Help me pick a hoover!!

ChatterMonkey · 16/01/2022 09:17

Spent ages researching and deciding on a hoover (needs to be from currys as I have vouchers), and decided on a henry.

Went to the shop yestersay and they advised against cylinder hoovers as one of the things I need from it is to pull my long hair that sheds, from the carpet. So said i would need an upright with ant-hair wrap bar.

But we also have stairs so dont want anything too bulky. Had another look and liked the ball dyson. Which apparently is out of stock, theres a nationwide shortage amd they have no idea when they'll have it back in stock...! 🙃

Had a look at the sharks, but didnt really like the aesthetics of the uprights, they looked a bit clunky. They have a cylinder hair wrap hoover but reviews say its quite heavy so not sure if it would still be cumbersome on the stairs...

Please I need some help, I either have to wait indefinitely for my first choice of dyson to come into stock, go with the original choice of a henry that might not pick the hair up properly, or go for a shark, but im so scared that im going to regret my choice!

This is the first time ive spent this sort of money on a hoover, its replacing a rubbish £30 one from tesco so want it to be a worthwhile spend!

Any recommendations or ones to avoid?

I have a shark upright, the body part lifts off to do the stairs and is actually really easy to use.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 16/01/2022 09:28

Shark everytime

WeaversDivas · 16/01/2022 09:32

The Shark liftaway is very good at sucking, but it is so bulky. The lift away bit is badly designed (it just flails around your ankles) because I need two hands to move the wand around on full suction.

I nearly bought a Henry before I got the shark repaired.

I love my Shark I've just bought my second one. It has the lift away part which makes hoovering the stairs so much easier. I'm a cleaner and I'm given a dyson ball to take out to work. It's really good too but I find hoovering the stairs very difficult because it's so bulky I can see me having an accident one day Blush.

I ve a shark and a dyson ...dyson for me

GoodnightGrandma · 16/01/2022 09:35

I agree that you need an upright.
I bought a battery Dyson and was shocked at how much hair was on my carpets when I ran an upright over after it. The Dyson is now a solid floor hoover and spider catcher.

MoiraNotRuby · 16/01/2022 09:37

I had a ball Dyson and loathed it with a passion. It kept collapsing on me and was like trying to hoover with a wonky shopping trolley. Admittedly I'm a left handed clumsy uncoordinated person and it might be better for you.

I've heard corded Sharks are great at getting up hair but very heavy.

Radish12 · 16/01/2022 09:44

Hi, another vote for the Shark here! I have long hair, two cats, stairs, carpets and hard floors. It's a dream to use, I don't find it at all cumbersome. I love using it so much my house has never been so clean! Grin

sonypony · 16/01/2022 09:47

I have and like the shark. It has lift away for doing the stairs.

acatcalledjohn · 16/01/2022 09:49

Miele C3 cat & dog. Great vacuum cleaner!

DefyingSanity · 16/01/2022 09:54

I've had numerous different Dysons over the years and they are all absolutely pants! End up being all bells and whistles and not doing the basic job of hoovering. I have a Henry now as I know it does the job, but it's not the best if you want an agile hoover.

Laufeythejust · 16/01/2022 10:03

We replaced our Henry with a handheld Dyson animal v8 a couple of years ago (the animal in the house being me and my hair Blush). It’s so much handier than the Henry was- doing the stairs is easy now instead of an assault course. I use it every other day- no issues with hair at all unless I leave it for a week then it gets a bit tangled but I just use scissors and it’s back to normal again. Would definitely recommend.

ChatterMonkey · 16/01/2022 10:54

Really happy to see lots of people happy with the shark, is it all uprights that have the lift away feature for stairs or is it a specific model?

We had a Dyson, which I gave away because they absolutely do lose suction. And now we’ve got one of those Shark liftaway ones with the anti hair wrap. It’s ok. It’s definitely better than the Dyson, but I still borrow my mum’s Henry every now and again and I’ll be replacing ours with a Henry when it dies.

BigValue · 16/01/2022 11:35

I’ve got the Shark anti hair wrap cordless. I moult like a cat so it’s good for that. Some reviewers said it was heavy but I find it very light, and I’m weak. It easily turns into a handheld to do the stairs with. I love it.

Miracle29 · 16/01/2022 11:39

I have a shark ninja and love it. I have a dog that malts ALOT. This is my second shark and wouldn't go back to anything else now. I've had 2 Henry's and though they were good to begin with I found they didn't last that long and they were a pain to drag upstairs

bebarkered · 16/01/2022 11:47

I've had a few Dyson's. Always been quite happy with them. Until I got a Shark. The lift away. There aren't enough words to tell you how good it is!

ListeningButNotHearing · 16/01/2022 11:49

Dyson V11
Excellent engineering and wouldn't be without one now.

Fallagain · 16/01/2022 11:50

Dyson cordless and a robot hoover.

frazzledasarock · 16/01/2022 11:53

Miele C3 cat and dog. I’ve had mine for seven years and we’ve got five cats including a domestic long haired one and if it dies I will buy the same one again. For about 1 minute once a week my house looks pristine.

We’ve also got a robot vacuum and mop which we run downstairs each evening so house looks fairly presentable on a daily basis.

WhoWants2Know · 16/01/2022 11:57

I have a green Henry, specifically because I moult like nobody's business. It's amazing what hair, and since it's a pet version it has a turbo brush attachment.

partystress · 16/01/2022 11:59

I’ve got a Halo, having got to the point where I would have happily hurled the Dyson out of the window. It is brilliant. Really light. Attachments just click on and off. Picks up brilliantly. It does have bags, but they’re sealed, so no mess - and there is always an offer on so you get about two years worth when you buy one.

I got it because it was Which and GHI Best Buy and I have been really pleased with it.

hopeishere · 16/01/2022 12:02

Following. I've just used my new carpet washer and realise pet hair is a major part of our carpets looming pants. We have a Henry atm.

loopylindi · 16/01/2022 12:03

I agree with a PP who said the Dyson was pants. I had one of the originals which was OK but this one..............It has to be shown bits of fluff and even then spits them out with distain. It's the one with a ball and it's so unwieldy and difficult to move around. I was thinking of replacing it with a Shark but couldn't justify the cost. Then it died - so I'm now in the clear.

purplesequins · 16/01/2022 12:04

we have a bosch eco something.
it's a small cylinder and very powerful.
we also have stairs, very steep ones and it's light enough.
our next choice would have been mirle cat&dog.
