Dd scammed Facebook market place

Dd (adult) purchased a phone on Facebook marketplace and stupidly paid by bank transfer. She received an empty envelope Sad no item.

There’s not much she can do is there?

Seller is saying item was in the envelope and it was sent signed for. The postman put it in the postbox and signed covid 19.

She’s contacting her banks fraud team and has reported to Facebook. What else should she do? Obviously I doubt she will see the money again.

@sochicsocheap

Honest to God. Op Dd paid by bank transfer, an envelope arrived (not adequate for a phone!), the seller can’t produce the full postage receipt and they can’t access the FB profile….but you think the postman stole it Hmm
@sochicsocheap I don’t think the postman stole it. I read my posts back because I was confused about why you would think that and can see that I said that I agreed with another poster who said to challenge the post office (although did later say that our postman is lovely). I don’t know why I agreed because I know it isn’t the postman or the post office.

Today they are both a bit more resigned to the fact that the money is gone and that there’s no phone.

I think we're at the stage now where if you're stupid enough to bank transfer a payment to a stranger on facebook marketplace then you deserve to have this happen.

This isn't new. Banks and facebook and gumtree and ebay and everyone else have been telling people for years that they should not do this and told stories about why. If people still decide to do it, then oh well. Time to learn a lesson.

Might be different for someone in their nineties but not for a full lucid young adult.

Nice detective work @TabithaTittlemouse
I agree about the delivery person, I think when things go missing in the post it's most likely someone involved in the transit process, rather than the postal worker who delivers the item. I had a sat Nav go missing in the past and Royal Mail just said it happens a lot.

@Itsalmostanaccessory if eBay can put buyer protection in place then Facebook marketplace can as well, it's quite frankly lazy that they haven't.

@anditgoesonandon

Facebook marketplace does have purchase protection for exactly this situation. But the OP's daughter didnt use that function. She didnt pay through the marketplace. She agreed to a bank transfer.

If you do that with ebay, they cant help you either. If you're stupid enough to go "off-site" and make a digital payment then you need to learn your lesson. Either stick to marketplace payment facilities by facebook or pay in cash on collection.

*facilitated by Facebook

Oh I see @Itsalmostanaccessory I didn't realise that they had a payment system. I have always done cash on collection with FB marketplace and kept to local.
