Is there a bill tracking app that does this?

I’m looking for an app that I can input all my bills in a calendar on the date they go out and then once the bill goes out the app automatically puts a tick beside it or changes colour and deducts the bill amount from the total still left to go out. Without me having to update it every time a bill goes out.
So that I can open the app at any point in the month and see how much money I need to have in the account for the remaining bills and then make any transfers in my online banking if necessary.

Does that exist?

I use Monzo which goes one better - it moves all the money I need for bills into a separate "pot" at the beginning of the month, and then all the bills are paid from that pot. So I always know my bills are covered and any money in my main account is available to spend.

Thanks @peachgreen. So is monzo an actual bank account? It takes money from your current account and pays your bills?

Mono is an internet bank

The features are part of their current account that you can access via their app

I used money dashboard. It imports tx from bank /cc. You preset budgets in it and assigned them tags and then i Inteface the tx daily.

I will recognise the supplier and automatically put to a category (you can amend)

It then shows you total budget and remaining. Overall and by 'pot'

It's a free app.

I can’t vouch for this but my daughter uses it and loves it. It’s based on algorithms and is called Plum. Not sure it does what you want but worth a look 😊

Busygoingblah · 14/01/2022 12:40

I use an app called nova, it splits your money into fixed (bills and subscriptions) and variable (everything else) and you can look at both separately. I find it really useful to be able to quickly see how much is left to pay in bills.
It also gives you a graph of your variable spends for the month so you can instantly see if you’re on budget for the month or not

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 12:41

Thanks everyone! Off to read about them all.

My HSBC current account basically does this. It shows all bills due out and when and how much money is remaining until the end of the month.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2022 13:46

Or you could just split your money into different accounts and check on payday that the bills account has enough money for a month's worth of bills.

Put your spending money in a different account, so you know you can spend what's there without worrying about spending money that will be needed later for bills.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 15:00

@BarbaraofSeville that’s what I do currently but my account just gives me an account balance and doesn’t say the total £ of what bills are left to come out. I’ll admit I have slightly obsessive issues when it comes to my finances due to being on a really tight budget. Several times a month I end up going through my account and writing down what came out the previous month and then checking off what has already come out and what is left to come out this month and working out if I have enough left in the account. Some of my bills change, like credit cards or pet food etc. So I can put in what I think will be coming out but I sometimes need to add more. I’m just looking for an easier way to work out if I need to add more or not instead of writing it all out.

I’ve used an app called Account Tracker for this. There’s a free version you can try it out on.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 16:29

Well I’ve just spent an hour or so setting up money dashboard and unfortunately it’s quite irritating to use. It puts transactions in the wrong category despite me changing it numerous times and it repeatedly doesn’t load the screen. Very irritating. Now have to remove my bank accounts from it. And they have my data.

Agree with HSBC and their balance after bills feature. You do need to have it all on direct debit though, if I set up a payment manually it doesn’t show in that section.

Moonopoly · 14/01/2022 17:00

Monzo has totally revolutionised our finances. Makes it so easy to see what’s going out and when, plus as PP said you can create different ‘pots’ of money for different things

Moonopoly · 14/01/2022 17:00

It gives you a ‘still to pay this month’ and amount from previous months

NoSquirrels · 14/01/2022 17:02

You want YNAB.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/01/2022 17:03

I use an Android app called MoneyWise, it's quite old and all data is just saved on your phone (though you can export and import it when you change phones), but it does the job.

Did you toggle the 'remember' thing to green to say do for all future transactions? I have never had an issue with it not remembering.
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 17:47

There was no green toggle.

Is this the right app?

Is there a bill tracking app that does this?
OP posts:
Newnormal99 · 14/01/2022 18:23

Yes. When you change the category there is a little toggle button top right in the grey bar and you slide across and it remembers it for future.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 18:49

Ok I might try again then because otherwise it seemed to be exactly what I need.

Thanks everyone for the other recommendations too! Will keep them in mind if I can’t get on with money dashboard

Starling

BertieBotts · 14/01/2022 19:23

YNAB does this beautifully. Unlimited pots, plus you can automatically set up any recurring payments to be taken out automatically. You can also sync it with your bank if you want to. It works on a rolling basis so you only allocate new money when you get it. It works really well.

BertieBotts · 14/01/2022 19:24

You don't have to add your bank accounts to it if you don't want to, you can do it manually if you don't want them to have your data.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 14/01/2022 19:28

I’ve had a look at YNAB and it says free trial. How much is it after that? I can’t really justify paying for something like this.

Tried to get back on money dashboard and it keeps saying “oops there is a problem” so I’ve given up.
