benches and tables in the middle. Great for people watching, and it’s near all the shops than teen girls need to visit. My teens love it.

Gonnagetgoing · 29/01/2022 21:07

All of these plus Southbank for browsing and food.

Gonnagetgoing · 29/01/2022 21:08

Neals yard used to be good off Neal Street did have Slam City Skates there.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 29/01/2022 21:08

It's a ten minute walk from Covent Garden to Chinatown, you could go and eat proper dim sum, choosing is half the fun and so tasty!

Gonnagetgoing · 29/01/2022 21:09

Could also try portobello road for markets but it was very commercialised last time.

Hackney markets and Hackney cool still.

Gonnagetgoing · 29/01/2022 21:11

London aquarium and big wheel next to it are expensive but “good”. On and off bus or river boat tours also good but you can go eg from Greenwich to Westminster piers for cost of Oyster card ticket.
