Not fishing for compliments as I know I am a beginner, it's just something I do for fun here and there.
Would love to hear any constructive feedback.
Bit nervous I'll be told it's crap, I'll try to have a thick skin!

It's Adam Ant, Boy George and Pennywise from IT, in case they're completely unrecognisable!

You've definitely got some talent there to build on. Have a little study of faces and where features sit (for example the tops of ears are usually lined up with eyes).

KimMumsnet · 07/01/2022 10:15

Hi, OP. We're moving your thread to Chat now.

I’m no art critic but I really like the way you’ve portrayed pennywise. Boy George is also pretty good but I wouldn’t have recognised Adam Ant sorry.

BookBanter · 07/01/2022 10:22

Wow- your Pennywise is brilliant! I love that style and I think that's where your talent stands out here. I'd say that if that's the type of sketching you enjoy, keep going with that one and you could create some really amazing pieces.

Handsnotwands · 07/01/2022 10:45

There’s a really good group on FB, Art Enthusiasts in London (you don’t need to be in London) they do online / recorded classes which are excellent in developing styles and techniques.

crimsonlake · 07/01/2022 10:52

It is great that you are being creative and that you enjoy it.
I suggest you do some research on the Basic Elements of Art, line, tone, shape etc. Get yourself a sketch book with decent quality paper, some decent pencils and practise the basics. Then revisit the subject matter which interests you, you should see a big improvement. Keep going.

BleuJay · 07/01/2022 10:56

I think it’s harder to make drawings of what should be recognised subjects as we all know what that person looks like so any slight imperfect detail in your drawing is going to stand out.

I would hone your skills by drawing fantasy images of people or less recognised subjects and experiment with shading, light and dark and perspective.

Wow my first deleted post!

I don’t really know what the point is of asking opinions on something if the opinions you don’t like get deleted.

There were no personal attacks or any broken rules in what I posted and I have no idea why it was deleted.

I genuinely did not think the OP had just done the drawings.

Maybe instead of AIBU (in which this was originally posted) MN could have a “yes, you are wonderful” section, where people could post things knowing that everyone would say they were great and no honest opinions are allowed.

@DoNotGetADog

If you aren't a dick to people for no reason, your posts won't get deleted.

HTH.

sleepymum50 · 07/01/2022 12:17

Have you heard of Deviantart? I think it’s exactly what you are looking for.

My daughter used it when she was younger and learning to draw and do digital art. It’s full of like minded people, who post and like each other’s art. I’m pretty sure she found the people on it warm and full of passion.

I like the second two pictures the most. I sure you you will find someone who is at the same stage as you on Deviantart. Ps there’s nothing deviant about it.

Good for you. Hope you have lots of fun with your art.

DrManhattan · 07/01/2022 13:07

@DoNotGetADog
I think I read your post and you said it wasn't that good. I don't know why that would get deleted. This is now probably going to get deleted. The pics aren't brilliant and the op must know this from their opening post

Quackpot · 07/01/2022 13:17

I like your cartoon style pics. Pop art might be a good direction to explore
