very DULL question around sofas (with a shameless cute picture of my dog for traffic)

Very dull question around sofas 😁 we have an oddly shaped lounge and thus at the moment don't have sofas but a selection of single chairs and a 'snuggler'. The issue is that there are five of us and the kids are aged 11, 13 and 15 and all adult sized now (and we have three dogs too!) . We are therefore looking at corner sofas but it needs to be both compact and squishy (not a chaise one) and reasonably priced. I'm struggling to find anything that fits the brief so any thoughts oh wise ones 😁
PS. Picture of one dog is a shameless attempt to get people to look at my dull post😉

How compact?

WayneBruce · 20/12/2021 09:17

Can you draw a room plan so we can see the doors, fireplace and windows?
There are corner or chaise or even u shaped sofas, but hard to recommend what might work.

Fraida · 20/12/2021 09:17

@Corbally

How compact?
So a 4/5 seater?

Here is a rough sketch... an irregular shape! We are in a Victorian house.

We need more photos of the dog. My favourite breed. Do the other dogs need a photo so we can make an informed answer about the sofas? You lost me with that beautiful picture of your gorgeous dog.

Can you remove the doors to the lobby ?

Fraida · 20/12/2021 09:35

@SprayedWithDettol

Can you remove the doors to the lobby ?
Unfortunately not... as its a brick wall and also provides a barrier between the front door and the road (don't want the dogs bolting out of the door onto the main road when the door is open).

Probably not the answer you want OP, but we have a similar house and number of DC (no dogs though - cats). We've done away with sofas entirely and have 5 Victorian armchairs.

ClaudiaWankleman · 20/12/2021 10:11

With so many of you, you need a corner sofa with arms at both ends, allow all of the sofa to be used for reclining and not just feet - something like this. That would comfortably fit 3 plus a dog, or 4 if you all sat upright. Depending on size all 5 might be able to squash on for formal use.

The only downside is that the corner cushion of any corner sofa is always a bit of a waste of space. I agree with PP who says armchairs are useful - I'd put a small sofa in the bay window, a couple of armchairs facing the fireplace, one in the alcove next to the fireplace and the TV above the fireplace (I normally hate this, but it would work best here I think). Then 4 of 5 places will have a clear line of sight to the TV and the fifth can always be turned around and placed in front of the doors in the evenings.

Sofa.com do a range of sizes in all their sofas, and the corner sofas come in small, medium etc. too. You might find something that works from there. That is a tough space to configure though!

I love that sofa, its the same colour as two of my current chairs!

The issue with single chairs solely is the kids do like a cuddle with me (even at this age!!) also to stretch out and loll as they are apt to do! Maybe I may have to accept that my lounge just isn't conducive to a traditional sofa set up :( I have a yearning for a Loaf type sofa!

Does anyone have any opinion on Snug who do the smaller sofas?

Came for the dog. (Was not disappointed.) Can’t help with the sofa situation. Grin

ClementineWardobe · 20/12/2021 12:05

Would buying a modular sofa where you only have an arm at one end and the other end open help? It means two people can be on it but the lanky cuddly teenager can stick their feet off the end, and you have more circulation space when people are up and about. I'd do that, two sofas where one end worked more like a chaise longue. Corner sofas are a nightmare. The corner itself never gets used. That said, a dog sometimes adopts the corner.

Try quatropi.com. If you don't see something that you think will work, just contact them I'm sure they can help

Ha! You should! Pop a little bear on anything I’ll be much more inclined to engage!

Wonderful little gang you’ve got there. ☺️

Stellaris22 · 20/12/2021 15:46

No advice but just loving seeing a fellow basset owner, yours is lovely! They do end up owning sofas Smile

I'm also just here for the dogs!

Pancakeorcrepe · 20/12/2021 15:56

Omg I love all your dogs

Tootyfilou · 20/12/2021 16:09

I absolutely love basset hounds 😍♥️
I had one as a child. Wonderful dogs.
No help with sofa sorry. Have my own sofa dilemma trying to find a sofa I like that will not be wrecked by my two golden retrievers .
Good luck!

Fab dog pics. I love Bassetts!

No idea about the sofa problem, sorry.

I feel the bar has now been raised though: furniture and design issues posted on MN will in future need to contain a cute picture of a pet.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/12/2021 16:23

Have a look at Nabru. You can almost build your own sofa to fit your own specifications. We’ve had our sofa for about 9ish years now. It’s a bit of a twat to put together though

Lemuriformes · 20/12/2021 16:41

I have no dog (yet - when I move house in January!) but I can recommend Snug. All sorts of sizes and easy to put together or take apart and move around.
