It's a bit of a taat tbh but all the same.. in a kinda Buddhist way.. what makes you happy about your space.
Before I start let me say we are all different ! Some townies some rurilites.. no one right or wrong just want to have a happy non bitchy thread appreciating what we have ...

I Love my Rural home. I am not privileged. I rent long term from lovely lovely people... I pay £995 (half my salary for the privilege) but it is really important to me to wake up every morning to THAT view... where I live makes the difference to my life.. I would love to see other peoples special spaces ...

The beautiful view of the stars at night, no light pollution.

bicyclesaredeathtraps · 07/01/2022 21:19

I don't love the house I live in (shared rented flat), but I do appreciate that everything is on the same level (mobility issues). I do really like the town I'm currently living in though. Shops, library, swimming pool, doctors, several nice parks all within walking distance, ten minutes on the bus to a historic and pretty city centre. And good views of the mountains (although that's really more of a con than a pro sometimes because I get frustrated not being able to go up them)

RunningInTheWind · 07/01/2022 21:23

I live in a very isolated and rural place and can drive 50 miles without seeing another car. I see the sea from the windows and it’s always quiet. The views take my breath away.

lightand · 07/01/2022 21:26

Not quite the same as @RunningInTheWind, but not that far off.
I like silence and no lights when I sleep.
The lack of any hospital for many miles may become more of a concern as I age, but for now, no I dont want to move.
My DH did look into moving a bit recently, but has seen the error of his ways! Every time he compared something to here, here won.

@ItsFuckingJuneDadQuickHide
You're not in Pembrokeshire, by any chance? 🤔

I love, love, love where I live. Flat in the middle of Manhattan, so everything is on my doorstep. It's carved out of an old tenement, so we still have loads of original features like exposed brick and fireplaces. I don't think I can live anywhere else now.

Wailywailywaily · 07/01/2022 21:34

For the first time I am in a brand new build home and I will never have an old house again! I love this home and the view I have. I am already planning a self build in a few years time when I will move so that I don’t have to live in an old house.

Vampirethriller · 07/01/2022 21:38

I love my little 60s council flat, it's warm and cosy and it's got everything I need. My neighbours are lovely. The estate used to be notorious but now it's quiet and everyone is friendly, there's a beautiful park seconds away and my allotment is a two minute walk. It's perfect.

Pallisers · 07/01/2022 21:41

I love where I live because we are in an urban area that is stones throw/walking distance to shops/library/restaurants/parks/lake/woods and steps to a bus or train to the city centre. Because we renovated our house a few years ago and I love every single thing about it now. And on top of that we have the best neighbours in the world.

No, I'm in th South @Peasweet, the fields will only last so long as they are building on EVERYTHING including the beach-actually on the beach! Hmm

hesbeen2021 · 08/01/2022 08:39

Having recently moved back to the city from being rural I love the constant sounds, the people walking by chatting and laughing, the buses and cars, even the sirens.
I love that I can walk to anything, work, beautiful parks, restaurants
I love that I feel anonymous and private as it's such a student / transient area yet have lovely neighbours too. ( Huge difference from rural life when a neighbour would comment on what time I left or arrived home from work!)
It feels so alive
I love that I finally have original Georgian windows
I love that the house is still a doer upper but I feel no need to rush anything

EventOfTheSeason · 08/01/2022 08:48

I love looking out the window and seeing the forest at the back of the garden. And the sound of the wind in the trees on a windy day is lovely.

ilovebagpuss · 08/01/2022 08:49

I love the location of my quiet touristy small town that feels stuck in the 50’s.
Walks and views from the door and good schools. So very quiet and so much space. The house is on an old estate where the roads are wide and they built with massive front gardens and reasonable back. It’s just so spaced out it’s a total luxury who needs massive front gardens!
South facing at the back so a lovely sun trap.
The house isn’t my dream house at all but it’s the location and we have made it ours. It has fantastic views over the hills.
It’s also big inside as when they built 3 bedrooms meant 3 doubles with a wide hall.

I love where I live because…

We live in very close proximity to a beautiful range of hills (the Pentlands). As a trail runner, off road cyclist and hill walker this is ideal.

Our house borders an entrance into a gorgeous country estate for stunning woodland walks and runs with magnificent views of said hills.

My house is quirky and cute. We have a lovely wild garden.

There is a wholefoods shop five minutes walk away for shopping, mad chat and excellent coffee and scones.

We are a stone’s throw from Edinburgh, so opportunities, entertainment and culture abound.

All of this makes it sound like I like in a well to do wee village. I don’t, it’s a fairly charmless little town. We live in an attractive part of it, (not posh, old) and bought the house deliberately owing to the above. If you’re a scenery junkie but you’ve got to live in a shitty little town in Midlothian for work and family, this is the best one.
I’ve never regretted moving here.

anungratefulwretch · 08/01/2022 09:02

I love where I live because...it's the first house I've ever owned (after decades of renting and paying off someone else's mortgage). We're slowly doing it up to our tastes and a lovely house is emerging from underneath the previous owners' questionable choices!

It's a few mins walk from the sea and I can't believe I get to go to the beach every day. The town itself is one that makes MNers clutch their handbags in horror, but to me it's vibrant, friendly and beautiful (well parts of it are a bit grim but you take the rough with the smooth) with loads of lovely little shops, cafes, galleries, walks and places to just sit and stare at the waves. I feel so lucky to be here and have become a tiresome promoter of the town to all my friends Grin

After years of living and working in a city, being able to see a huge beautiful clear sky every day is a pleasure and a privilege. And then to come back to my own home with, finally, my own stuff in it...just heaven.

snowone · 08/01/2022 09:09

Love our house, we are finally in the right one for us after 3 moves in 8 years 🙈

Cul-de-sac, walking distance to school, village location 10 minutes out of town and really close by to some of the most beautiful countryside.

Plus it's a big doer-upper and we are finally able to design our house exactly as we want it.

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2022 09:11

It’s a really nice community within London

West facing garden

Hardy house that can take three dc

Darbs76 · 08/01/2022 09:18

I love it where I live because I’m close to London, love musical theatre & plays plus just love going into London, as does my daughter so we do that a lot. I grew up in North Wales and I go back a lot, but it’s pretty boring there. Where I live is classic suburbia, but good access to open spaces but 30 mins and I’m in the city.

Lanique · 08/01/2022 09:19

I'm getting location envy from this thread, and I'm dying know where some of you live Smile

I love where I live because it's a large-ish village with a thriving community, year-round events that bring people in from all over the country, it's surrounded by beautiful countryside and it retains a feel of quintessential English rural charm. The people are really friendly and while mostly affluent (house prices are bonkers here) there are people from all walks of life. We have good pubs and independent shops on our doorstep, but we're not far from several vibrant towns and cities, and the coast.

Lifeisnteasy · 08/01/2022 09:22

Close to the beach, a beautiful big park, a reasonable town centre, some family & 20 minute drive from a small city. Very lucky.

Alsonification · 08/01/2022 09:22

I love where I live. My house is big enough to run my childminding business from & myself and my children each have our own rooms, but small enough to be very easy for me to manage. It’s very low maintenance and as it’s terraced, very cheap to heat. My neighbours are quiet & don’t bother me too much but would help in an emergency.
I have a car but rarely use it locally. I can walk to Tesco in 5 mins & the train station and main town is a 10 mins walk away. My parents are also a 10 mins walk away. I have a lovely green out front & love the sound of kids playing on it. My back garden is small but perfect. And I love the security of living in an estate.

caringcarer · 08/01/2022 09:49

I love we live in large village with lovely lake walk for dogs, flip out, village hall for hiring, supermarket and several smaller shops and hairdressers, yet only 3 miles into large town with good shopping, a castle, parks with tennis, crazy golf, BMX pipes, bowling, multiplex cinema, Snowdome for skiing, snowboarding, sledging, ice skating and snow play. Loads of sports centres cricket club, football club and cafes and restaurants. Lots to do especially for children and teens. Regular buses in and out. Lots of green areas and canal for kayaking on. Good schools too and only 20 mins into Birmingham.

halfthesun · 08/01/2022 09:58

Short walk to the beach ... short run to the South Downs and ten minute bike ride to work ... do like to be active and able to avoid driving and public transport.

wineandchocolateforthewin · 08/01/2022 10:02

I love the size of my house, having plenty of space, the garden that's not overlooked, the proximity to the woods/village centre/park/school and that we're near so many friends.
We've got work to do on the garden to make it prettier and an overhaul of the front garden to make it a usable space, but we'll get there.

Westfacing · 08/01/2022 10:09

I love where I live - inner London next to the Thames. Everything I need is within walking distance and I make the most of city life.

My flat does need some updating though which I can't afford, but one can't have everything!
