Why has all the press coverage of our corrupt government suddenly ceased?

Folange · 17/01/2022 15:54

I don't mean petered out, the way it usually does, it feels as though it has just suddenly stopped, from one day to the next.

Why isn't he resigning? What will it take for us to demand better from the people who are put in office for us and subsidised by us to do a job? We just don't seem to care anymore and every day they push the boundaries of acceptable behaviour further and further.

I know the running joke within the civil service is how short the public's memory is but surely we don't just move on from one day to the next?

I feel like starting a petition - is there a petition anywhere? I don't even know what I'd be asking for. Alexander de Pfefferwhatever out? And all his cronies? More transparency? Basic common decency? The introduction of proportional representation? I mean how broken does our system have to get before we stop looking at utterly corrupt dictatorships elsewhere and thinking "at least we're not...." ?

Still going on various programmes I listen to - LBC and R4

MrsTrumpton · 17/01/2022 16:33

Every time it looks like he is on the point of having to resign because of yet another lie something big happens to knock it off the main headline. Every. Single. Time.

I think the difference this time is that even Tory voters have wised up to this tactic and at grassroots level – i.e. the crucial level for him as PM –they're not prepared to tolerate it any longer. I honestly think he'll struggle to come back from this.

girlmom21 · 17/01/2022 16:34

If the Sue Gray enquiry doesn't go to plan I think there has to be a vote of no confidence.

That's due out the end of this week so they'll do everything they can to win favour until then.

Apparently Cummings is still busy working on decommissioning the trolley..

CorrBlimeyGG · 17/01/2022 16:38

The Sue Gray report will go exactly to plan, that's why they keep mentioning it. "Boris was a bit silly but it's all a misunderstanding. Silly Boris!"

I read only 24 more are needed to trigger a vote of no confidence.

Parties or people? Wink

YogaLite · 17/01/2022 16:39

He has been a journo so he knows very well how the news guys operate, so he is waiting it out.

22itsallnew · 17/01/2022 16:40

Well he's gone back into his fridge and we will all be told to 'move on' soon.

The day that oaf goes will be a good day in British history. He may still be PM but he's a laughing stock to everyone.

MrsTrumpton · 17/01/2022 16:40

CorrBlimeyGG 😂

GinIronic · 17/01/2022 16:41

What is the alternative?

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2022 16:41

@YogaLite

Haha at trolley.

Think he’s eyeing up his CV..

Won the un-winnable
Got rid of PM

Third maybe take down a religion

Didn't Liz whatserface tell us all to move on the other day? Before Boris decided to isolate even though he doesn't need to?

Probably because the rules he implemented are too confusing to follow ConfusedGrin

cherryonthecakes · 17/01/2022 16:44

Because they are now dangling "end of self isolation" and "end of plan b except masks" to see if the story will disappear. If the latter doesn't happen then I think that the Bozo stories will start again. You

cherryonthecakes · 17/01/2022 16:45

Ask end of license fee is being dangled as a carrot

Rosebuud · 17/01/2022 16:48

It’s not gone for good, something else will come up, but no one has silenced them, just it was all a bit outrageous and eveyone taking the piss for awhile. But the news has moved on and people aren’t interested in keeping reading about wine drinking at number ten,

Cuck00soup · 17/01/2022 16:57

Totally agree. Normally the Sunday papers & the Sunday am political shows would have been the beginning of the end.

It didn't feel like it yesterday and today feels like move along, there is nothing to see.

Because headlines about the BBC and being tougher on migrants is all that's needed. Hmm

According to this report Boris is going around saying 'why have they done this to me?'

Answering in the words of the brilliant Radiohead:
You do it to yourself you do and that's what really hurts, you do it to yourself you do, you and no-one else....you do it to yourself

He's like Trump, all ego, won't go until he's shown the door

22itsallnew · 17/01/2022 17:02

Hope Cummings has more twists of the knife. There's almost a Shakesperian quality to Cummings and Johnson's duel

SpikeySmooth · 17/01/2022 17:04

Lots of other "news" being pumped into the media from Government like Williamson's gong, the BBC and Boris saying he'll limit the Navy picking up English Channel migrants...also matters in the Royal Family are a good distraction.

We are not fooled, though.

Hortensia16 · 17/01/2022 17:06

It's death by a thousand cuts. Cummings will let Johnson think things are healing then he'll get the knife out again. Drip, drip, drip. It's humiliating.

22itsallnew · 17/01/2022 17:07

Yet another example of Johnson's fine judgment - a gong for Wally Williamson - or perhaps a mutant alogrythm spat that out?

Like a dropped ex with the cold revenge
22itsallnew · 17/01/2022 17:17

@MarshaBradyo as the saying goes you should be careful who you get into bed with. But we all know Johnson's reputation in that regard.

Folange · 17/01/2022 17:32

@GinIronic

What is the alternative?
But is that a good enough reason to turn a blind eye to what he's doing? Shouldn't actions have consequences anymore?

No use petitioning the establishment to change the establishment.

PerkingFaintly · 17/01/2022 17:37

Apropos of nothing at all, I've just happened across this clip. Tory MP interviewed when Johnson became PM, describing him as "always giving the impression he's about to change".

Over the sound of Darth Vader's glockenspiel Imperial March.

Sorry, just had to share.Grin
