JkR is a truly amazing woman. Yes, she could be sitting in her castle, revelling in her riches (earned wealth). Instead, she is so, so generous with her time and her money, giving to those who really need the help, recognising through her own experience why women need support in safe places. She is the absolute antithesis of those who become successful and pull the ladder up after them. She is truly one of a kind.

Whinge · 16/12/2021 21:11

Nominated

Boozysoozy1 · 16/12/2021 21:12

Done but not sure why they needed my email or job

Linguini · 16/12/2021 21:12

I'd have sat in my castle and used my money and resources to help others less fortunate. But alas.

She's the biggest donator to women's refuge in Scotland and the biggest tax payer in Scotland.

She doesn't have a single tax dodging scheme on the go. You can't name anyone who's paid more tax than JKR. Even Amazon Corp pay less globally than JKR.

@Blessedandstresseddd

God you’re all going to be raging when I tell you I have no problem being called a birthing person and someone who is currently chest feeding. How does accepting trans women living their lives, erase your womanhood? Absolutely baffling 😂 I’ve been a long time lurker on AIBU and I have to say the trans threads are the most confusing! Blowing out someone else candle doesn’t make yours shine any brighter darlings ❤️❤️

Sorry - chest feeding? Birthing person? How fucking ridiculous...what world are my kids growing up in ffs

lessthanathirdofanacre · 16/12/2021 21:12

I can think of many people to nominate but J.K. Rowling definitely isn’t one of them. Alexei Navalny would probably be my top choice for person of the year.

Eightmagpies · 16/12/2021 21:13

Nominated. Thank you JKR

EishetChayil · 16/12/2021 21:13

@VladmirsPoutine

JK could have gone down as one of the greats of our time but instead she chose to shit on her own legacy. I'll get why. In her shoes I'd have sat in my castle and used my money and resources to help others less fortunate. But alas.

Like her charity Lumos, which helps underprivileged children?

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 16/12/2021 21:14

I am one of the laziest fuckers around, quite often dont sign petitions or read links

But I’ll make sure I nominate JKR

Honestly I can’t impress on you enough how little i do this sort of stuff…but I’ll do this 😀

DismantledKing · 16/12/2021 21:14

@Lokdok

What are you nominating her for? Apart from being a transphobe.
And what has she said that’s transphobic? Nobody has managed to provide anything so far.
Mwnci123 · 16/12/2021 21:14

Done

This is from 2017 so no doubt there have been more charitable endeavours since then but just to point out

"Rowling is known for her charitable works where she contributes significant sums to charities such as Anti-Poverty, Multiple Sclerosis Research and Lumos Foundation. On top of that, she created the Volant Charitable Trust in 2000 to help children and women in Scotland. The British Red Cross Humanity Award was awarded to her in 2015 for her advocacy and charity work.
In 2013, she donated £10 million to help open the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at the University of Edinburgh. The clinic is named after her mother, who had multiple sclerosis."

goldfluffyclouds · 16/12/2021 21:17

thanks for this - i love JKR and have voted for her...

Mumoftwoinprimary · 16/12/2021 21:17

Done.

For reason I put “For demonstrating time and time again what it means to be in Gryffindor.”

SpanielsAreMyLife · 16/12/2021 21:17

Voted.

shouldistop · 16/12/2021 21:17

And another fact

"J. K. Rowling achieved billionaire status because of her success with the Harry Potter series. However, she is no longer a billionaire because she has donated so much of her fortune to charity. In 2011, she donated 16 percent of her total net worth, equal to about $160 million."

I wonder if certain posters are in any way embarrassed

OatALot · 16/12/2021 21:18

Done.

Seriouslymole · 16/12/2021 21:18

Done - and thank you for the link. I love JKR, not only has she encouraged a generation to read with her amazing books but she stands up for all women and donates insane amounts to charity. She is incredible.

But… it’s The Guardian - it will never be allowed; if they had a million votes for her and 1 for someone else, the someone else would get it.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 16/12/2021 21:18

Great! Glad you’re here. I’ve high hopes you’ll be the one that sheds light on what she’s said that is transphobic.

TIA.
