I am melting. Melting.

I keep taking out the recycling to get a breath of air

My parents house is like this. We have to keep finding reasons to go outside. I can't stay there overnight any more because I just end up feeling really sick.

loveablequalities · 26/12/2021 17:10

My parents are insane. They heat the house so much that everyone gets incredibly cross and I'll tempered and then everyone falls asleep. It's unbearable.

SoftPillow · 26/12/2021 17:20

My parents are visiting and keep complaining that it's cold.

I'm so so warm and struggling to maintain composure and grit teeth as they whack the heating on again and put another forest's worth of logs on the fire.

Our kids are running around bare legged and armed, I'm hot in a thin midi dress but you'd think my mum was in the Arctic given the pained martyrish face she's pulling.

80sMum · 26/12/2021 17:21

@Marmite27

My parents have a log burner.

I think my dad is practicing for his eternal rest in fiery he’ll with Satan.

We pack shorts and T-shirt’s Confused

Hahaha! Grin That made me chuckle. That's the trouble with wood burners, you can't turn them off! Once they're kicking out the heat it just keeps on going. In the winter, our living room is often about 25 degrees, whereas the rest of the house is about 14 degrees. I sometimes have to go out into the kitchen to cool down!

I swear my mil turns up the heat so
I get more agitated and snappy - then she can give it the ' oh sadsong you really must be struggling with your tiredness/work life balance/ hormones / mental health ' and when I lose it she can play the victim
Gaaaaaahhh the heat makes everything worse!
We have our thermostat between 15 and 18 - in laws have theirs set to 27!!!!!!!!!! It's ridiculous

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/12/2021 17:34

I keep my house at 24. I don’t consider this hot at all - it’s comfortable.

friedeggandsauce · 26/12/2021 17:34

I joke with my dad that old people have their heating so warm due to their winter fuel payment 🤣🤣

I do think as you get older you need it to be warmer

Rockbird · 26/12/2021 17:39

I hear you. I am currently melting at my in laws. And they have every light in the room on. It's like Blackpool Illuminations Hmm

RandomDent · 26/12/2021 17:54

We stayed at my in-laws during a heatwave a few summers ago. Oh my! They had heard that thing about not opening the windows - so they didn’t. But their house is insulated beyond belief. It was suffocating.

MotherOfCrocodiles · 26/12/2021 18:01

Hosting here. DM keeps turning up the heating whilst sitting under a blanket. BIL keeps opening the window, presumably as he is uncomfortably warm (I sure am). Thermometer (near open window) says 21. I'm trying to to get involved....

Ghostlyglow · 26/12/2021 19:18

In laws House is like this. I almost fall asleep sometimes. FIL takes blood thinners and feels the cold but even in summer they won't open windows or sit outside because they are obsessed with "noise" from the neighbours (their neighbours aren't noisy).

Brigante9 · 26/12/2021 19:54

My mother’s place is like this. She has an Aga in a bog standard suburban semi, my old bedroom is above it, she keeps all the doors closed and smokes constantly. She’s also decided not to wash recently. Horrific and she won’t listen to people mentioning-very gently and kindly-the smell. No dementia, she’s just become incredibly lazy since my dad died.

RandomMess · 26/12/2021 20:10

An amazing gift for those who feel the cold is an electric throw. Absolutely game changer.

tillyandmilly · 26/12/2021 20:14

We have ours on at 21 - any hotter and I get a headache - loads of friends houses soo hot! I prefer fresh air and layer up far healthier !

Showpan · 26/12/2021 21:07

I really hate hot houses, find it so stifling.

immersivereader · 27/12/2021 00:50

Usually BIL'S house is ridiculously hot. But the masses have been heard and it was actually cooler this time. SIL had a wool jacket on though, she's the one who has the heat on high usually. It just makes me feel sick.

KloppsTeeth · 27/12/2021 03:38

I am naturally a very hot person, and I cannot stand being too hot in a house. It makes me feel faint.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 27/12/2021 04:08

My mums house is like this but my grandad lives with her and has terminal cancer so he feels the cold now. We've all baked today round there

I go round and clean her walk in showers every week to help her out and the heat is horrendous so I feel your pain! My poor mum is boiling too

HoppingPavlova · 27/12/2021 05:14

*And a study from housing expert Richard Moore outlines exactly what damage can be caused by having homes at certain temperatures;
•24°C+ – Cardiovascular risk of strokes and heart attacks •21-24°C – Increasing discomfort, •18-21°C – Comfortable temperatures, •16-18°C – Discomfort, small health risks, •12-16°C – Risk of respiratory diseases, •9-12°C – Risk of strokes, heart attacks, •

Oatsamazing · 27/12/2021 06:33

My sister and BIL's house is normally boiling. I was very happy to hear that their boiler had broken shortly before we arrived Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/12/2021 06:45

24 isn’t hot that a normal room temperature.

24 is the current temperature in Abu Dhabi. It's colder in Nairobi at 19. Kingston, Jamaica is 23. Northern Thailand is 28 so a bit warmer. Honolulu is colder though. At 23.

Maybe you would stick the heat on in Kingston right now. But most people wouldn't. I'd be paddling and drinking iced drinks.

OutbackQueen · 27/12/2021 06:49

Elderly people feel the cold more. I like it at around 20 but my mum has it around 22/23 and I’m roasting. She really does feel chilly if it’s any cooler though so I just take some clothes off!

devildeepbluesea · 27/12/2021 06:58

Dad's house is bloody suffocation. He's not even that cold - sits there in a t-shirt himself! We arrive dressed in winter clothes because, you know, winter and within 5mins we're ready to expire.

My house is a very hot house too. Only need the heating on for about an hour in the evening usually, then it's bloody boiling. I couldn't sleep with the heating on, and I've always slept with the window open.
