If this the the place I want to spend as much time as possible, how can I make this happen

I’ve thought about having an ice cream stand, beach bar, something to do with boats
Any other ideas welcome

I'm training for an IT qualification which has lots of openings in flexible and remote consultancy and support. Huge demand, and in my experience, frequently poor performers in the skill. Earnings 45k+ easily.

I'm also planning to refurb a campervan to rent out, and occasionally work from the road. You can make around £10-15k annually from this. Possibly set up a second as a full-time rent out if it's successful.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 14:12

I wonder what country would be a good bet, with decent weather ideally year round, sandy beaches
Pretty simple life I’m after really

Thanks for the tips regarding PR, IT social media or marketing
I’m happy to learn something new and maybe I should aim higher than deckchair attendant
It’s just interesting to hear what kinda jobs work well remotely
I could do VA

Ideally I’d just live life on a non stop holiday
Grinbut this will need to be supplemented in some way

The cats where are you planning on traveling around in the campervan ? U.K. or abroad ?

Crewing yachts? (I know someone who did this and spent a fair bit of time in the Caribbean)
Sailing instructor?
Diving instructor?
Or as others have suggested look into all kinds of jobs which are in demand all around the world and specifically in places you would like to live.

Why not join online communities of digital or nomadic workers and see what kinds of places they are living in and what kind of work they do?

A lot of the UK, and later more Europe. It will depend on the profitability and frequency of the IT work.

If I make it to the super well-paid tiers, then I can work for shorter bursts. If not, I'll need to be more stably based.

However we're also planning to move within near distance of the coast, so some of the van's purpose will be to give me a gorgeous change of scenery for just an afternoon even - a kitted out micro office with whatever view I choose, and a 5g router.

You could move Cayman Islands where I am. Many of the hotels are crying out for staff, but you probably would need to be in the hospitality industry before now.
Also plenty of bars looking for staff as we begin to open borders.
I’ve lived here 14 years, it’s pretty good to wake up and roll onto the beach with a paddle board or kayak.

Depending on your role, there may also be opportunities in financial/legal roles (which I’m in), which doesn’t mean you’ll be working on the beach obviously but does mean you can go whenever you want after work is done.

I moved from the south east of England to Perth, WA. Beautiful beaches. Some are great for surfing with massive waves and others are nice and flat for swimming. Absolutely love the weather here. Best thing ever!!

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 15:19

Yika, that’s a great idea about joining some online communities
Really good

The cats I love your idea off just. Being able to go off for the afternoon and
Just work somewhere else, by changing up your environment

Stroke funny you should mention that, as I have considered going into the area of finance mainly due to seeing how much money others I know that work in that area make

How do you find the cost of living in the caymans

I think I need to find the ideal place first, then just do it and make it work

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 15:21

Coles I fancy aus for a holiday
But do you find it a bit of an isolated place to live ?

@Havilland

My local council employs a couple of oafs who patrol the main bay/beach, their only job is to fine dog owners who are not on the correct part of the beach or have not picked up their dog mess.

They walk straight past by litter and rarely have to fine anyone as dog owners here are very responsible.

They both seem to enjoy their leisurely strolls whilst being paid to do so.

Tell me you're a snobby, classist dog owner without telling me you're a snobby, classist dog owner.
Borracha · 09/01/2022 15:25

I lived in the Canaries for a bit when I was younger. I worked in a dull marketing role but has a 3 hour lunch break each day which I almost always spent on the beach.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 15:26

Canneries doenst appeal to me at all, but to be fair I’ve never been there

Why don't you use your 300k to buy a property in the UK and rent it out? If it doesn't work out you have somewhere to come back to. Then you would only need to do some extra online work for extra cash and could spend your life on the beach? You would need a work permit to actually trade or be employed on the beach in another country. Whilst you're in the country you love you might meet people who you could go into business with or something.

HolidayNanny · 09/01/2022 15:30

Holiday nanny! Grin

Honestly it's really jammy! You get paid to build sandcastles and muck about on body boards! Only peanuts mind you, but it's great fun.

Peppapigforlife · 09/01/2022 15:31

Carribbean would be good for sandy beaches. Florida is lovely and tropical but more expensive. Mexico has a lot of lovely beaches and loads of expats.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 15:34

My 300k mainly my house in the U.K.
got a bit of savings too
If I rented this house out it would rent for around 1-1.2k per month

Caribbean Florida or Mexico sound v appealing

Meowwwwwww · 09/01/2022 16:35

I’m American and I’ve lived in Florida and trust me you do not want to move there. It is lovely to visit in season but from about May to September the heat and humidity are so stifling that everyone stays inside with aircon and the beaches are empty. Florida is among the worst states for both education and healthcare and is run by a Trump minion who has closed testing centers and forbidden schools from requiring masks even as covid skyrockets. Gun violence continues to rise in Florida, probably because state law has loopholes that make it easy for almost anyone to buy a gun. Not to mention hurricanes, alligators and truly awful traffic.

But none of this matters unless you can get a visa to move there, which is unlikely unless you are sponsored by a US-based employer or an immediate family member who is an American citizen or legal permanent resident. I think there is a category for investors as well but the minimum investment is high and must create jobs for at least 10 American workers.

Strokethefurrywall · 09/01/2022 17:37

Cos of living is eye watering, no way to sugar coat it.

If you’re already in finance or law, there will be a lot of opportunities but would suggest not moving for anything less than $90k.

If you’ve got a regular income from a Uk rental property then a lower income would suffice to supplement your living costs, but it’s hard to describe exactly how much things cost without knowledge of your day to day requirements.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 18:28

My granddad was born in America so would that make it easier for me to move there ?

LovelyYellowLabrador · 09/01/2022 18:30

Stroke I think I light arrange a holiday to check it out on person as i really fancy going there, it sounds rather unique

Georgeskitchen · 09/01/2022 21:34

Don't confuse living in a glamorous tourist destination with being on permanent holiday (unless you are very rich) you will still have to work (often long hours if in hospitality) for a pittance wage. It's not as exciting as it seems!!

BrickingIt44 · 09/01/2022 21:44

Diving instructor? Detective in the Caribbean?

Chewbecca · 09/01/2022 21:57

Did you watch that TV series set in a hospital in India - The Good Karma Hospital?

What you’re saying reminds me of Neil Morissey’s role in that at the beach bar. It was filmed in Goa. He seems to have a pretty good life.
