Best clothes shops for skinny DC

INeedNewShoes · 18/01/2022 12:07

DD (nearly 5) is average height for her age but very skinny on her waist.

She prefers wearing trousers but I find it difficult to buy trousers long enough that will stay up.

One way around this I've found is to buy French clothes like Verbaudet that are slimmer but I can't afford to do this with everything (what I do get I tend to get on eBay).

Are any of the UK brands (particularly the more affordable ones or supermarket) clothes better for skinny children than others? She has TU school trousers which are ok with the adjusters pulled in a lot but it would be nice for her to have some trousers that aren't bunched around the waist so much.

We got a lot from H&M for my tall skinny 2. They lived in their leggings for years.

MadeInChorley · 18/01/2022 13:13

I came on to say that Petit Bateau was always best for my skinny Minnie kids. They are pricy, but eBay or sales

PlinkPlankPlunk · 18/01/2022 13:23

M and S do a super skinny range of trousers that are usually in their back to school promotion.

I used a lot of Boden for my very slim daughter - not cheap but there is an amount on eBay. I found if I got good fitting leggings, jeans and tights, if didn’t matter so much if the tops and jumpers were more baggy. Gap pyjamas were usually a good shape too

H&M and George at Asda

Draw string joggers are your friend.

Sammilouwho · 18/01/2022 13:40

We use h&m, also Lindex (online) are brill, they have adjustable waist even with leggings!

Aspidistra1 · 18/01/2022 13:41

Zara trousers are our friend for narrow waisted DS. Jeans are about £12 but can often get on eBay.

mogschristmascalamity · 18/01/2022 13:45

Boden have adjustable waists in a lot of their trousers.

My tall skinny DD lives in leggings. And skirts/dresses 2 sizes too big with Boden footless tights or leggings when she feels like it.

I only buy second hand or new with the £10 vouchers and 20% off codes they send several times a year.

minipie · 18/01/2022 13:48

H&M. Their leggings and jeans are perfect for DD who is the same, tiny waist slim hips average height. Their jeans styles do vary in cut, I think the one we buy is called Slim Fit.

SundaySundaeSundaySunsundae · 18/01/2022 13:51

Agree with George at Asda

EcoCustard · 18/01/2022 13:55

I find H&M took big in the waist for my skinny children. Next are ok if you go for their skinny or super skinny. M&S are hit and miss. And quality has been questionable of late. Asda used to be great but all the jeans and leggings fall off their hips.

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 18/01/2022 18:37

Agree with H&M! They're the ONLY brand that fit my beanpole teenage DD

InThePresenceOfWeevil · 18/01/2022 18:37

(And has been since she was a preschooler)

6464zz · 18/01/2022 18:44

Zara
Adidas for sports stuff.

WreckTangled · 18/01/2022 18:49

Always had this issue with dd. H&M and Gap were our go to. H&M have the adjustable waist (lots of places do now though) plus the leggings always fitted well and Gap were always on the small side for everything. I never found anything at George in asda that fitted dd, the leggings were always huge on her.

NotTheGrinchAgain · 18/01/2022 19:10

Oh same here! My DD is now the height of a 12 year old with the waist of a 9 year old. Which doesnt seem that extreme to me, but is just skinny enough to make you adjust clothes, or have adjustable waistlines that are all bunched up, or clothes that simply fall down!

I agree about shopping in France where expectations are that kids are slimmer (although often shorter to so you have to jump the age range). I got some good bargains on Kiabi, a French store a bit like Primark.

Leggings nearly always look like pyjamas on my tall skinny DD. Thicker leggings from M&S have often been okay, I tend to avoid the shiny sports kind as they look awful when they are baggy.

Adjustable waists at M&S in Jeans can be okay, but I find there's only so much adjusting you can do.

The Gap Kids range has a tall, skinny jeans category. These have been excellent.

I also tend to look for jeggings, which are designed to be tight but end up looking a good casual fit on my DD.

I also bought my DD a decent pair of ankle boots, you can get away with trouser legs that are not really long enough more easily.

In spring and summer, my DD just wears her leggings and jeans capri style.

But don't even get me started on jogging bottoms and tights for school! Absolute nightmare getting them to fit.

totorostoes · 18/01/2022 19:13

Lindex and their wonderful adjustable waists

doesthatmakesense · 18/01/2022 19:18

La redoute (online) has been good for all of us- I am not slim but am quite petite, both my dd are very slender and petite and their leggings have been long enough and not fallen down. H&M also good, but waistbands too big for my smaller dd.

Rummikub · 18/01/2022 19:24

Primark great for my slight dd

INeedNewShoes · 18/01/2022 20:12

Thank you everyone!

A few brands to explore here. I don't think I've heard of Lindex before so I'll start there!

This is a very useful thread - thank you OP! DD6 is tall and skinny, trousers are a nightmare! So will be checking out these recommendations.

YukoandHiro · 18/01/2022 20:43

My 4,5 year old has shot up recently and is suddenly extremely slim and even her leggings are now a little loose on her. Following for ideas

DownWhichOfLate · 18/01/2022 20:43

I’d second laredoute.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 18/01/2022 20:51

Try La Redoute as someone else also mentioned. Literally the only place I’ve been able to buy jeans for my slim 10 year old. Oh I tell a lie, I did get some from River Island but they were second hand, I wouldn’t buy them new.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 18/01/2022 20:52

As an aside, I
