Where do you shop?

I live within 2 miles of Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Morrisons, Iceland. Asda and Sainsburys are 6 miles away. I have used Morrisons more over lockdown due to NHS discounts / free delivery but pre covid always shopped around, mainly shopping at Lidl and Aldi for the basics and Tesco or Morrisons for things I couldn't get there.
I do a Morrisons online shop every week for an elderly relative and have noticed a lot of prices going up, this week I went to Aldi and stocked up on lots of basic items, I spent £49.01. Out of curiosity I just entered the same items into Morrions and every item except one was more expensive (the Morrisons savers butter was 3p less than Aldi butter).
The cost in Morrisons was £69.61, I expected it to be more expensive but not £20.60.........everything I bought was basic everyday stuff apart from a pot of fresh basil 47p in Aldi £1.25 in Morrisons). I was so shocked I then compared to Tesco which was £58.22........many of the items were price matched to Aldi and some had clubcard offers. I know many people don't like Aldi / Lidl but both my local stores are excellent with a quick turnover of fruit and veg so I will be sticking to them! Obviously, it depends on what your shopping baskets contain, but it seems that for me Aldi is definitely cheaper

Local, small Sainsburys for meals - 1 mile away.

Local Aldi for basics - milk, bread eggs etc - 5 min walk away.

Sainsbury’s usually, if I drive in one direction I the first supermarket I come across is Sainsbury’s if I drive the in the other direction the first supermarket is a Sainsbury’s……

Mainly use Tesco (a small to medium sized regular store). I live within walking distance. We also have a tiny sainsbury's and an iceland at the far end of the high street and a co-op in one of the local estates that stays open late. Waitrose is a 5 minute drive. Asda, Lidl, Morrisons and Aldi are all more than 30 minutes by car.
I reckon what I pay in higher food prices I save in fuel, so there's no net gain by going to one of the discount shops.
I also shop daily and only buy what I need immediately and can carry. The local Tesco doesn't have a clothing section so I'm not tempted to pick up clothes I don't really need.

Wherever I’m passing, I’m not loyal to any particular supermarket
I most commonly go to Lidl, then home bargains next door for household stuff. The Lidl is lovely and new and there’s a new Aldi nearby too, which is nice

Between times, I might pop into Waitrose for bits, but not a full shop or Asda. We’ve also got an M&S nearby, but again, I don’t do a weekly shop there

I don’t often shop in Morrison’s, as I don’t like the drive there/access. The nearest Tesco is a bit of a drive away, so I only go there if out that way. I rarely shop is Sainsbury’s, as a weekly shop seems more expensive there, compared to Asda

Waitrose mostly because it's a 5 minute walk away, big Sainsbury’s once in a while for things Waitrose doesn't have. Tesco, Lidl or M&S if I'm that way for other reasons, e.g. the dentist. Very rarely Asda or Aldi, because I don't usually have reason to very over that side of town.

gogohm · 20/01/2022 17:07

Lidl mostly because it's a 5 minute walk away. I prefer Morrisons but it's 9 miles away.

Weekly shop delivered from Ocado, lunch from Sainsburys express or the local coffee shop and top up from Aldi as it is on the way home.

I do a mixture & have actually found Tescos more reasonable than it used to be, although I do have a Clubcard which makes a difference to quite a few prices. I like Aldi but can’t do a full shop there so my main store is Asda. Lidl is good too although I don’t tend to go very often & again I’m not able to do a full shop there. Our nearest Sainsburys is a good 20 minutes drive away & Waitrose even further but both of them are expensive. I will pop in if I’m passing. Waitrose has a great wine selection. Morrisons is in the same town as Sainsburys but I have always found it expensive. I like Co op, even though it’s pricy, particularly for their fair trade range & their end of day reductions are often very good.

Pretty much Tesco, though I do go to the others if after something specific or it's more convenient.

We don't shop in Lidl or Aldi as need they don't do specific gluten/lactose free items I like or specific brands for one child with sensory issues.
