Are there any decent alcohol-free beers and wines?

I suddenly got sick yesterday, I’m on medication and can have absolutely no alcohol while I’m on it, which will probably be at least a week or two.

So my plans to have some nice wine, fizz and beer for Christmas are out of the window. Can anyone recommend any non-alcoholic ones that actually taste good? I’m interested in white wine, sparkling wine, beers and mocktails.

The ones I tried years ago were completely revolting, so I’m hoping that some better offerings are available these days.

Nozeco is lovely!!

@QueenofLouisiana thanks for the Nethergate recommendation, will get some of that for FIL!

Brewdog do Nanny State (favourite) and Punk A.F which is ok. I quite like kombucha as an alternative to alcohol.

Have never had a decent no alcohol wine/fizz.

I second the oddbird suggestion for sparkling wine.
Also duchess AF g and T
Then Af hoegarten and bavaria weiz beer are my favourite beers.

There's loads of decent 0% beer these days, but I haven't found a wine substitute, and Nozeco was far too sweet for me. Thus thread a couple of weeks ago had some good ideas:

My DH likes his beer, and does drink alcohol free every now and then. He likes the brew dog AF - says it tastes less malty and more beery. Otherwise, think Becks was best other one he tried. We tried some AF frexinet bubbly at the weekend - was nice - bit sweet though. Hope you feel better soon

We hate becks blue. Just a very strange after taste. Plenty of the other beers are pretty good though. We regularly buy the Aldi pilsner - it is a tiny bit gassy but it’s not bad and a lot of the craft options are very nice. I’ve added Guinness to my list to try.

The wines are almost universally awful. It’s a shame as I’d love a glass of wine at Christmas.

I do a lot of grownup soft drinks - spicy ginger beer, rose lemonade, tonics (with or without bitters), sometimes I’ll make a shrub. The glass definitely makes a difference too. You need something that feels special - not just squash sloshed in a kids beaker.

Can confirm after extensive taste testing whilst pregnant that there are no nice alcohol free wines. Nosecco ok if you want something bubbly to toast with. Very sweet but drinkable.

I like M&S 0% Alc sparkling botanic G&T. Lovely and even better with ice and a slice of lemon or lime. Not sweet and hard to tell the difference.

The brew dog punk AF is nice.

Kombucha can often be a good alternative. Booch and brew’s fairy wings kombucha is a really nice sparkling wine alternative.

Binary Botanical is really, really good - and I write that as someone who has hated every other non-alc variant of beer particularly. (It's a beer that has a wine-like tang to it.)

My dh really likes Becks blue non alcoholic beers. He's also had the non alcoholic Guinness which he said was really good. Nanny State by Brew Dog is also another good one, but a bit pricey.
I really like these two, especially the florale one www.amazon.co.uk/Martini-Non-Alcoholic-Aperitivo-Vibrante-Floreale/dp/B087448TQW?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 I have it in my gin glass and don't feel like I am missing out. Well, apart from the hangover and the snackage that comes with alcohol Wink
The non alcoholic wine I've tried was awful. I'd rather go without.

longtompot · 17/12/2021 11:10

Another drink I love is apple and alfonso mango squash with ice, lots of fresh mint and soda water. Again in a gin glass. Really refreshing and looks special.

The ciders are definitely the best bet, other than the fact you get no alcohol feelings, they taste exactly the same. They are all nice, all brands and all flavours.
