Something strange is happening in my bedroom and I can’t work out why!

I’m sorry, it’s not very exciting but I just don’t understand it.

I have a bedside cabinet, and about 6 weeks ago I noticed that there was some gritty rubbley type stuff on it. I wiped it away but later on there was more there. I thought I mustn’t have cleared it up properly so did it again, more thoroughly.

And basically, ever since, there’s nearly always this gritty stuff there! I can’t imagine where it’s coming from - there’s nothing above the cabinet except the ceiling and a hanging light but they don’t seem to be the source. I never hear it dropping onto the cabinet, or see it dropping, it’s just there!

Where is it coming from?!

If you zoom in on the light fitting there looks to be a little hole where the cable goes into the ceiling rose. My moneys on that.

Can you put something sticky on the surface of bedside table to catch the Elf/spider

If it's coming out though the ceiling rose then it'll be on the top of light shade too, and I think the OP said she'd checked that.

@Wendyer if you've not looked at the top of the lamp shade on the light hanging from the ceiling do so now!! If there no grit on that then it can't be coming out though the rose.

Also if it's something like nice, you'd have heard them.

cheeseisthebest · 12/12/2021 08:26

Blatantly placemarking!

Trixiefirecracker · 12/12/2021 08:27

@LavenderAskew It’s NOT a ceiling rose!!! 😳😳😳

WarblingWith · 12/12/2021 08:28

Another shameless place mark here, and I need your dog!
Thank you for the toilet plate link, whoever posted that.
You have fab kids OP!

poolblue · 12/12/2021 08:29

You don't sleepwalk do you? You could be making secret trips to the kitchen and helping yourself to biscuits and then leaving crumbs around. Dare you taste it?
@LavenderAskew It’s NOT a ceiling rose!!! 😳😳😳
What do you think it is?

Iheartmydog · 12/12/2021 08:33

Placemarking too!

doublemonkey · 12/12/2021 08:35

I've had this type of grit on the floor near skirting boards from ants. I assume they do a bit of digging and clearing out and just chuck the stuff into the room.

Not sure how that could end up on a higher up surface though. 🤔

HereticFanjo · 12/12/2021 08:37

How did I reach my forties without knowing spiders poo?!

Hoppinggreen · 12/12/2021 08:37

The photo of the xmas tree holding pickled onions explains the whole thing if you look closely enough

Hollywolly1 · 12/12/2021 08:40

I think definitely wood worm and I'm thinking would the heat from the lamp or light above be encouraging them up to the surface much quicker,maybe that's silly so just an idea. I think you may get that piece of furniture out of your house immediately before everything else gets infected like your floors etc..
Unless your piece of furniture has coronavirus I am all out of 💡

Handholdtoday · 12/12/2021 08:41

@Hoppinggreen Stardust? 🤣

Hollywolly1 · 12/12/2021 08:41

Ideas @🤣

It is a ceiling rose.

It just isn't a decorative one.

HeronLanyon · 12/12/2021 08:43

A ceiling ‘weed’ ?

LavenderAskew · 12/12/2021 08:49

@Trixiefirecracker

I’m just here to say that a plastic light fixture is not a ceiling rose snd that spiders technically don’t have ‘blood’. Am feeling unnecessarily upset about the ceiling rose post for some bizarre reason. Misses whole point of thread …I do hope you find the culprit though.
Oh missed this first read, about @Trixiefirecracker being upset at people calling the plastic light fitting a ceiling rose. Evidently I was skimming though the post too quick.

As Pinkflipflop85 said, it is a ceiling rose. I'm still interested to know what you think it's called.

Howmanyflippingstone · 12/12/2021 08:51

Way overinvested here Grin Could it be from the headboard of your bed op? Ours is some form of man-made leather and it's started flaking away and I keep finding bits of it around.

Guidancillary · 12/12/2021 08:54

Spider poop. Get a can of spider killer and go all Ghostbusters on the tbroom

Lightstoobright · 12/12/2021 09:09

I actually dreamt about this last night. I saw and heard something fall onto the paper from the ceiling, but that's all I can say. It was very vivid. Over invested much?

Handholdtoday · 12/12/2021 09:10

I want OP to wake up so I can see how much has accumulated

peridito · 12/12/2021 09:11

Did the OP set a sticky trap ?

My twopennyworth - residue looks too irregular to be spider droppings ( and how many spiders would there need to be to produce so much in 24 hours?)And not sure about woodworm ,having googled surely they produce fine sawdust ?
