I found an agency that SS didn't know covered our area and they had the capacity to take DH on so he is now home ahead of care starting on Monday. After being told he might not be home for weeks I bloody did it. I got him home and in time for Christmas.

(back story, DH has terminal cancer and was doing OK apart from some new small tumours and the main one growing again. He was working full time, then he had a massive stroke on 20th November and is now a shadow of his former self, he can't speak, walk or use the right side of his body).

I am really, properly glad for you, OP. I remember the relief when we got carers sorted for my mum who [we were told] only had a couple of weeks left; she spent Christmas in hospital and it was grim, but ironically she actually did quite well back home (she had leukaemia so had constant infections in hospital) and the carers meant we could all spend quality time together. Only one company had availability and they turned out to be absolute diamonds. We had mum for five months rather than two weeks in the end, which was wonderful.

Peridot1 · 15/12/2021 21:39

Bloody well done you! It shouldn’t be that hard of course. Wishing you all the very best for a peaceful time.
