I'm pretty sure I coined these phrases, although I probably didn't

I'm certain I invented the word 'hangxiety' - I remember the moment I thought of it (about 12/13/14 years ago I guess), and how impressed I was with myself, and how I hadn't heard it before etc.

Similarly, 'hangry'.

I mean, I doubt I actually did invent them, I'm sure there's some explanation (I'm also not usually the kind of person that thinks they're amazing and comes up with all the stuff) but, is it possible that I WAS the first person to say these words and they spread out from little old me into the world? If so, wouldn't that be marvellous?

Anyone else think they were first to use a new word?

@Woofwoofbarkbark

I swear I invented " Got Milk"
Ross Geller, is that you? Grin

Ross in Friends swore he invented "Got milk?"

BusySittingDown · 16/01/2022 13:01

Ha! I didn't see your post @lynntheyresexswappers! I forgot to refresh the last page. Grin

BusySittingDown · 16/01/2022 13:02

And now I've realised that it's already been mentioned on a previous page!

I certainly invented drama llama when I didn't want to describe this particular anxiety-peddlar as a drama queen because she would only have heard the queen part & been secretly delighted. Now you can't move for bloody llamas Grin

Can't believe how many phrase/word coiners there are on mumsnet. Definitely going to try and further the cause of some of these puppies.

I read the word mentionitis on another thread earlier and I thought I had invented that and was the only one who used it!

I’m sure I invented tuna and sweet corn sandwiches though 😂

Cattenberg · 19/01/2022 12:19

I used mentionitis when talking to my family and none of them knew what it meant. DD had a bad case of mentionitis regarding a cute boy at nursery, bless her little heart. I don’t think the feeling was mutual Grin

To put it into context, when I was 11 I'd swear on my life I'd invited:

'cool' to mean something that's effortlessly fashionable...

and also...

wearing a rucksack on one shoulder (which is also cool).

Obviously I invited neither of these things. But I think I was the first to introduce either at primary school.

NewYearEveryYear · 19/01/2022 12:27

I DEFINITELY made up the word 'smasual' though, for smart casual. That I will defend to the last.

@Stiffcondomhat

My friend coined the phrase wine o'clock in 2002 when I drunkenly asked her what the time is.

I think this is one of those things where people are working independently the same thing at the same time, like the theory of evolution or discovering a planet.

There is a video of my aunt using wine o'clock back in the 80s.

My husband always says 'Shiggles', as in, 'let's have a look just for shiggles' (shits & giggles).

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2022 17:31

When my hairdresser does my hair she puts “tussles” in
It actually describes it pretty well

I didn't invent the term 'fanny gallops' to describe the feeling of being turned on (I know, I don't need to explain, it does what it ses on the tin) but I like to think I brought it to wider attention by being the first person to post it on mumsnet.
