Black current juice. Apparently there is a fungus that lives on black currents that would be bad for the economy, so it’s banned.

You can buy a gun, but not black current juice Confused

Or kinder eggs either btw

Yep, those deadly blackcurrants need to be kept out of the US. Give me a nice safe gun any day Grin

Lucked · 31/12/2021 16:36

Maybe that’s why they drink all that grape flavoured stuff. I new about Kinder eggs because they are not allowed to put non consumable items within food. Also no unpasteurised cheese I believe.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2021 16:36

Haggis is banned too btw Wink

Very sensible! A sheep's stomach, stuffed with bits of lung and other revolting offal and a bunch of pepper? Bleugh!!!

Have you ever tried it? It's delicious!

PlantyPotts · 31/12/2021 16:42

God I love haggis 🤤

It helps us all parts of the animal and it's yummy. But you don't like the sound of it so are happy to ban it 🙄

PlantyPotts · 31/12/2021 16:43

*use

Hedonism · 31/12/2021 16:43

Also it's illegal to keep pet gerbils in some states.

Shedmistress · 31/12/2021 16:45

They were banned because they are a carried for a rust that kills pine, which during the mass building of the 20th Century would indeed have been drastic to the house building industry. Bear in mind many houses are build of wood in the USA.

But they unbanned it a fair few years ago its just people don't really know of its existence. In the gardening world it isn't a common plant to grow and many specialists grow it as a rare species.

RaskolnikovsIgloo · 31/12/2021 16:45

Not edible, but I only recently found out that having a hamster is illegal in Australia. Not guinea pigs or rabbits or mice, just hamsters. NZ and Hawaii too.

Soubriquet · 31/12/2021 16:46

I had a quick google and America are right in some of the items they banned such as endangered animals but still. Kinder eggs and black current juice is just mad

They also don’t allow the sale of a absinthe.

That's because they're desert animals and Australia has had (still has) terrible problems with introduced species.

Oddly, you can still buy books on keeping hamsters as pets there 🧐

Well having rabbits and mice worked out well for Australia so I can understand why.
VioletLemon · 31/12/2021 16:52

What do you think is in sausages?!!
The ingredients in haggis are healthy, labelled and sustainable! I absolutely love it but appreciate its not for everyone. I wouldn't touch supermarket chicken or sausages, seriously gross.

onlychildhamster · 31/12/2021 16:54

Pet hamster are banned in Hawaii. Also they even ban the import of captive bred African rodents like fat tailed gerbils from European countries because they fear monkey pox! Fat tailed gerbils are much more common in countries like the Netherlands (and gaining popularity in the UK, am looking to get one after my hamster passes on) and are an alternative to the regular Mongolian gerbils but they can't be imported to the USA either!

x2boys · 31/12/2021 16:54

Were kinder eggs not banned because of the small toys and risk of children choking?

eagerlywaitingfor · 31/12/2021 16:57

I hate to break it to you OP, but they do grow blackcurrants in the Pacific northwest of the States - Dniece lives there (she got a taste for Ribena when she lived in the UK for a while) and she told me.

Clovacloud · 31/12/2021 16:57

It’s illegal to own more than 6 dildos or vibrators in Texas. My mate who lives there, drives round with a gun in her glove compartment and that’s fine Hmm

Jabbawasarollingstone · 31/12/2021 16:59

Recently went to Scotland from Southern England. Tried haggus at two differdnt places just to be sure...and decided I didn't like it.

Lorne (square) sausage, however, is the food of the gods.
