Normally my DH is a bit rubbish at presents, but this year he has struck gold. I mentioned a while back that I'd like a new coat, a proper wool one. Imagine my surprise when I opened this beauty this morning.

I'm so surprised, normally he does all his shopping on Amazon and I get something tangentially related to a hobby.

Please everyone share what presents you have enjoyed this year.

We said we weren’t doing major presents this year and he usually gets me a load of Elemis stuff, but he was outwardly disgusted at the cost of it this year so I didn’t hold out much hope. BUT… he got me a load of lovely Lush stuff because of their sustainability factor, a book about one of my heroes, and 2 (very funny and very apt) Christmas jumpers because I don’t have any. Really thoughtful and lovely. Especially as he worries so much about buying presents as he has social anxiety and stuff like that stresses him out.
Lovely thread OP!

I've had brilliant presents this year , I picked and bought them myself and oh gave me the money back for them I've had lovely gifts from my dc and dgc including another giant sloth and a build a bear dinosaur wearing a fairy grandmother t-shirt but the gifts that really surprised me were from my oh dc the oldest got me a skull handbag and purse and the youngest got me a bracelet with a donkey charm on it they are absolutely fantastic and both made me cry

My husband chose me a really unusual, colourful, slightly sparkly necklace that was a real gamble and which I absolutely love! Something about it has really made me feel seen and loved and cared for. Like it was chosen with real love.

I got a beautiful necklace from my dh. It was one mentioned on here funnily enough, by Annie Haak of a tiny silver heart on a chain. I bloody love it.

Radyward · 25/12/2021 23:59

Dogmum40 · 26/12/2021 00:06

We got burgled a couple of years ago and they stole a necklace,(amongst other stuff) it was the first piece of jewellery my husband ever bought me when we first started dating, it didn’t cost the earth but it meant everything to me and I was heartbroken when it got stolen so this year he got me a similar looking necklace (they don’t make mine anymore) he bought me other bits but this has helped heal the wound of losing such a precious and sentimental item!

Boogaloony what a wonderful post. Lovely thread.

YourVagesty · 26/12/2021 00:20

Really thoughtful gifts from DH this year. Some very expensive chocolates, a very expensive onesie, a new camera to take pictures of our baby and lots of other random but excellent stuff (venus fly traps! Hand felted slippers! Hand made soaps! An Emma Bridgewater Mug!). I'm very, very spoiled.

ScatteredMama82 · 26/12/2021 00:26

Ah a lovely thread! My DH bought me the newest Outlander book, and kept telling me to go and sit down and read it in front of the fire while he cleaned up the kitchen, got the kids to bed etc. I get very stressed and can’t relax, so the fact that he got me a huge book he knows I’ll love, and keeps sending me off to read it makes me feel loved ❤️ I also got a pair of riding boots as I said I want to start riding again but I got rid of all my gear years ago. He’s a good ‘un 😊

AgathaMystery · 26/12/2021 00:39

This thread is so sweet. My husband tracked down what I am convinced it that last bottle of ‘my’ scent on earth. It was discontinued 2 yrs ago and I’ve been rationing myself to a squirt a day of my dwindling bottle. I don’t know how he found it. It’s so thoughtful.

@Boogaloony

My husband got me some shoes and a book I wanted but I told him not to go overboard as I would prefer to shop the sales.

What really made my gift this year was a two parter. My mum and dad came into a bit of money and wanted to know what to get me. I told them it was a lovely idea but my sister/their daughter is a single parent to 2 kids with autism. She has been asking me to go over her budget with her to see where she can save up for a new dish washer for Easter as she is tired to the sink with doing Umpteen meals for very fussy kids. So I told them to use my money to pool with hers and get hers a cheap dishwasher. They did and she cried her leg off when it was delivered just before Christmas. The other part is that her eldest confused in me that his mum had said (when they were writing their lists) that she would like a bottle of bright nail varnish. I worked with him on the QT and we got her a lovely little stocking put together with things they thought she would like. Nail varnish ( and related bits), a pizza cutter (?!), and he chose a sterling silver locket and decided which photos were to be put in it and then cut these tiny little photos and I helped him put them in. For a kid that two years ago couldn't cut paper and needed a special adapted pair of scissors this was huge. Again, she cried but so did he. So the vast majority of "my" Christmas money went on her as she doesn't have anybody else that really even bothers. And THAT is the best possible gift I could have ever got.

It's so lovely reading that other people are happy with their festive gifts too. It gives me the proper warm fuzzies and makes me want to hug you all. Or it could be the Prosecco 😂❤️

Awww you sound so lovely ❤️
Crowdfundingforcake · 26/12/2021 08:12

A eufy. I am beyond thrilled. I don't wear jewellery, have no interest in clothes, DH realised ages ago that I really am happiest with practical stuff! Also a new mobile because my current phone is on it's last legs and Nigel Slater's new book. Very lucky me.

Dh's favourite and best present was a photo mug with pictures of our two cats on..... Grin

Aspergirl77 · 26/12/2021 08:43

I had already had a body shop advent calendar I had heavily hinted at (!) and on CE some flowers from the DC (bought by DH!) so wasn’t expecting anything really, but DH is a good’un and CD morning I was lucky enough to get some new straighteners that I’d previously mentioned in passing, a lovely warm blanket scarf, hotel chocolat chocs , m&s chocolate brazils (which are one of my absolute favourites!), a silver necklace and some body butters. Best present though was being able to share the day with my extended family Smile as last year was the first year in my 44 years of existence that I hadn’t been with them on CD.

I am crying reading this post. What a loving thing for you to do for your sister and her family. You and your parents sound like a fantastic support network for her. 💗

DH got me a lovely framed print off Etsy by an artist who I really like.

slug · 26/12/2021 09:11

DD, a student who is not the most practical creature, made me a pair of earrings from sea glass she had collected herself wrapped in silver wire. I'm beyond thrilled.

I'd hug you! Lovely, just utterly lovely Thanks
Mybalconyiscracking · 26/12/2021 09:14

I asked for and received a Fitbit and a soup maker, he normally gets me a box of Bittermints as well but didn’t this year as he knows I am unhappy about my weight.
I suppose this counts as thoughtfulness Grin

AuntieStella · 26/12/2021 09:22

DH got me a theragun (sports massage thingie) from a smallish independent supplier

As he often doesn't quite pay enough attention and gets a 'near miss' IYSWIM, but this was absolutely right.

DCs all got me Gin - not ponced-up gin or gin-related goodness-knows-what, but good gin from unusual suppliers and posh tonic. So I think they've been paying attention too!

WhatAHexIGotInto · 26/12/2021 09:27

A lovely bracelet from DH that I'm so happy with and tickets to a west end show with DD.

Best Christmas present was spending the day with my sister and family who we haven't seen for such a long time.

Enzbear · 26/12/2021 09:32

My DH has always been a wonderful present buyer.
This year he bought me some stunningly beautiful jewelry.
He loves his main present from me so we're two happy Christmas bunnies.

itsgettingweird · 26/12/2021 09:33

Love the coat and looks great on you!

My fave gift was a slow cooker from a sibling.

Yes - I know - many Mners would hate that. But I asked for one years ago for xmas and due to a busy lifestyle and being a LP to a ds who is disabled it's very useful.

A few weeks ago we were at a family gathering and I was talking about my soup maker and how great it is and mentioned in new year I'd need a new slow cooker as I'd had to sellotape the button on my old one due to over use!

So I'm just so pleased that people listen to me and gift me useful items that will make a difference to my everyday - not just something to open xmas day.

The poster above who made sure her sister with autistic kids and a LP is my absolute hero. Thanks for appreciating how tough it is for us - and how something organically makes more difference than someone lovely to bathe in for a month until it's gone!

I got a similar model Robo hoover fit my birthday in December. Didn't ask for it, had no idea about them. It's the BEST thing I've gotten in years! I love it. He's got Googly eyes and his name is Noonoo and I've even bought him a little bandana with his initials on 😂
Crowdfundingforcake · 26/12/2021 12:03

Now my eufy (Euphemia) wants a bandana. Or a crown.

Goldenbear · 26/12/2021 12:17

A bold necklace that I absolutely adore from DH and my gorgeous 14.5 DS went Christmas shopping on Monday in a local historical small town known for its boutique shops and antiques rather than shopping in our city centre, to visit said shops and buy something different for us all. He bought me a local artist designed mug, his Dad a vintage dinky toy car in an antique shop as my DH loved his toy cars as a boy and still does and his little 10 year old sister a Christmas Meerkat ornament with knitted legs that hang over the side and some baby Sylvanian mice she wanted. He has never bought anything before and we were overwhelmed with the thought involved! My DD is a brilliant artist and gave us a painting of a flower on a small canvas and her brother a sewn flying squirrel!
