Hi all
I’ve got around 4 stone to lose- made a couple of very half hearted attempts but don’t ever stick to anything 😩

I’m late 40s, and currently around 15 stone and a size 18, do little exercise and eat far too much chocolate and fast food!

So many different options out there, ultimately need to eat less and eat better while moving more - so not sure why it’s so hard for me to do?!

For those who are looking to lose weight and get fitter in 2022, what will you be doing?

Thanks so much

Already done 4 stone, so will be putting a bit more effort into the next whilst keeping the bits that worked.

Protein shake for breakfast, 200kcal-ish snack mid morning, lunch mostly fish, eggs, rice and veg, remainder of food in a substantial meal in the evening. Weight training and exercise.

My main thing will be stepping up the exercise a bit and at the point I hit a plateau, looking at calories again in case I need to knock a couple of potatoes off my plate.

Bookmarking Blush. I want to lose a stone or so!

Upupupintheair · 27/12/2021 02:53

Yes me!! 8 weeks post parfum now and eating way too much in pregnancy means that I’ve got 1.5 stones to lose to get to pre pregnancy weight. But I’d like to lose 2 to get to a weight I’m happy with…

I’ve been recommending my diet to everyone over the last 6 months - it’s called the Invisalign diet 😀 I finally decided to sort put my teeth and an unexpected and very welcome benefit of this is that I’ve lost a fair bit of weight because you can’t eat (or drink anything other than water) with the aligners in and you’re supposed to have them in for 22 hours a day … means I literally can’t snack at all, it’s far too much hassle to take them out, clean them, eat, brush teeth and put them back in for a quick snack. I have terrible Will power and can never normally stick to diets so this has been great for me, as well as getting straighter teeth!

Lost over 3 stone during lockdown with weightwatchers. Went from a size 18 to 12. Still a few pounds overweight so aiming for another stone and a size 10. Will continue with same plan and want to establish a regular exercise routine. I do bits and pieces now but not consistently

EssexLioness · 27/12/2021 09:32

Should say, I know weightwatchers gets a lot of criticism on MN but I find it preferable to counting calories. For me it basically means cooking fresh healthy ingredients, watching portion size and cutting out/ down on snacking. It gets a lot of criticism for being unhealthy and plugging processed crap but that’s not true at all. Yes some will eat that way but the basic plan focuses on healthy eating, you just need to ignore all the marketing of their own brand snacks etc

RoyTroyAndChris · 27/12/2021 09:38

Another 15 stone, starting to feel it in knees and bending down person here.
I did really well in Lockdown 1 - completed C25K and lost weight.
Not so good since then; put it all back on and here I am, starting again.

The part I find difficult is two teenage sons and a skinny husband who eat all the time, so I need food in.
I eat from boredom too, so I'm going to need to have a list of alternative activities. Easy to commit to now though - end of term me is going to find that a lot harder!

WellBuggerMeSideways · 27/12/2021 13:52

4 stone to lose over the year.

Drink is more of an issue than food - I love sugary drinks and I drink a fair amount of alcohol. Lack of sleep and medication play a role. But I cook healthy food, need to pick up exercise again and, with proper motivation, sould be able to do this steadily.

I like a visual reminder and apps just don't do it for me. So I draw a graph on actual graph paper, marking off each day's weight and then doing a 7-day average to see the trend. It works well for me.

MoFro · 27/12/2021 14:35

@EssexLioness there’s always good snd bad for each plan or programme but if you’ve found till it works for you then that’s brilliant! I went to slimming world a couple of times but never really did it properly so it’s my fault- the consultant has had people lose a few stone and stick with it.
Good luck with your journey!

@RoyTroyAndChris how the bloody heck do we get that lifestyle change that deals with it for once and for all ?! That’s the magic key to it all

I lost a few stone on a shakes diet a few years ago and then put it all back on when I went back to eating ‘normally’

Good luck all. Although I don’t have too much weight to lose I need to lose it and time up and get fit - all badly ignored areas over the last 3-4 years.
My plan is to have a dry January. Eat more fruit and veg and fewer carbs (basically less bread and butter and cheese in all forms). Probably revisit 16:8 or actually 5:2 which worked brilliantly and became easy to maintain when I did it before.
Really good luck everyone.

SnowyMouse · 27/12/2021 14:52

I need to lose 4 stone. I'll be going back to 1000 kcal/day, lost 2 stone since June, doing that.

PrancingQueen · 27/12/2021 19:50

I’m about to sign up to a boot camp for January. I’m finding size 18s are getting too snug Confused and want to get rid of my belly and gain more energy.
I have 4 stone to lose.

Monkeytennis97 · 27/12/2021 19:54

I'm back on it again. Aiming for 5 stone (again!). I lost 5 stone between March-August 2020 but it's all gone back on again - so annoyed at myself.

MotherWol · 27/12/2021 21:26

During lockdown I put on 2 stone, mostly from comfort eating and WFH meant I was much less active than usual. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in pregnancy, and lost a stone eating a lower carb diet; but now DD2 is six months old and I still have one stone left to lose. However I’ve learned I have high cholesterol, so I don’t want to do LCHF or Keto! Not quite sure what I should be doing to shift the weight tbh.

RamonaFlowers1 · 27/12/2021 21:30

I want to lose at least a stone and a half. My birthday is in the middle of January so I'm giving myself until then, and then I'm going back to Slimming World. I'm also going to knock chocolate on the head and go for more walks. I was awful for going over my syns last time round so it took me quite a long time but I eventually lost 2.5 stone and looking at pics I looked great! 1.5 has crept back on though so it's got to go!

WitchyBrew · 27/12/2021 21:39

I have 3 stone to lose thanks to lockdown/homeschooling hitting just after I had a baby in 2020, making it impossible to lose the baby weight 🙈 I'd be happy to shift 1 as it is now, because I think it would give me the motivation to keep going.

I've spent the last year yoyoing between different diets in a very unhealthy fashion and don't want to do the same in 2022, so I'm not sure how I'll go about it apart from more exercise/less junk Hmm

Done to everyone who has already started their weight loss Star

lpchill · 27/12/2021 21:40

Have 30kg to lose. On orlistat as have other medication that has made my weight balloon! Ate really well today had one yellow poo in morning but think due to eating so much high fat the day before. Plan is low fat and calorie deficit.

GlamourSpider · 27/12/2021 22:01

Another with 4st to go here, I am joining Slimming World. I've had success with fasting and low carbing before but always end up feeling deprived and piling it all back on...hoping SW is something I can follow longer term.

AfterEightMintyCedric · 27/12/2021 22:11

I need to lose about 8st which is horrific. Also perimenopausal with an underactive thyroid so it's going to be quite a challenge.

Starting with some Slimfast I need to use up for a jump start, then combo of clean eating/calorie deficit/intermittent fasting plus need to exercise a lot more.

I spoke to GP a couple of weeks ago and have a phone consultation with the weight clinic next week.

If I manage half a stone a month, that'll do me, although more would be great.

XenoBitch · 27/12/2021 22:59

I am planning on Intermittent Fasting (16:8). Have had good results in the past with it.

FreeFrenchHens · 28/12/2021 02:54

I lost 8kg last summer doing 16:8 and I need to get the momentum back.

My plan is delaying breakfast until 10ish, low ish carb breakfast/lunch/brunch, normal family dinner, fruit tea instead of snacks in the evening.

I should be aiming for 10st but I can't think beyond 11 stone/70 kg at the moment. I'm just going to focus on 5kg at a time.

superplumb · 28/12/2021 10:40

Slim n save for a couple of months to kick start loss then something sensible like owner sw afterwards

HPLikecraft · 28/12/2021 11:08

Haven't had time to RTFT yet, so placemarking for now.
I'm a similar size, weight and age to you, OP, and am definitely losing weight starting Jan 1st, but not sure which program or course of action to follow yet. There are so many! Will definitely be exercising more though.

By the way, there's a Dry January thread in chat (with a wonderful OP Wink) for anyone who needs support with that.

80sMum · 28/12/2021 11:15

I have less weight to lose than most of the PPs. I've been steadily gaining weight this year and want to nip it in the bud before it gets to the point where I need to replace all my clothes for larger sizes.

I've gained 6kg in the past 9 months and my body fat percentage has increased from 24% to 32 %. I want to stop gaining and then lose some weight. I'm aiming at losing 4kg and then see how I feel after that.
I'm currently 57kg, which is the most I have ever weighed in my life (except when pregnant, when I was about 59kg at full term).
I'm going to try to focus on eating fewer of my calories from the calorie-dense stuff, so cutting down on high fat things like cheese and cream and attempt to eat more fresh veg and fruit.

This is the first time in my life (I'm 64) that I've ever dieted for weight loss.
