Boris as PM: how do we want this to end?

TheWhalrus · 12/01/2022 11:42

I think most of us are in agreement that Boris should probably resign as PM owing to the latest 'partygate' revelations. Nonetheless, he probably won't do the decent thing (he never has, really), therefore how do we see this ending?

My ideal scenario: Boris faces a vote of no confidence in the next few months that he very narrowly survives and continues as PM. The amount of discontent among his own party leads to a sufficient amount of defections and rebellion to enable an early election to be called (either later this year or perhaps in 2023) in which Boris subsequently gets comprehensively voted out of government, losing even his own seat in the process.

Bit of a long shot, I know, although basically I've realized I actually want Boris to lead the tories into the next election, simply to give the general public the chance to express their anger. How does anyone else see this playing out?

I am not sure the above would happen but yeah it would be my preferred scenario too, let them have an absolute hammering at the next GE.

Am not a particular fan of Keir starmer but at least he is not a compulsive liar!

More likely I think there will be a leadership challenge. I really don’t like any of the likely contenders though Jeremy hunt is probably the best of a lousy bunch. Not sure how much support he has within the party these days though.

Im2022 · 12/01/2022 11:50

I’d like him to stay until the next GE now. Only because I can’t bear the thought of billionaire boy Sunak or Umbridge Patel taking hold of the reins.

I hate Labour right now. I won’t be voting next GE. But I’m thinking many will vote Starmer as lesser of 2 evils.

Bawbag Boris is a lazy Bastard.
He's probably happy to go. Then he can fuck about with no questions to answer.

Thanks for the response so far. For those interested (not many of you, so far, it seems?), here's a handy guide to the most likely ways this could end: www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jan/12/crunch-time-for-boris-johnson-how-will-this-end-for-beleaguered-pm

He should resign.

Viviennemary · 12/01/2022 12:31

Boris is finished. I will be glad to see the back of him and his ghastly smug wife.

hamstersarse · 12/01/2022 12:37

I hope it doesn't end with Michael Gove

Boris needs to go but I have a feeling of doom that the replacement could be even worse

I have met Boris a few times and I do think he is being honest about the fact he wanted to thank staff who were working extremely hard - he is pretty loyal to his staff as we have all seen. But I still think he needs to go - no-one was allowed to have drinks to thank staff for putting up with all the extra work at the time. etc etc

But please no Michael Gove, placed by Cummings

User6397254 · 12/01/2022 12:39

He should resign and they should get new PM, there is no way I am voting labour. It seems likely that I won't vote next GE

LadyOfMisrule · 12/01/2022 12:47

Prison.

whenwillthedecoratingend · 12/01/2022 12:48

I'm furious having just heard his piss poor sorry (but not sorry thought it was within guidance as garden is part of office?!!!!!!!!!.... erm... it was a BYOB party FFS) I'm pissed off with everyone who voted him into his position as leader... he hasn't done anything that wouldn't have been foreseen... he's always been a liar who spouts bullshit and does what he wants and doesn't care about anyone else... people knew this when they voted for him. I think he needs to stay PM and Kier needs to pull his finger out and tell people loudly what their manifesto is... because people will still keep voting Tory while Labour has no back bone.

TonkinLenkicks · 12/01/2022 12:49

In the stocks to be frank. Think we’re due a good public flogging.

whenwillthedecoratingend · 12/01/2022 12:49

@LadyOfMisrule if only!!

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 12:50

He is an embarrassment. He should resign.

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2022 12:54

Who's the alternative?

I don't know how I think it will end but I don't see an alternative.

Hemingwayzcatz · 12/01/2022 12:55

He should resign, he broke the law never mind the rules. He’s a criminal.

icelolly12 · 12/01/2022 12:56

Resign and for who to take over though? They're all as bad as one another.

TrashyPanda · 12/01/2022 12:57

With him in the stocks, being pelted with cowpats.

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 12:58

@Lockdownbear

Who's the alternative?

I don't know how I think it will end but I don't see an alternative.

Sunak
JaninaDuszejko · 12/01/2022 12:59

He won't be challenged yet because none of his possible successors will want to take over yet until they feel like we're out of the pandemic. If we get through the winter without lockdown or the NHS collapsing then they will be feeling more hopeful. There's still plenty time for the Tories to change leader before the next election.

shadypines · 12/01/2022 13:00

Surely he doesn't need to resign as he's not done anything wrong it seems.
So far he's made 'an error of judgement' and he regrets he 'should have done things differently'. ConfusedBUT not admitted he was wrong or he/his staff did a very bad thing. Let's face it that would entail behaving like an honest decent mature
adult...not something he's good at.
But let's not forget their efforts on the hugely successful vaccine roll out so that makes all the rest of any shit shower ok......

AnotherRandomUsernom · 12/01/2022 13:03

In answer to your question, quickly. Who would replace him though, another one of the party goers? Good luck to the person who has to put up with the flat decor though! Did we pay for that? Looks horrendous Grin

AlexaShutUp · 12/01/2022 13:03

I'm with you, OP. I want him to take a beating in a general election. I don't think the Tories will allow that to happen though.

TheWhalrus · 12/01/2022 13:03

I agree with many of the sentiments that Boris should resign (come on, who wouldn't)...although can I please re-iterate that this thread is designed to discuss how this will end. ie do we think he will resign? or will one of the other scenarios force an exit?

OP posts:
NightmareSlashDelightful · 12/01/2022 13:04

I don't really care how it ends.

I just want it to end.

shadypines · 12/01/2022 13:04

Sorry to answer your question not sure but whatever happens we will get told about the vaccine rollout ad nauseaum just as we've had off Hancock.
