If you have bad eyesight do you take your glasses with you when wearing contacts?

I have very bad eyesight (-11) both eyes and always wear contacts when I leave the house. I also always carry my glasses with me whenever I go out in case I need to take a lens out for some reason. I usually wear hard lenses, which are more susceptible to grit etc if it's windy.
DH gets really annoyed because it means I always need to take a bag for activities where he would just take stuff in his pockets. I'm terrified of being stranded somewhere because I can't see. Wouldn't be able to drive home or even cross a road safely. Am I the only person who does this? Or is it something everyone with bad eyesight does?

@lostmymarblesbutfoundthewine

I have started doing this. I'm -- 13 and have developed dry eye. I still live in my contacts as I'm conscious of the thickness of my glasses.(they are thinned as far as they can go) I have worn glasses about 35 years. I also stress that if I was in hospital in a coma then my lenses will mould into my eyes (absolutely no reason for me to be poorly , I also worry about my beard growing 🤣) Unless you have a subscription so strong you can't alway appreciate how hard and quite stressful it can be if you have a.problem with your lens when out.
I'm the same about being rushed in to hospital unconscious- the good thing is the Drs would check your eyes , hopefully someone would take the lenses out , but then I wouldn't be able to see when I woke up 🙄

Having a prescription worse than -10 (even in just one eye) entitles you to free eye tests and discount on spectacles. It's as much a disability as deafness

Is this in the UK? I’d love to have that where I live - if anything, tests and lenses / glasses get more expensive the higher your prescription here!

Yes - he could carry them in his pocket!

It is in the UK. It doesn't cover the full cost of spectacles if you go beyond the basic NHS issue ones, but let's you put the amount towards what you need.

I forget how much the voucher is but I think around £15 or so. Still every little helps 😊

-6.25. Take a spare lens everywhere but never glasses. Can't see a thing close up with my lenses in, so already carry reading glasses everywhere.

It does give you a free eye test if you are over + or - 10. You also get a voucher towards glasses which has the value of about £20.

When I was at high school, my glasses broke (I am now -10, wouldn't have been quite that bad then but bad enough as my eyes haven't really changed much since adulthood). The teacher said I could go to the opticians to get them fixed. I asked if my friend could come with me and the teacher was bemused and said no initially until I explained that I actually couldn't see to get there. Good job she allowed me to as I did start to step out in front of a car turning into a car park entrance and my friend had to pull me back.

I usually take my glasses if I'm going somewhere that I would struggle to get home from.

I take a massive bag with me everywhere. DH loves it as he puts car keys etc in it.

I’m -8 and I take both my glasses and spare lenses. Losing a lens happens quite often to me and sometimes I find it hard to get a new lens in. Happened to me at the beach in the summer and it was quite disorienting until I found some toilets to sort myself out.

I’m -11 and -10 and I do this or take spare disposable lenses with me - there’s no way I’d be able to continue with a day out or drive without a back up but rare I need them!
