Duvet Recommendations

Ready for an incredibly exciting thread? Here goes…

… I’m buying a new duvet. Rock and roll.

I’m torn between microfibre and down. I’d prefer microfibre but I haven’t bought a synthetic duvet for years so no idea what I’m doing. ATM I’ve got an M&S 2-in-1 duck and goose down one which is cozy and lovely but its gone all flat on the edges.

I’m after a 2-in-1 duvet ideally but I’ve read that the Panda duvet is a good all season one. Basically I need it to be breathable, warm in winter and cool in summer. I have night sweats so need to breathe Grin

My questions are: Are microfibre ones as good as down? What’s the best microfibre duvet? What should I be looking for? Anyone got any experience of the Panda duvet which seems to be everywhere?
Thanks so much!

I recommend a wool duvet like those made by Baavet. It's totally breathable.

Seeingadistance · 13/01/2022 18:13

Seconding the recommendation of a wool duvet. I got mine from The Wool Room and it's just fab!

Batshittery · 13/01/2022 18:17

I have a wool one from Baavet and I love it. I'm going to buy another for my spare bed if the lodger ever moves out Grin

We have Baavet

Bamaluz · 13/01/2022 18:21

Wool from Baavet here too, love it

cannaethink · 13/01/2022 18:28

I also recommend a wool one! They’re expensive though!

Frostine · 13/01/2022 18:29

Yes get a wool one. Not heavy , but lovely and toasty.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 13/01/2022 18:31

Another wool fan. Mine is from soak and sleep and is an all season 2 part one. Helps massively with my delightful night sweats but still snuggly.

timtam23 · 13/01/2022 18:31

Another Baavet fan, I love my Baavet wool duvet. They sometimes have a bargain bin online for their duvets, I got mine from the bargain bin with a fab discount. I think it didn't quite meet the standard weight of filling for a 3-season, so it was sold cheaper, but it's lovely and warm so I don't notice any difference

UpsilonPi · 13/01/2022 18:34

Also love wool. I've a washable one from the woolroom, I long for bed the whole day!

TooManyPJs · 13/01/2022 19:07

I second wool! I have bought from baavet and greenfibres. Both great. Wouldn't go back to anything else now.

JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 19:36

Not sure op but thanks to mumsnet I discovered soak and sleep.
We've got 90% goose down and 10% feather and it's an absolute joy.

So impressed.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 13/01/2022 19:45

Well after years of having cheap (but fine duvets) I finally bought a down duvet. There is no going back.

I did look at the wool ones - and would have liked to have supported them - but reviews seem to say they are heavy. I previously had a silk duvet...which was heavy.

Down duvets are like clouds...wonderful.

KStockHERO · 13/01/2022 21:37

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Lots of consensus!!! I've heard of Baavet but I'll certainly have a look tomorrow

Wool sounds so incredibly hot though. Isn't it just toasty all year round? I am really super hot and sweaty in bed (not remotely in a sexy way)!

I have a wool duvet for autumn/winter and a silk duvet for summer. It is the best combination I have found to regulate heat properly - night sweats have virtually disappeared since I changed to this.

supperlover · 13/01/2022 22:05

Another Baavet fan. We have them in different weights for summer and winter. I would never go back to feather or man made fibre. All of our baavet ones from bargain bin.

supperlover · 13/01/2022 22:07

Meant to say too that wool isn't too hot as breathable.

cannaethink · 13/01/2022 22:22

I use the same wool one all year round. It regulates your heat. I add a wool blanket on extra chilly nights though! I think I got the medium tog one from The Wool Room.

NannyGythaOgg · 13/01/2022 22:38

Wool or Silk

I have a silk one that I love - but I think I'll o for wool next time

timtam23 · 13/01/2022 22:49

@KStockHERO I don't find my wool duvet too hot in the summer, it's quite breathable I think. You could always look at the lighter weight Baavet duvets (mine is medium weight)

Ariela · 13/01/2022 23:16

@Whatdramain2022

I recommend a wool duvet like those made by Baavet. It's totally breathable.
Another vote for Baavet wool duvet, and pilllows

Also a wool duvet fan here, it isn't full and puffy like feathers which takes a bit of getting used to but so warm and yet not hot in the summer.

KStockHERO · 14/01/2022 10:24

My DP reminded me last night that he's allergic to lambs wool. I probably should've remembered this Blush

The Wool Room do a 30-night trial. I might need to go for this to see if DP can cope with a wool duvet first Grin

I'm looking for a new duvet too and the baavet sounds great, esp as I have a tendency to feel the cold, yet to also overheat in the middle of the night.

However, I have just read in a mumsnet thread from a few years ago that the baavet duvet doesn't wrap around you. I'm guessing that means that it's quite 'stiff' and just lays on top of you, rather than moulding to your shape. I hate feeling draughts in bed and need to wrap the duvet around me, with no gaps, if that makes sense. Can you do this with a baavet duvet?
