Would you go out to a pub meal tonight, Hampshire?

Just canvassing opinions.

I'm triple vaxxed, husband double, both 60 but not CV. We are due to catch up with 4 friends for a pub meal tonight, outside Southampton.

Given the uptick in messaging from the authorities; and given the government's record for whipping up a hysterical frenzy over The Covid Danger messaging over the past 18 months- recalling they had to wheel out 'eat out to help out' to get us out from cowering behind our sofas; and 'go back to the office', in the same vein....

Would you go?

Yes I would. Just take extra measures like face mask wearing (not at the table but in and out of restaurant & toilets) and use lots of hand sanitizer. Enjoy your meal. Smile

AtomicBlondeRose · 15/12/2021 13:51

Yes, wouldn’t even think twice about it tbh. Work all day in a busy environment so going out doesn’t worry me at all.

C0nn1e · 15/12/2021 13:52

Have a lovely time

PurpleDaisies · 15/12/2021 13:53

Yes, I’d go.

roarfeckingroarr · 15/12/2021 13:55

I'm going out in central London tonight so yes

Mama1980 · 15/12/2021 13:58

Yes I've just had lunch in central London. Have a nice time.

emmathedilemma · 15/12/2021 14:00

For me it would depend what my plans were for the next 2 weeks. I'm basically resigned to catching covid at some point but would rather not spend 10 days of my Christmas break self isolating on my own! Last Christmas was bad enough not being able to travel to see family but at least I had a local friend for company but home alone ain't happening if I can help it!

Justcannotbearsed · 15/12/2021 14:00

Of course. I'm dithering about going out to a gig tonight as that will be crowded, sweaty and maskless. But only because I don't want to put the household into isolation for Christmas.

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2021 14:14

I wouldn't. But that's because I'm being careful about where I go and what I do.
Seeing my family on Christmas Day is top of my priority list. Works drinks/meals in pubs - not so much.

zafferana · 15/12/2021 14:17

Yes, I would in your circumstances. If you'd said that neither of you were vaccinated, I'd say no, don't go. But this is as good as life is going to get. There will always be Covid. There will always be new variants. You can choose to be scared forever more or to live your life. I'm done with the constant scaremongering and hysteria from the govt/press.

itwasntaparty · 15/12/2021 14:42

I wouldn't because it's too close to Christmas. I got delta in august despite being double vaccinated. Wasn't very unwell but don't want to be isolating on Christmas Day.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 14:44

God yes. Poor pubs and restaurants having people cancel all over the place. Go and have a nice time while you still have the chance.

MarmitesMyMate · 15/12/2021 14:44

Yes wouldn't give it a 2nd thought!

JacquelineCarlyle · 15/12/2021 15:02

Yes - likely they'll put us into some form of isolation soon enough so I'm certainly not locking myself down or enforcing isolation unnecessarily.

OhWhyNot · 15/12/2021 15:03

Yes

Hbh17 · 15/12/2021 15:05

Of course! Can't think of any good reason not to.

Iamblossom · 15/12/2021 15:05

Yes I would. I have cancelled lunch in London but am still going to dinner twice next week in Hampshire, where I live

Aposterhasnoname · 15/12/2021 15:06

Yes of course

Classica · 15/12/2021 15:09

I'm hoping to go to Ireland next week and have to show proof of a negative Covid test in order to board the plane. So I wouldn't for that reason.

Winnerwinnerveggiedinner · 15/12/2021 15:13

Yes. I'm out in the city on a works do. Can't wait to meet some of them for the first time! I don't believe Hampshire is a hotbed of Delta/ Omicron and the odds of hospitalisation are low for the vaxxed and boostered anyway, if you do catch it. Have a nice time while you can!

CarlaH · 15/12/2021 15:18

Why are people still banging on about hand sanitizer. It won't make any difference covid is airborne transmission.

Ruralbliss · 15/12/2021 15:24

I'm cancelling eating out plans to minimise risk of infection ahead of a small 50th birthday weekend booked for NYE. If I miss that I'll be gutted but each to their own on assessing risk and impact of catching it.

Pensieve · 15/12/2021 15:26

I went out to a restaurant and then a bar in a major city last weekend. Realised that’s the ‘riskiest’ thing I’ve done as only usually in quiet restaurants and WFH etc.

Had a GREAT time but will be honest it was fine in the restaurant as there’s distance between tables but it was carnage with people elsewhere. I’ve been fretting a bit since (and I’m not an anxious person) how many people I was in v close contact to with zero mitigation beyond my vaxes. Got a sore throat which is probably a minor bug and got negative tests back but it’s made me think given where cases are at.

We’ve all missed so much though so in short - I’m ok with restaurants but not pubs (for me).

TeenMinusTests · 15/12/2021 15:27

Somewhere nice? I've only eaten out twice in 20 months, at Hilliers Arboretum (nr S'oton for the uninitiated). So I wouldn't, but you go enjoy yourself.

Joystir59 · 15/12/2021 15:52

Yes, I hope you have a great time
