What's it called where different food is served all together (no separate plates)

I'm sure there's a name for it. Everything is just squished together regardless of what it is.

Someone tell me before I go insane!!

bitchinofhitchen · 27/01/2022 17:49

Slops?

WhereYouLeftIt · 27/01/2022 17:51

Grim?

pudseypie · 27/01/2022 17:52

Breeding ground for cross contamination?

LavenderAskew · 27/01/2022 17:53

@Opti2021

A grazing table?
Yes, that's it!!

Thanks.

I got shown a picture of one, they thought it was a serving for one person and was very much "what they hell!!".

Looks amazing and 'insta ready' as they say, but like a PP, surely once people dive in it would look hideous. Not to mention the contamination risk at the present time.

They don't look insta friendly at all IMHO.
pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 27/01/2022 18:33

🤣 at "slops" 🤣

megletthesecond · 27/01/2022 18:34

Crap for vegetarians and people with allergies.

LovelyBitOfSquirrelInTheWirral · 27/01/2022 18:39

🤮

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/01/2022 18:41

Service a la russe is what we usually do nowadays - each course is served separately. Before that become fashionable, all the food for a meal would be put on the table together which is why there are pictures of Georgian banquets with desserts on the table with the meat, etc.

Dillydollydingdong · 27/01/2022 18:43

Unhygienic

TurquoiseDragon · 27/01/2022 19:59

I wouldn't eat from a grazing table. You have everyone touching that food and no idea whether those people have washed their hands before touching it.

In fact, I'd guarantee that at least some people won't have washed their hands...

Yuk.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 27/01/2022 21:26

Never heard of this. Just googled it and it looks quite disconcerting.....( I think it belongs in Tudor times with a pig's head as the centrepiece).

TooTiredForAdventure · 27/01/2022 21:56

I’ve just googled pictures of it 🤢🤢🤢

mnahmnah · 27/01/2022 22:12

Just googled some pictures. It’s a recipe for germs and illness, that is. Grim.

Ylvamoon · 27/01/2022 22:18

🤮

BurntToastAgain · 27/01/2022 22:28

I googled too and lots of the images seem to suggest this is some hideous current wedding trend. It doesn’t even look nice with everything just sort of piled next to everything else.

I just kept looking at the photos thinking: that would look so much nicer and be easier to choose bits from if it were displayed sensibly, with different bits on different serving platters.

Tigertigertigertiger · 27/01/2022 22:32

Horrible modern trend !

SanFranBear · 27/01/2022 22:32

@TheYearOfSmallThings

A trough?
This made me proper laugh - thank you!
BurntToastAgain · 27/01/2022 22:37

I wanted to be all: oh you’re all being hyperbolic and ridiculous.

But no. It’s a really crap way of presenting a cold buffet.

Hairyfriend · 27/01/2022 22:41

Communal bowl?

Hairyfriend · 27/01/2022 22:44

@Hairyfriend

Communal bowl?
I misread the OP and thought you meant everyone helping themself from the one plate.

I'd called a grazing table a 'noro table'.

gogohm · 27/01/2022 22:52

So I'm not the only one who thinks dumping everything on the table is stupid. Nothing wrong with a buffet with plates!!!!
