Not fishing for compliments as I know I am a beginner, it's just something I do for fun here and there.
Would love to hear any constructive feedback.
Bit nervous I'll be told it's crap, I'll try to have a thick skin!

It's Adam Ant, Boy George and Pennywise from IT, in case they're completely unrecognisable!

DramaAlpaca

I've no idea who Pennywise is. I recognised Adam Ant and Boy George immediately, you have the beginnings of a likeness, but the perspectives are way off“

Pennywise is a very chilling clown from the Stephen King story, It.
Was made into a film and OP’s drawing is a good likeness of the character.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/01/2022 23:16

When you're the artist everyone's a critic Grin

Don't worry about anyone elses in put, do it and keep doing it if it makes you happy.

I would suggest an art class or online tutorials, you learn so many techniques that way.

I recognised who they were immediatelySmile

Cheeringmeup · 06/01/2022 23:21

I think that you show real potential. The Adam Ant one is not so great, shading should indicate a change of shape\light\shadow and it doesn't here, but that will come with practice and careful observation. I don't mind the Pennywise one, but it's a little cartoonish. However, I really like your Boy George - contrary to PP, I think the proportions aren't too far off and the "less is more" approach really works. I think you've handled the eyes with real sensitivity and delicacy and they have real "life".
Please keep drawing, experiment with different materials and media and most of all really look at your subject before you make a mark.
Enjoy your art, that's what is most important - keep it up 😁

babbi · 06/01/2022 23:22

I recognised who they were immediately.. so very well done 👏
I’m useless at art so am very impressed with these and for you asking for feedback.
Good luck with this .practise will be fun for you ... come back again and show us more !!

Life's short @DoNotGetADog, don't be a dick. Maybe that could be a better username for you.

I love the Adam Ant! Recognised him immediately!

Ieattoomuchsugar · 07/01/2022 06:56

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I can confirm I'm not from the 80s as PP suggested!
Will keep working on proportions and experimenting with different styles.

These are some others I did

They look like you have carefully copied photos. You have done it well. But you should try to find your own artistic style. Do it your way and not worry about getting it to look perfect. I mean that nicely. I am a crafter not an artist. I can easily adapt someone else's design. But would struggle to create a design of my own. I have known real arty people in my life. People that can create some thing out of nothing. They spend less time worrying about how it looks to others, or if it is perfect. But worry about does if feel right to them. If you understand what I mean by that.

EishetChayil · 07/01/2022 07:50

They're copies of other stuff. Art is about creativity, and self-expression. Try to move away from just copying others' work.

KiloWhat · 07/01/2022 07:53

Looks like you're copying other stuff. I like the 2nd picture you posted.

XelaM · 07/01/2022 07:58

Pennywise is good. The rest not. Sorry. Are you taking classes? I used to take serious art classes as a child and it really made a huge difference

XelaM · 07/01/2022 08:00

I agree with @DoNotGetADog

Tal45 · 07/01/2022 08:21

Portraits are really, really hard OP! I think using people who have very distinguishable looks/hair/make up has helped you a lot here. Personally based on these pics I'd steer clear of realistic celeb portraits and consider doing some more like the pennywise one which is by far your best - other horror type stuff perhaps as you have really caught the nasty/evil feeling.

The Joker would be my suggestion for your next pic. Take your time over it though, don't expect to do it all in one sitting or to knock it out in 5 minutes flat. Take your time getting the proportions right. Most importantly just have fun with it.

DrManhattan · 07/01/2022 08:25

Testing out that thick skin?

YourenutsmiLord · 07/01/2022 08:38

I'm an 'artist' but new to it. What I should be doing is sketching daily to practise my drawing skills. Doing lots of painting (my thing) to slowly improve. Niether of which I do as I am not committed enough.
People can produce computer pics these days. They can use a light box for tracing things. And could produce pics like yours easily.
Perhaps have a target to aim for. Comic strips? There are loads of courses online. Your drawings are good, if you enjoy it keep going.

Mabelface · 07/01/2022 08:46

You've definitely got the basics there. Agree to work on proportion. A good method for copying a picture is the grid method - draw a grid on the pic you're copying and draw the same on a fresh piece of paper. That way, you're drawing a small bit at a time. Draw every day and you'll soon have an eye for proportion and won't always need the grid. This painting was done using the grid.

Well, they look half finished and a bit half arsed, like it didn't take very long. But - could be really good with more time & finishing!

This painting is so lovely!

Likenesses are difficult to capture. I can get these easily with animals, but people are a different proposition entirely.

I have a sketchbook to practice in, and find guidebooks on drawing helpful. Another tricky one is hair: the way it naturally moves and flows. Again, I had a book that had exercises in to help with that. Your eyes are pretty good!

The important thing is: keep drawing. (this is where I fall down, owing to the time factor). The more you do, the better you'll get.

Thanks for sharing!

Hoppinggreen · 07/01/2022 09:58

Well you can draw better than me but I have to say that I’m sorry I don’t think they are great.
However, if you enjoy doing it keep going

Mabelface · 07/01/2022 10:07

@youvegottenminuteslynn Thank you! I'm perfecting my craft currently. I've come back to drawing and painting after a very long hiatus and now I'm doing it, I can't understand why I stopped! It's so relaxing.
