Ready for an incredibly exciting thread? Here goes…

… I’m buying a new duvet. Rock and roll.

I’m torn between microfibre and down. I’d prefer microfibre but I haven’t bought a synthetic duvet for years so no idea what I’m doing. ATM I’ve got an M&S 2-in-1 duck and goose down one which is cozy and lovely but its gone all flat on the edges.

I’m after a 2-in-1 duvet ideally but I’ve read that the Panda duvet is a good all season one. Basically I need it to be breathable, warm in winter and cool in summer. I have night sweats so need to breathe Grin

My questions are: Are microfibre ones as good as down? What’s the best microfibre duvet? What should I be looking for? Anyone got any experience of the Panda duvet which seems to be everywhere?
Thanks so much!

Wool. Wool. Wool.
I have a useless body thermostat and I'm always too hot in bed.
-5C outside and I have windows open and a 7 tog wool duvet.
DH has a 15 tog single and I have 1tog and a 7.5 tog single wool duvets.
Both different brands, I think it's the content that mattersnot the brand.

I'm looking for a new duvet too and the baavet sounds great, esp as I have a tendency to feel the cold, yet to also overheat in the middle of the night.

However, I have just read in a mumsnet thread from a few years ago that the baavet duvet doesn't wrap around you. I'm guessing that means that it's quite 'stiff' and just lays on top of you, rather than moulding to your shape. I hate feeling draughts in bed and need to wrap the duvet around me, with no gaps, if that makes sense. Can you do this with a baavet duvet?

I have four of them, two in different weights for my bed and two medium for other weights. I haven't noticed this compared with previous feather and polyester ones. I wouldn't have any other type now.

I've had a Baavet duvet for years and have never thought of it as being stiff, it's not as puffy and fluffy as a down duvet but I've never had any issues with draughts

Jeez, this just gave me a minor heart attack. I can't abide draughts in bed.

I ordered the all seasons deluxe duvet from the Wool Room yesterday and it arrives tomorrow. Here's hoping it's not stiff, here's hoping DP doesn't have a terrible allergy Grin

I will let y'all know how we get on.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I wanted to let you know that I ordered an all-seasons from The Wool Room.

I was kinda disappointed when it first arrived because it's really thin. I've been used to a massive puffy down one which looks super cozy.

The first couple of nights I didn't sleep too well because it was stiffer than my down one so didn't mould to my body as closely.

But it's relaxed over the last week or so. And it's an absolute dream. DP physically can't wake up in the mornings because he's sleeping so soundly under it Grin

It's lovely, thank you all so much for recommending wool duvets - I never would've tried them.

@timtam23

Another Baavet fan, I love my Baavet wool duvet. They sometimes have a bargain bin online for their duvets, I got mine from the bargain bin with a fab discount. I think it didn't quite meet the standard weight of filling for a 3-season, so it was sold cheaper, but it's lovely and warm so I don't notice any difference
This is what I did. Mine, from the bargain bucket, was cheaper as it not quite the correct weight or dimensions for a standard superking cover. But I bloody love it! It is thin compared to standard duvets, but I will never go back to synthetic or down.

I'm intrigued by all the glowing reviews for these wool duvets but I love a marshmallowy duvet and fear the woollen one might feel a bit spartan in comparison.

I get you totally. My old down one was very 'marshmallowy' - great description.

My wool one looks a bit more spartan on the bed (it's much thinner).

And it doesn't feel as much like you're lying in the middle of a cotton wool ball because the wool duvet doesn't drape/fall all around your shoulders/head.

But it does feel much nicer than the down one. It's less sweaty and it feels like a more 'natural' warmth. That's such a bad description!

I'm addressing the spartan look of the duvet with lots of throws and cushions Grin

Glad you like your duvet @KStockHERO
Yes I agree the wool duvets look more like a quilt than a down duvet on the bed. But they are so cosy and even in the summer they're often not too hot to sleep under

KStockHERO · 02/02/2022 17:38

Grin I said to DP the other day that one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to summer this year is to see how the duvet performs. I need to get out more!
