DD12 on her first period. We were prepared but we're using Always Platinum with wings and god love.her they are not doing the trick. It's not that her flow is too heavy, it's just missing the pad altogether, up the back,.out the side etc.

Sorry if that's TMI.

Any suggestions/ products/brands/ tips most welcome. She doesn't want to use tampons yet.

Thank you x

Period pants are a game changer, like a PP I wish they'd been around when I was a young teen. ModiBodi do a teen range and they have a bundle offer where you can get 7 pairs and a waterproof bag for carrying them around. One pair on before school lasts right through to hometime with no leaks and no smells although DD does carry a spare pair in case she needs them.

What do tweens use when swimming though?

Modibodi do a swimwear range suitable up to moderate flow.

Mapletreelane · 06/01/2022 19:34

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Going to order some modibodi pants 😊. Oh the joys of being an adolescent girl! Xx

@ShowOfHands - but you can change sanitary towels when they start to smell

Mykittensmittens · 06/01/2022 22:00

Modibodi red for my 13yo d.

One month I emptied her laundry and it stank to high heaven, but it turned out it was the last two days so she just wasn’t changing often enough and had basically festered in them. The pants are good, but they do need regular changing.

And i have found washing with dettol laundry cleanser got rid anyway. You use in the fabric softener drawer which is ideal as you don’t use softener anyway.

giftswap2021 · 06/01/2022 22:10

Not sure if this will help, but I have a very heavy flow and I use the night time pads, or the really long ones.
I put them in and then (can't believe I'm about to write this!) I pinch the end of the pad nearest the back and put it up between my bum cheeks🙈🙈🙈 and this seems to stop movements and stops any leaking. It was the only thing that worked for me.

Greenmarmalade · 06/01/2022 22:13

My teenagers have modibodi red (for teenagers) and pads. They sometimes sleep on a towel too, so they don’t have to keep changing sheets.

MerylSqueak · 06/01/2022 22:20

DD started at 10 and used the lilets teen pads. They're narrower. Maybe the pad she's using is too wide so it's bowing in the middle?

CrabbyCat · 06/01/2022 22:23

@MissMaple82 I have heavy periods, but don't find period pants smell and I wear them for 12 hours at a time. I think it's because the blood is all adsorbed into the lining, rather than sitting on the surface as it ends up doing with disposable pads. That means it doesn't get exposed to air in the same way, and doesn't go brown / smelly anything like as quickly.

I have the Primark period pants, the absorbent lining only goes half way up to the waist band so definitely not ones to use at night time unless very light flow.

ElinorOliphant · 06/01/2022 22:46

@AiryFairy1 my dd has a swimming costume from
Modibodi. I got it in the sale (she swims 3 times a week and hasn’t mastered tampons yet).
It’s the nicest cossie I’ve ever seen, really lovely fabric.

AiryFairy1 · 07/01/2022 06:23

@NavigatingAdolescence and @ElinorOliphant thanks for the modibodi swimming costume recommended - I see they have a great sale on, atm!

FrequentFlyer96 · 07/01/2022 07:42

Modibodi pants are brilliant!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 07/01/2022 07:44

@Seeline

If she is a small size, Lillets do a range for teens. Day and night time pads and tampons.
I got those for my now 12 year old, she started periods at 11. They were not good for her at all. Way too small for her flow and she was having to change her pad every hour.
Fabulator · 07/01/2022 07:54

@NavigatingAdolescence

My DD started at 10.5. She’s used cheeky wipes boyshort pants and reusable pads since with no issues. She puts a pad in them in the morning which she takes out at lunchtime leaving the period pants for the rest of the day. They’re absolutely brilliant and she finds it much easier than using something that needs to be binned.
Could I please ask of the sizing of these? Dd12 is a small for her age but these look perfect, where do we start with the sizing?
reluctantbrit · 07/01/2022 08:00

The pads maybe too big for her knickers. I. think DD only moved away from teen ones when she turned 14.

She started with Lillet's(?) teen range but moved to period pants 3 months later. She wears. the heavy flow ones for a whole school day and never smells.

I also moved to them 18 months ago and wished I did it a lot earlier. We both wear Modibodi.

A friend who is a club swimmer has the modibodi swimsuit and it works wonder. DD is ok with a tampon if it is the odd day. swimming. but I think we get this year as well, she. finally. stopped growing so. much.

NavigatingAdolescence · 07/01/2022 08:01

DD wears the 8. She’s 150cm tall and in age now at 11) 12-13 clothes (doesn’t like things to be tight and is tall). They are quite tight around the legs compared to her normal boy shorts, and it also leaves room for the pad. They aren’t baggy on her either. They’re really cute.

NavigatingAdolescence · 07/01/2022 08:02

Sorry, should be (now at 11)

Fabulator · 07/01/2022 08:03

Could someone link to the primary period pants? I cannot find them via Google or the P website.

Fabulator · 07/01/2022 08:03

*Primark Blush

GoodnightGrandma · 07/01/2022 08:05

LilLets do teen sized pads, with and without wings.
She might need to wear two pads from the front to back if she leaking back/front.

Think you have to go into the shop for them, you can't buy them online. I bought the Primark pants for DD12 but she's still not started yet so no idea how well they work. They'll be a good back up at the very least.

DD15 likes the reusable pads; she has normal and heavy flow ones.

Saisong · 07/01/2022 08:37

I can recommend Floweret period pants (they do pads and cups too). Very reasonably priced, plus they often do deals or codes so I've mostly bought half price. DD loves them because they are comfortable, roomy (shes 14 and uses XS) and the absorbent section goes all the way up to the back waistband - which means less worries at night. She starts of with a pad (or tampon now she had mastered them) but the pants just give that extra reassurance, especially at school.

We've not had a problem with smell - she rinses them in cold water and puts in our old lidded nappy bucket and I drop them into the next appropriate wash.

SavoyCabbage · 07/01/2022 09:00

Primark don't have online shopping.

My two teenagers have the modibodi red pants. I got the seven pack set using the 10% off first time discount. My 18 year old who is a size eight in clothes has the largest teenage size which I think is 14-16 (years) and the 15 year old has the second smallest size. They are quite big pants.

bobkate · 07/01/2022 11:35

Totally recommend period pants. My dd started with pads and it was bloody awful. She walked awkwardly, lots of clenching/waddling type movement if that makes sense. Brought a couple of pairs initially of the primark pants and what a game changer. She is so much more comfortable, we keep a bucket of water ( must be cold ) in the bath where she drops them in. I let them soak overnight and then stick in the wash as normal. We now have about 7 pairs and that seems to be enough to see her through. She generally wears one pair during the day and one pair overnight.

Suzi888 · 07/01/2022 11:41

She sounds like she needs bigger pants when on her period?
Nighttime pads with wings?
