Hi so I have pre-eclampsia and my blood pressure is being controlled properly with meds so they've booked me a section for 37 weeks but my consultant has said they may want to bring her earlier. If anyone's baby was born at 36 weeks can you tell me if they needed special care or not? I know this won't mean mine will or won't but I like to have stories and opinions on this sort of thing. Thanks everyone!

Congratulations! Flowers This has brought a tear to my eye!

Your first post was on DS2's first birthday. He was born around 37-38 weeks (depends whose measures you trust) by ELCS. I'd had the steroids and he was 7.14 but still needed oxygen in HDU for 24-48 hours as his lungs weren't mature yet. Just goes to show you just can't tellSmile enjoy your little chunk (she looks a good size).

My youngest was born at 36+6. He was in nicu for 5 days and then on the postnatal ward with me for 3 days. After that he did really well and breastfed like an industrial vacuum cleaner Grin.

DS was born at 36weeks. They are prone to jaundice at this stage so make sure they watch hi/her blood sugar level. DS was very sleepy and had the “judders” ( they raise their arms and as they do so they judder) he also had a very ketony smell on his breath ( smells like pear drops). I’m aHVP and spotted the signs but was so tired and thought the midwives knew what they were doing I didn’t mention it DS ended up in NOCU at 36 hrs old almost comatosed due to very low sugar.
If you have any concerns please mention them. DS was lucky and received treatment before there was any permanent damage. As a result the maternity unit changed policy and started monitoring 36weekers more closely. I think it shocked them into action, especially when my first question to the consultant was “what was his glucose level at birth”.
