Did anyone used to watch wrestling?

Or perhaps you still do?

I was talking with a friend about '90s nostalgia and we both loved wrestling, WWE or WWF as it was then known.

It was huge at school especially with the boys but I knew more about it than any of them. I remember, perhaps falsely, it being part of thr culture in a way. I'm sure more so in the U.S but I remember seeing wrestlers appearing in tv shows. On merchandise everywhere and then there were things like Celebrity Death Match. Some of the first movies I remember watching featured Hulk Hogan.

Was anyone else a fan?

Also remember watching it back in the 70s/80s with my granny - why were so many grans wrestling fans?? 😆. I remember the announcer saying "it turns Saturday lunch time into grapple and crunch time!"

My Nan used to love it, front row seat in the Brighton Dome back in the day with handbag at the ready 😁 - she loved big Daddy and Cat Weasel

@suckingonchillidogs - cos it was justified ogling of the hot young bods (okay, not many) plus they could vent the frustrations about their husbands on the baddies Grin

Fun fact for older readers, Big Daddy's real name was Shirley Crabtree, after his dad.

You'd have to become a wrestler or boxer with a name like that.

Fun Fact - Giant Haystacks chucked my (5ft 5 on a good day) dad across the road back in t'day when dad said he was a big tool - or words to that effect. They lived in the same area growing up. grin*

That's a great fun fact! but I'm sure your Father didn't need to be told twice.

*We were at a holiday camp when DS was about 5, and one night they had wrestling on - amateur lads (very good) doing a mix of Big Daddy & WWE style. We told DS we had to boo the baddies. He was really into it and got so enthused he shouted at the main baddy

BOOO!! YOU STINK OF ONIONS

That is hilarious and adorable. The poor bad guy is probably still in therapy though. Grin

Which was the worse insult he could think of. The baddy took it in good part, pretending to cry and was defeated by the 'goodie' 😄

Me, I'm really excited for it.

Wrestlemania is my favourite event.

Like many others in our area, I sat and watched this with my granda.

And if it was a flush month, we got fizzy juice from the juice lorry and a lucky bag.

And chips on Friday with crackerjack and Monkey.

The happiest of times.

What have you thought of it so far? Becky and Bianca were incredible!

My friend loves it, he sent me a clip of the double 619 earlier. I had no idea Rey Mysterio was still in it!
