Does anyone have a coverless duvet?

I've seen these online and I can't put my finger on why, but they appeal to me. I feel like they would reduce the amount of 'stuff' in the house and also the amount of washing. Although neither of those things make sense as you'd need one plus a spare per person, and you still need to wash it...it just seems less faffy somehow.

Any experience?

I have the solution to less sheets washing. Do it every 4-5 weeks instead of weekly. Nothing bad happens, I promise

No, just the odd skin infection 😕

Rainbowshit · 21/01/2023 23:16

This is just going backwards surely?!

Far easier to be able to take off a cover and wash than wash the entire duvet every week, no?

I've got two Night Owl coverless duvets. I love them.

We’ve got one night owl single for DC’s bed. It’s fantastic, really comfy, really warm, washes and dries like a dream. Child doesn’t get it tangled (all the wriggling means a normal duvet gets tangled up inside the cover). Very helpful for kids being sick/wetting the bed as the whole thing washes and dries quickly. I’m working on DH to swap all our bedding for them.

Night owl convert here - got them on all beds and they're brilliant. Wash in normal machine, they dry within a couple of hours and no wrestling with a duvet cover.
No brainer for me.

I just have them for the kids beds (night owl), both prone to accidents still and they save me a lot of faff, dry super quick on no covers/buttons is a godsend!

Convert here too. But then I’ve got arthritic fingers so duvet changing is tricky. We use m and s double 4.5 tog one from March till October. Wash it fortnightly and it dries in a day and back on the bed for nighttime.
Fits in machine easily with the bottom sheet and pillowcases so not using extra energy etc.
only reason we dont have a winter weight one is that I’m not sure it would fit in the machine. So only changing duvet covers November to February.
Back in the day before they were invented, I machined a cover onto my cot quilts ( pre sleeping bag days in the 80’s) and puff TV the lot in the machine.
Actually I think I may have invented coverless quilts in 1982!

In the us they are called Comforters and are the norm for bedding. You use with a flat sheet under and wash that most often.

Yes this is what is on our bed when we are visiting friends in North America. Was always wanting to bring one home.
I have one night owl one and one from M&S. Prefer the Night Owl. The M&S one is a bit slippery.
They come with a bag to store them in and take up a lot less space than a normal duvet. I use a flat sheet underneath.

StillMedusa · 21/01/2023 23:58

I bought my DD1 a king sized Night owl as a 'your bastard ex left but at least you don't have to fight with the duvet cover on your own' gift and she loves it.
Planning to get some for my house if I can ever bear to put away my fleece bedding Grin

Clymene · 21/01/2023 23:58

We have night owls. You don't put a sheet under them, you just wash and tumble dry them. They're not comforters.
