Would you cancel this day out?

Tickets for panto tomorrow, big theatre, (1400 seats and said it’s sold out) . The theatre have emailed saying they’ll have the doors open throughout and masks to stay on but no social distancing other than when arriving and leaving, potentially . We are sitting at the very far back of the ground floor .

Also due to be going to Nando’s after (which I imagine will be a thousand times safer and probably empty!) . Will have to take a bus to get there and walk through a usually very busy shopping centre.

I’m in two minds about going . Two of us are double vaccinated, booster due on Monday . One has had three vaccines . All three vulnerable/additional health issues and one over 55 (and not had a booster) . I’m seriously overweight and have previously had pleurisy pneumonia/tend to get a bad chest most winters, though I’m under 40 .

I’m in two minds about going and dithering over cancelling altogether, or just going to Nando’s, it’s the theatre worrying me .

Friends work in A&E and for covid GP services and ICU and are saying it’s manic just now .

I don’t know if we should cancel altogether, I don’t know what would be safest . WWYD?

Like a shot. I think you'd be bloody bonkers to attend this.

TallulahsCurse · 18/12/2021 19:33

I wouldn't go. But that's only because I loathe pantos. Other than that you're just as likely to catch it anywhere, I'd go.

girlmom21 · 18/12/2021 19:34

I'd go.
It's expensive and it's fun.
Most people will do the decent thing and have a LFT before they go.

I'm going on Thursday unless it's cancelled

Like hell they will, I would willingly bet that less than 10% of people would do an LFT. Myself included.
JustBkind · 18/12/2021 19:36

Personally, I wouldn’t go, too high risk.

MajorCarolDanvers · 18/12/2021 19:38

I'd go.

In the last week I've been to the football and panto and tomorrow I'm going to the cinema.

I'm treble jabbed.

Twizbe · 18/12/2021 19:39

I'd go. I'm double jabbed and have had covid. I've got no fear of getting it any more.

Papertrail392 · 18/12/2021 19:47

We've cancelled our panto for the 28th, I'm CEV. It's disappointing but it's just not worth it. We've lost the money but it's already been spent and I see it as us supporting a local theatre. Hopefully next year will be better.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/12/2021 19:50

We were supposed to be going to see The Nutcracker, by the Bolshoi Ballet, at the cinema tomorrow - which I was really looking forward to (The Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition for me now) - but we have decided not to go.

It’s not so much about the risk to us, but if we get pinged or test positive, that would completely mess up Christmas, so we were reluctant to make the decision, but happy we’ve made the right one.

Spitspotsput · 18/12/2021 19:54

I’m a bit confused why you are convinced Nando’s would be empty. I went to Wetherspoons today and it was almost at capacity.

I would go, but that’s me. If you are too worried, its fine to cancel.

100problems · 18/12/2021 19:55

Like hell they will, I would willingly bet that less than 10% of people would do an LFT. Myself included.

That's why.

After all this time there are still those that walk amongst us who give zero shits.

It’s a quiet one, it’s usually empty on a normal day - there’s a busier one in bigger shopping centre and then a smaller Nando’s closer to the theatre that’s usually very quiet .

That makes sense about LFT yes …

We haven’t plans to go anywhere else or see anyone else over xmas, other than booster vaccs on Monday and needing to pick up repeat meds . Not seeing any family or friends or anything.

It’s more me worrying that my weight would make it a very serious illness for me, I realise that’s entirely my own fault for being fat but I’m generally very anxious anyway and would probably spend the next week after panicking about every little headache .

Which seems ridiculous as I was at a funeral with 150 people last month, no masks at all, so I don’t know … and I was at a panto just last week in a much much smaller community hall, less people (about 75) but no air flow/ventilation etc and nobody checking re lateral flows etc … and was fine after that .

Bloodybridget · 18/12/2021 20:09

@TallulahsCurse why the fuck wouldn't you test before going to an event? How can you be that thoughtless?

Lindy2 · 18/12/2021 20:10

With your health issues I wouldn't risk it.

We went to a pantomime last weekend. We have had Covid and 3 vaccinations but no I did not feel it was safe at all in terms of reducing the Covid risk.

Most adults wore masks. The children didn't (as expected). We were also "lucky" enough to be sat behind the family of 5 all of whom proudly declared themselves medically exempt from mask wearing. All 5 of them Hmm

Billyliarohdear · 18/12/2021 20:10

Don't go.You are going to be worrying all week about having gone and I don't think that's worth it.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 18/12/2021 20:15

I wouldn’t go

wouldyoucancel · 18/12/2021 20:16

We’re going to the quieter Nando’s and for a very quick browse around the shops, M&S, not going to the theatre . Decided between the three of us it wouldn’t be worth trying . Lost £100 or so but as someone said up thread we’d have lost that money anyway so doesn’t feel too bad .

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/12/2021 20:17

I wouldn’t go.

Weigh up whether you’ll regret not having a last fun day out for a while if this circuit breaker/lockdown happens - the hardcore nudge is underway right now so looks inevitable - against whether you’ll spend it panicking and then worrying afterwards.

I really feel for you, the whole thing sucks. And don’t beat yourself up, that doesn’t help anyone.

Superstar22 · 18/12/2021 20:18

I have no high risks, triple boostered and definitely wouldn’t go. You should cancel. Protecting your health is the most important thing you can do this Christmas. Good luck

TuftyMarmoset · 18/12/2021 20:20

Were the tickets expensive? I’m weighing up whether to still go to the ballet next week and I know it’s a sunk cost but I’m leaning towards going (wearing a mask throughout) because the tickets were
£60 each…. Not vulnerable though. It’s so hard to decide. Kind of hoping the theatre will cancel but at this stage I guess yours won’t.

weegiemum · 18/12/2021 20:20

My dd2 was supposed to be going to Edinburgh tomorrow on the train to go to the Christmas markets. There's other reasons she shouldn't go (her own other health issues) but if she gets COVID then mil can't come for Christmas and it would be a nightmare for dh this week in the lead up at work.

She's not going, took it quite calmly.

I'd try and sell your tickets on. Even if you only get half the purchase price it's better than nothing.

I think you're incredibly naive if you think people will take LFT's.

I don't know anyone IRL (ie. outside of MN) who takes LFT's unless they've been in contact with a positive case. Most people are just living their lives as normal around here, with masks if they're required.

I would absolutely go, though.
