I am melting. Melting.

I keep taking out the recycling to get a breath of air

My sil house is like this...radiators on 24/7 and too hot to even touch. It's absolutely unbearable and genuinely makes me feel nauseous. I often have to pop out because I've forgotten something in the car Wink

@Chickenlastshowlong ????

I think most people would be okay with 19/20 degrees 21+ inside in winter is warm! That's a hot sunny day in most parts of the UK.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/12/2021 16:05

My in-laws house is the same. Hotter than the sun. It is absolute fucking torture and it makes me feel sick.

mylovelypresent · 26/12/2021 16:09

Wasn't there a thread just the other day complaining about freezing cold in-laws houses?

Perhaps you should all swap in-laws?

SocialConnection · 26/12/2021 16:11

I used to get that going through menopause at Mum's. I had been known to turn the bedroom heater off and open the window so I could sleep. If some people are comfortably in short sleeved tops in full on heating in December while others are melting, some compromise is needed! I'm wearing a jumper, t shirt underneath, no heating on and we'll sit under a big velvet throw to watch telly which we think is cosier than 80 degree heating.

RampantIvy · 26/12/2021 16:12

@CatherinedeBourgh

I have this in almost everyone’s house.

I hate central heating.

Are you a polar bear? Grin

I wouldn't be able to function without central heating. We keep ours on low during the day in this weather, and wear jumpers.

Our downstairs is quite open and there is a lot of ventilation. I don't have the radiators on in bedrooms that aren't in use.

RandomMess · 26/12/2021 16:12

I just take my summer clothing to the in-laws year around 🤷🏽‍♀️ their new house is a more pleasant temperature fortunately.

BobbieT1999 · 26/12/2021 16:13

I posted recently about my sensitivity to heat, just back from a long walk into family's overly-heated home and all I want to do is stand under a cold shower!!

StiltonIsLife · 26/12/2021 16:13

God I'd love that. I have the opposite problem, always freezing (15c!)

Mumoftwoinprimary · 26/12/2021 16:13

My parents’ house is a sensible 20 degrees. Which is interesting is how many layers we are all wearing….

Dh - t shirt
Ds - t shirt
SIL - long sleeved t shirt
Nephew - long sleeved t shirt
DB - t shirt and jumper
Mum - t shirt and jumper
Dd - t shirt and thick hoodie
Dad - long sleeved shirt and jumper
Me - thermal vest top, long sleeved t shirt and jumper

Dh and I are not temperature compatible!

mylovelypresent · 26/12/2021 16:13

I had been known to turn the bedroom heater off and open the window so I could sleep

That's normal for some of us, nothing to do with the menopause.

Quornflakegirl · 26/12/2021 16:14

I cannot stand the radiators being on, I have started peri menopause and I am literally a walking inferno. I can count on one hand how many times the heating has been on since October and no once since the 21st 🔥🥵

Clarabellawilliamson · 26/12/2021 16:17

My thermostat is set to 20, we have only reached that temperature once! It's currently 17. Cold old house with crap windows. Good ventilation though!

invisiblereally · 26/12/2021 16:19

Oh my Lord that sounds unbearably hot and stuffy.
One of my friends has her house at 24' all the time no windows open and I can only stay an hour before I have to leave, as I start feeling faint and wanting to strip down to beat top in winter!

Our house is 19-20' and we have enough drafts to keep our feet cooler Grin My son has his window cracked open all night even at 20' with heating off overnight !!!

It's seems unhealthy to have house set so warm all the time.

HoneyFlowers · 26/12/2021 16:20

Omg my in-laws house the same. Never a window open, hot and stuffy no oxygen. We sneaked a window open and she came in "oh my goodness the window!" 🙄

SocialConnection · 26/12/2021 16:21

On a trip to Norway a few years back I was overwhelmed by a hot flush. I fought my way out of jacket and scarf and stood there adoring the feel of crisp icy air on blazing skin. A kindly young woman came over to check if I needed any help as clearly I must be nuts. Different generations, different ways of being and seeing.

Abraxan · 26/12/2021 16:24

21-22c is a very normal indoor CH temperature in my experience, for during the day/evening anyway.

Ours varies between that in the living room. Downstairs is be lower. Any higher downstairs and the living room and bedrooms become far too hot.

Drops to around 16c at night.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/12/2021 16:41

My dad's is 26 degrees all day and all night. We melt when we're there. First thing I do is turn the radiator off in the bedroom and open the window and it's STILL too hot from the heat under the door and coming up from downstairs.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 26/12/2021 16:46

MIL has the thermostat in her council flat set to 30deg. Yep, 30. Last time we were down there, it took me a while to work out why the place was so hot, I was threatening to leave but then found the thermostat and turned it down. When we picked her up on Christmas Eve to bring to ours, it was back up at 30deg and she was leaving her heating on during her 4day absence. I sneakily turned it down to 22 before we left ...

Larryyourwaiter · 26/12/2021 16:46

I find hot houses really unbearable. Ours is set to 19, it might go up to 20 when it’s really cold outside, but it’s not.

Gretaburley · 26/12/2021 16:49

No central heating here.
Df is 90 and feels the cold, log burner going 24/7.
We too are melting.
Df if just comfortable!
Luckily our bedroom is cold so I can sit in there.

MirthlessChuckle · 26/12/2021 16:53

Our in-laws house gets to a maximum of 15 degrees or so and then they open windows!

Still I much prefer that to baking.

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 26/12/2021 16:58

I wasn’t being competitive- my house is just so well insulated it doesn’t need the heating on high as it literally traps heat because it’s new. It’s lovely.

It’s also murder in the summer time even with all windows and doors open.
