I'm pretty sure I coined these phrases, although I probably didn't

I'm certain I invented the word 'hangxiety' - I remember the moment I thought of it (about 12/13/14 years ago I guess), and how impressed I was with myself, and how I hadn't heard it before etc.

Similarly, 'hangry'.

I mean, I doubt I actually did invent them, I'm sure there's some explanation (I'm also not usually the kind of person that thinks they're amazing and comes up with all the stuff) but, is it possible that I WAS the first person to say these words and they spread out from little old me into the world? If so, wouldn't that be marvellous?

Anyone else think they were first to use a new word?

@Pumpkinstace

I don't think the previous poster was saying she invented DTD, more that she was the reason for its rise in popularity within MN.
Ah, OK. Interesting, though, to see how far back the phrase goes.
justforthisnow · 12/01/2022 22:09

I genuinely invented the word Sporn, I even posted at the time, maybe 10 years ago? But it was in 90 Days Only and is long gone. Someone even asked me how I came up with it and I gave a full answer, re spot porn etc.

Pea79 · 12/01/2022 22:31

I thought I invented "fatbulous" (fat and fabulous), but when I looked it up, someone has beaten me to it.

JayniSummers · 14/01/2022 19:34

We call that neighbour who just KNOWS what bin day it is " the binfluencer "

LetHimHaveIt · 14/01/2022 19:46

I'm convinced my friend invented 'twunt' - she used it significantly before it became widely-heard. But 'success has many fathers; failure is an orphan' and all that jazz.

gluenotsoup · 14/01/2022 19:53

I didn’t mean I invented the phrase “ do the deed”, just it’s replacement of baby dancing on here…
Please keep this light hearted 🤦🏻‍♀️

@ShirleyPhallus

I think friends stole that from me.

canyon2000 · 15/01/2022 14:26

I invented the word situnario, a combination of situation and scenario, many years back. It doesn't appear to be catching on though!

Hoppinggreen · 15/01/2022 14:29

DH used to ask me to buy “Halalibos” to share with his Muslim friends

Twunt, cock badger and similar all came from b3ta.com in the early 2000s. They encouraged creative swearing.

I always thought it was short for pus porn! Grin
Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 15/01/2022 14:37

I'm absolutely convinced I invented the phrase "same shit, different day" Grin I remember saying it over 30 odd years ago whilst divorcing DH. Seems it caught on Grin I am still saying it 30 years later !

Gingernaut · 15/01/2022 14:41

Floordrobe

Howshouldibehave · 15/01/2022 14:43

I was on a wedding/baby website in the late 90s years when dtd was commonly used!

Gingernaut · 15/01/2022 14:44

Life admin - Ladmin
Chairdrobe - one step up from floordrobe
Snaccident - accidental snacking

Handsnotwands · 15/01/2022 14:44

I (well my child) invented both a word and a product: tomayo. Tomato ketchup mixed with Mayo. Then someone told me some pizza place, poss pizza express had —stolen my idea— already invented it

User310 · 15/01/2022 14:51

When I was young, I was attempting to say ‘terrible’ or ‘horrible’, either would have done, but instead I said ‘terrid’. It started off as a joke but still to this day people I know will use this word. I feel I invented this non word.

This is the legacy I leave, takes bow, you’re welcome.

User310 · 15/01/2022 14:53

*horrid.

Cattenberg · 15/01/2022 14:54

I came up with the phrase, “be kind to your future self”. Sadly, I wasn’t the first.

Yesterday, I came up with “Londonsplaining”. This is the habit London journalists have of travelling to a different part of the country, then telling the nation about it.

I don’t think they realise how London-centric they are. I remember one journalist writing in the travel section of a national paper that was quick to go to Paris on the Eurostar, much quicker than going to Edinburgh, for example. One reader pointed out that not for him, it wasn’t, as he lived in Glasgow.

Life admin - Ladmin

This makes me think of a 20-year-old, single guy in a shared house. His Ladmin includes renewing his Netflix subscription, ordering pizza and taking his washing round to his mum’s.

sadpapercourtesan · 16/01/2022 12:47

I DEFINITELY invented the phrase "soapy titwank". Catherine Tate deffo heard me say in in a lift or something and STOLE it from me.

I called DH a soapy titwank a good 10 years before CT used it in her show.

Namechanger20183110 · 16/01/2022 12:52

When husband is being an annoying git, I say he is manstruating. I don't for one second think I invented it but if none of you have heard of it, then I'm taking credit for it in this thread!

isthismylifenow · 16/01/2022 12:53

My friend made up the word 'situationship' years ago and takes full credit when she hears or sees this user anywhere now. To be fair this suits most of her relationships, so I think she should claim it.

Mine is obstropolous. Used the word for years get quite offended if someone else uses 'my' word.

lynntheyresexswappers · 16/01/2022 12:55

@Woofwoofbarkbark

I swear I invented " Got Milk"
Hi Ross!
