40+5 lost my mucus plug is labor near?

So I'm 40 weeks and 5 days pregnant and totally demented. Bounced on my gym ball for 10 minutes tonight and felt a sensation and my mucus plug came away. I'm due to be induced a week today. How likely am I to go into labor myself?

I went a walk hoping something happens soon. I'm scheduled for induction next Wednesday and ideally would like to avoid it. Aw I know I just want to see her face now!

Lost my plug at 5 am Monday morning, baby born Thursday afternoon. It was very long, back to back labour. Hope yours is not! I've heard walking sideways up the stairs can get things moving? Like a crab!

Melvin2021 · 20/01/2022 21:07

I'll give it a go! Willing to try anything at this stage haha

What about the tonic water approach? I think I read that one on here. I drank 1.5L on a Friday and DS arrived on the Sunday!

eandz13 · 21/01/2022 11:45

Any luck OP? I'm still impatiently waiting Sad

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 12:06

No luck atall. I'm so deflated! God you must be demented aswell. Maybe TMI but I've ended up with clear watery discharge this morning? I've had slight period cramps down low for days but no contractions have you had any pains?

OP posts:
eandz13 · 21/01/2022 12:21

I've had the same! I've had to keep checking that it's not my waters leaking. Are you sure it's not your waters?
I've had loads of cramps, tightenings, period aches, I keep getting excited at every little twinge. I'm booked in for induction on Monday now, I'm desperately hoping something happens over weekend Sad

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 12:48

I dont think it's my waters. It seems discharge rather than liquid? I'd imagine if it was my waters it would have been obvious but then I've never had a baby before haha. I've had like a couple of tightenings randomly but not came to anything. Oh are you Monday? Have you been induced before?

OP posts:
eandz13 · 21/01/2022 13:05

Yeah, I was induced with my first, this is my 4th. I'm mainly keen to avoid induction because of all the waiting around - it can get pretty boring/anxiety about it can build up if you're left to wait a while on the ward (mine does, anyway!). In my experience it's just been simpler to labour spontaneously Smile

Notwithittoday · 21/01/2022 13:12

Avoid induction if you can. Walk lots. If you must have the induction I would try to get them to give you an epidural before they put you on the hormone drip. I was too late for one and Induction pains are hideous- not like normal labour. Guineapiggiesmalls · 21/01/2022 13:18

Hopefully your baby arrives before your induction, but don’t fret too much if you end up being induced - I was and would absolutely do it again. People are too quick to share horror stories!

Sandles12 · 21/01/2022 13:20

Try to keep bouncing on the ball and do plenty of squats. And keep walking. Use gravity to help. During labour also try and avoid lying down.

Sandles12 · 21/01/2022 13:23

And all the best! Remember your body was designed for this, it'll know what to do!:-)

candycane222 · 21/01/2022 13:34

Walking seemed to help it for me, both times. A good long walk, 2hrs or so. The 'discharge' could be leaking waters , too. Best of luck, you've got a couple of days still haven't you?

RuthTopp · 21/01/2022 14:10

Twiddle your nipples , and eat pineapple , have a curry and if you can still manage it , have a few orgasms !

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 14:19

Thanks for all the advice! I'll keep trying everything I've got 5 days until induction so fingers crossed. So with the hormone drip I will defo ask for epidural first I've heard alot of people saying that. Do they try gel first to see if it works or do you always get the drip?

OP posts:
Notwithittoday · 21/01/2022 16:52

So they usually do gel, then break your waters. They give you a few hours after they break your waters ( 2 hours at my hospital) to go into labour then they want to put you on the drip. I don’t know what the exact stats are on how many women end up on the drip but that seems to be where it gets a bit hairy.

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 18:00

I wanted an epidural anyway so I'll make sure I don't get caught out with that. Are you allowed your birthing partner with you when you're being induced?

OP posts:
Theawkwardblonde · 21/01/2022 19:47

I additionally advise epidural before drip! I had my little girl 2 weeks ago and wanted no epidural. My waters went and was induced on the drip. I managed 10 hours then needed an epidural..I was having 5 plus contractions in ten minutes and my contractions were doubling up (hyper stimulation of the uterus- very painful). It was very hard to stay still with those level contractions for my epidural. If you get put on drip and want pain relief, id recommend getting an epidural earlier rather than later.

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 19:58

I'll definitely make sure I get an epidural before the drip. Is it as horrific as people make out being induced? I feel as if I'm so worried about it

OP posts:
Gardeniafleur · 21/01/2022 20:02

Honestly once I’d had the epidural I was just sitting eating haribo fangtastics, reading mumsnet and watching the monitor like ‘oh goodness, those contractions look intense. Have two kids, still never felt a contraction!

Notwithittoday · 21/01/2022 20:13

Wish I hadn’t felt a contraction. Like pp with my second I was over stimulated on the drip and went to 10cm dilated within minutes. I was howling at them for an epidural, literally howling. So different to normal contractions. I had my first baby drug free and there’s definitely a difference in the intensity of artificially stimulated contractions and normal ones

Notwithittoday · 21/01/2022 20:19

@Melvin2021 some people have perfectly ok inductions. My friend did. It just depends how your body reacts and how ready your body is anyway to give birth. Unfortunately nobody has a crystal ball so I suppose it’s a hope for the best but cover yourself for the worst. I was a bit naive going into my induction I think!

Melvin2021 · 21/01/2022 21:29

@Gardeniafleur would you definitely recommend an epidural then? I've always been quite sure I wanted one until one if my so called friends said that was horrific in itself but she loves a drama. Did they give you it early?

OP posts:
Stath · 21/01/2022 22:24

Using a breast pump whilst bouncing on a yoga ball helped me into labour with my last two DC.
If your body is ‘ready’ then it can really get the contractions going.

FlowersGood luck @Melvin2021!
