Where do you shop?

I live within 2 miles of Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Morrisons, Iceland. Asda and Sainsburys are 6 miles away. I have used Morrisons more over lockdown due to NHS discounts / free delivery but pre covid always shopped around, mainly shopping at Lidl and Aldi for the basics and Tesco or Morrisons for things I couldn't get there.
I do a Morrisons online shop every week for an elderly relative and have noticed a lot of prices going up, this week I went to Aldi and stocked up on lots of basic items, I spent £49.01. Out of curiosity I just entered the same items into Morrions and every item except one was more expensive (the Morrisons savers butter was 3p less than Aldi butter).
The cost in Morrisons was £69.61, I expected it to be more expensive but not £20.60.........everything I bought was basic everyday stuff apart from a pot of fresh basil 47p in Aldi £1.25 in Morrisons). I was so shocked I then compared to Tesco which was £58.22........many of the items were price matched to Aldi and some had clubcard offers. I know many people don't like Aldi / Lidl but both my local stores are excellent with a quick turnover of fruit and veg so I will be sticking to them! Obviously, it depends on what your shopping baskets contain, but it seems that for me Aldi is definitely cheaper

Weekly shop at Aldi- then a couple of Sainsbury’s visits in the month for the odd thing we can’t get at Aldi.
I love Aldi !!!

HerRoyalHappiness · 20/01/2022 12:43

Asda for me as aldi and lidl don't deliver. I used to shop at lidl but I can't since my disabilities worsened as I can no longer carry shopping

JustFrustrated · 20/01/2022 12:46

Tesco.

But I HAVE to have delivery because otherwise I don't stick to my meal plan and shopping list. I average £65 a week on evening meals, breakfasts, cat stuff and basic toiletries.

£100 a month is on school dinners for the kids. DH and I either don't eat lunch/buy out of the home/just have baked beans or something.

We definitely don't go without in this house, but as we don't buy Alcohol particularly, it keeps costs low. I also as I say, meal plan efficiently haha.

Mainly Aldi with the odd shop at Sainsburys or Tesco for favourite branded items. I prefer Aldi because of the prices but also because it's quick and easy, I know where everything is and they rarely change it around. I could probably go around blindfolded and do a weekly shop Smile

IDontHaveThePelvisForAFuton · 20/01/2022 12:52

Oh and the cat will only eat Aldi Cat food pouches!

Eileen101 · 20/01/2022 12:54

Tesco. The allergen labelling is better and they deliver. Plus the fruit has a longer shelf life than our local Aldi.

Guacamole001 · 20/01/2022 12:59

I find it cheaper to order online. I just stick to Asda. Not bothering with Lidl right now as ds got bored with the bakery and I was going just for him.

User48751490 · 20/01/2022 13:03

Lidl all the way. Occasionally Aldi. Rarely Tesco, Asda or Morrisons. Further away but also expensive.

Vampirethriller · 20/01/2022 13:06

Aldi. The one near me is very good and in walking distance.

Dubgirl1212 · 20/01/2022 13:08

Aldi for main shop and top ups from Tesco express as its right beside my house.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 20/01/2022 13:16

Aldi click and collect for the main shop, with top-ups from Waitrose and Sainsburys for anything they don’t have.

Camomila · 20/01/2022 13:20

DH does the food shopping (he enjoys it, especially collecting nectar points).

He buys half the shop at Sainsbury's and half at Aldi).

He is much better than me as I wander round thinking "ooh this looks nice" whereas he sticks to the list.

Monkeybutt1 · 20/01/2022 13:33

I shop at Asda as its only 10 minutes drive from me but I get some bits from Lidl because I prefer theirs, the fresh OJ & garlic bread. My son has a club near a Lidl so we pop there during that as we can't stay and watch. If not I would just get them from Asda I think.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/01/2022 13:34

Mostly Aldi, some Morrisons and spend most of the savings with occasioal trips to M&S & Waitrose.

If you have a variety of supermarkets a similar distance apart, you could buy most of your shopping from Aldi, but occasionally go to Morrisons or other supermarkets, eg when you need a top up shop, get the extra bits and anything different you like from that shop, or if there's a good offer, stock up.

I've never followed the 'buy the same things from the same supermarket on the same day every week' model that most people seem to follow because in my mind it doesn't make sense to do that.

UniBallEye · 20/01/2022 14:05

Weekly shop at Aldi, we love it and ours is really great.
Every few weeks I go to M&S and about once a month I go to Tesco to get some branded stuff the teen dc like (noodles / crisps / cereal etc)

But 99.9% of our day to day shopping is from Aldi . We'd be lost without it. It is so convenient. In and out in no time and the produce is so good.

Lemonnhoney · 20/01/2022 14:09

Aldi for main shop, then Morrisons or Tesco for bits I can't get in Aldi.. mainly dairy free items

timestheyarechanging · 20/01/2022 14:19

Lidl for essentials and local market for fruit/veg and fish/seafood. Farm shop for meat. Used to be Sainsbury's for everything but the saving is significant.

ParkheadParadise · 20/01/2022 14:22

Tesco usually for the main shop.
I do a weekly visit to M&S food hall.
I always go to my local butchers/ fruit shop instead of buying from the supermarket.
Walking distance from my house I have Asda, Aldi, Waitrose and M&S food.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/01/2022 14:40

Why Tesco if you have all the other shops in walking distance?

Tesco seems to be the worst of both worlds, more expensive than Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons and Asda and worse quality than Sainsbury's, Waitrose and M&S.

With that choice of shops, I don't think I'd ever use Tesco.

Totally agree with the sentiment- if I plan to spend more than Aldi I want better quality and a nicer shopping experience. The Tesco’s and the Asda’s near us are dirty and unorganised
Squiff70 · 20/01/2022 16:46

Asda and Lidl

Squirrelblanket · 20/01/2022 16:51

I shop mainly at Aldi, although will arrange an occasional Tesco delivery in really busy weeks. There's a few things I can't get at Aldi so I'll stock up on those when I do the Tesco shop.

CraftyGin · 20/01/2022 16:53

I go to Sainsbury's every day.

Ragwort · 20/01/2022 16:59

I am not loyal to any supermarket - my preference would be to shop in Waitrose but the nearest is 15 miles away, our local Morrisons is very good and we have a small Sainsburys and CoOp nearby. I really don't like our local Aldi but there is one about 10 miles away which is much better. I went to a Tesco today as I was out and about but it was disappointingly low in stock. I genuinely like supermarket shopping Blush so I am happy to shop around. Never done an online order in my life.

AuntieMarys · 20/01/2022 17:00

Sainsburys...huge one within a mile and a half. I use the scan and shop to make it quicker
