I've booked 2 days in Weston super mare for my partners birthday in feb as a surprise, in a little cottage with a hot tub. Can anyone help with activities/things to do/ places to go/ restaurants etc? Im from Cornwall. We love adventure and having fun, like two big kids! Into our food but quite basic with our food taste haha!

Lots of walks in the mendips or climbs crooks peak?

Big kids - the pier sounds perfect 😄

BoodleBug51 · 06/01/2022 20:13

Hmm it's not the nicest town. Very run down, poor and scruffy.

I'd aim to do things around it..........

Cheddar Gorge? Mendips?

malificent7 · 06/01/2022 20:16

I like Weston...i don't live far away. It is a bit run down but the kids will love it....think old school seaside.
We love Loco Mexicano restaraunt a d it's great for kids...party atmosphere and the owner is lovely.

LakieLady · 06/01/2022 20:16

A friend moved there a few years ago. He calls it Weston-Super-Mud.
He says it's like the rougher parts of Croydon, where he used to live, but without the stabbings.

malificent7 · 06/01/2022 20:18

Sorry...just saw no kids. I would go to uphill for a walk,Clevedon, Cheddar Gorge.

Yiayoula · 06/01/2022 20:22

If you like Chinese food, and don’t mind a half-hour drive , Junior Poon’s in Clevedon is good.

Mum090521 · 06/01/2022 20:23

The pier can be fun. We used to walk on the cliffs at Sand Bay (as you face the sea on the right hand side).

KiloWhat · 06/01/2022 20:24

Cheddar George
Portishead Lido
Basically stuff away from W-S-M

Elphame · 06/01/2022 20:30

We call it Weston Super Mud too!

Bristol is a short drive away so I would head there personally. Otherwise there are some nice restaurants in Portishead.

Brean Down is nice for a walk once you get past the endless fields of static caravans- go right to the end to the abandoned sea fort.

teethingproblems · 06/01/2022 20:31

For those who don't recommend it, can anyone recommend somewhere more ideal? Has to be between Cornwall and North wakes, anywhere along that route?

Cardiff?

esloquehay · 06/01/2022 20:33

I lived there for 8 years and it really is a sad, depressing place. I really wouldn't recommend it for a weekend, especially in the winter.

BirdyBee · 06/01/2022 20:33

There's a great little ice cream place called i think its called pjs, I love weston super mare have booked 2 days there in May xx

esloquehay · 06/01/2022 20:35

I now live in Portishead, which is closer to Bristol. I'd recommend staying there OR Clevedon if you want to stay in a town.

Tal45 · 06/01/2022 20:39

Pirate Adventure crazy golf - we always find a bit of crazy golf on these sort of holidays is a laugh whatever your age.

BoodleBug51 · 06/01/2022 20:40

Bovey Castle is gorgeous on Dartmoor, and lots in the area
Bath is a lovely town to visit, and Bradford on Avon nearby.
Cirencester
Broadway
Malvern

XingMing · 06/01/2022 20:45

Bath or Bristol, Wells is charming.

boxcar · 06/01/2022 20:46

I would thoroughly enjoy a day out in Weston. If you’re away for 2 days & have already booked, don’t worry: both evenings will no doubt be great & I’d spend one day there & then another in one of the numerous good suggestions already named.

Theimpossiblegirl · 06/01/2022 20:51

Weston isn't that bad. The beach isn't the best but there are lots of nice places to eat and drink on the front.
Where is your cottage and what do you like doing?
I live between Weston and Cheddar.

Pawprintpaper · 06/01/2022 20:51

Cheddar gorge and Brean sands are nice for a walk. Clevedon is a more old fashioned seaside town with a less amusementsy pier.

Bristol/Bath are good for shopping/culture.
Wells is nice too (and has outlet shopping)
I think there’s a dry ski slope fairly close to Weston and Bristol zoo has located to a more extensive location which is supposed to be good.

Weston is a bit depressing, Banksy did his dismal land thing there (but that’s not there any more) The beach is indeed just mud.

Rabblesthecat · 06/01/2022 20:52

I live just down from there……

Reminds me of the line from the Chris de Burch song…….

The cafes are all deserted, the streets are wet again
There's nothing quite like an out of season holiday town in the rain
When the tourists go and the cold winds blow

KatieB55 · 06/01/2022 20:52

Lots of lovely places in North Devon, Appledore or Braunton maybe.

Xmasgetaway · 06/01/2022 20:55

The beach will be freezing, the wind is like a knife off that beach and the tide is generally so far out you can’t see the water, but if you like walking, then you can go for miles along the beach and Brean Down is beautiful.

Food wise, my dad loves the 40’s cafe there - they serve deep fried spam!

Craftycorvid · 06/01/2022 20:58

Haven’t been to Weston in many years but it was always the ‘seaside’ trip for kids from Gloucestershire/Bristol. Miles and miles of mud in place of a beach and very run down. I’d second lots of suggestions so far. North Devon lovely. You can get to Lundy island from Ilfracombe. Barnstaple and Bideford are lovely, too.
