My pan is ruined from DH using metal masher in it.

Do you transfer your potatoes to something else? Or use a silicone masher?

Just curious.

We use a metal masher and the saucepan the potatoes are cooked in. I never understand how pans get damaged?

JingleJingleAllTheWay · 13/12/2021 08:07

Saucepan. I've been doing it for years and have never ruined a pan. He must been doing it very hard.

Wilma55 · 13/12/2021 08:09

Saucepan with metal masher

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2021 08:09

In a stainless steel pan, with a stainless steel masher. A dd has a silicon masher and TBH it’s pretty useless by comparison.

Unmute · 13/12/2021 08:10

Pan they were cooked in and metal masher. You could use a potato ricer?

TeenMinusTests · 13/12/2021 08:11

Were you the poster who wrote abut this recently?

We have a silicone masher.

MintJulia · 13/12/2021 08:12

How is your pan ruined? Does he use a non-stick pan and damage the coating. Just replace it with a stainless steel pan.

WeatherwaxLives · 13/12/2021 08:14

I hane one of those mashers that's like a cone shaped coil / spring. Might be called Smood?

I mash in the pan. But I wouldn't use a non stick pan for boiling potatoes as they don't stick. I have stainless pans for that, my only non stick pan is the frying pan.

GiltEdges · 13/12/2021 08:23

I tend to use the ricer, but DH prefers to mash with a traditional (metal) masher using the pain the potatoes were cooked in. Never ruined a pan and struggling to imagine how that would even happen.

JustWonderingIfYou · 13/12/2021 08:25

Metal masher in pan they were cooked in which is either non stick or stainless steel. We also have a silicone coated metal masher but it always seems to be missing.

We also use a ricer for fancy times!

toastofthetown · 13/12/2021 08:26

I mash in the saucepan with a plastic masher. Is your saucepan non stick, as I can't see how else a masher would ruin the pan?

ShirleyPhallus · 13/12/2021 08:26

I use frozen mash which is honestly way better than any fresh mash I’ve ever made, takes minutes and no gloopy masher to wash up

SoupDragon · 13/12/2021 08:26

I use a potato ricer.

I can easily see how a metal masher would ruin a pan with a non-stick coating.

EssexLioness · 13/12/2021 08:28

Saucepan and metal masher. Never had pans ruined and don’t understand how this can happen.

greenlynx · 13/12/2021 08:29

Stainless steel pan and metal masher.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 13/12/2021 08:35

Stainless steel pan and metal masher

christmaspombear · 13/12/2021 08:36

Ricer here, into a bowl then riced again back to the pan

Shedmistress · 13/12/2021 08:38

I use a corkscrew potato ricer and it is a dream.

Saucepan and metal masher. Never had pans ruined and don’t understand how this can happen.

Bless you. It is the metal scraping the non stick coating off that is the issue. Not that boiled potatoes need a non stick saucepan, however some people only have non-stick pans so that's how it happens.

thefishcake · 13/12/2021 08:39

Put potatoes into a mixing bowl, use a hand mixer (that you'd use for making a cake) 30-60 seconds and you've got the smoothest mash, and no arm ache. It's a game changer!

hivemindneeded · 13/12/2021 08:45

Saucepan. Use a silicon masher and make sure the potatoes are well enough cooked so they mash easily.

Bushkin · 13/12/2021 08:49

A ricer or in kitchen aid if bigger quantities

BonnyEm · 13/12/2021 08:56

Mixing bowl

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 13/12/2021 08:59

My pan has also been ruined by a potato masher. Despite me asking ex/the teens not to mash in the pan. They insisted that they knew better Sad

WakeUpLockie · 13/12/2021 08:59

Non non-stick pan. So, stainless steel pan. Otherwise the non stick gets ruined and your potatoes get bits of non-stick in. Can’t really see what other damage could be done so I guess that’s what you’re talking about? Metal masher.

DixieSun · 13/12/2021 08:59

Saucepan with metal masher. Wtf is he doing to have damaged it?
