Huge kitten regret

We've had a kitten for about two months now and I have so much regret about getting him.
He's a beautiful little boy and I love him to pieces but he's such a handful I feel like I can't cope. He bites and scratches despite being constantly redirected to a 'legal' biting toy. He has every toy you can think of and I play one on one with him a lot, I'm guided by him and stop when I see that he's had enough and leave him to play on his own. He hardly sleeps though and ramps up his biting when he's seriously overtired, my husband is for some reason the main target of his biting. I'm anxious and desperately trying not to let bites happen.
I feel like every single aspect of our lives has been disrupted, I can't sit down to knit or crochet because he's on me trying to bite my moving hands.
He's not destructive towards furniture, he uses the litter box perfectly, he eats well and has been declared beautifully healthy by the vet.
I feel like such a pathetic failure and fully expect to be told that's exactly what I am. I want to cry I feel so bad about this.
Will he get better? Has anyone else had serious remorse after getting a pet?

Haven’t RTFT but wanted to join and say that “hissing” at the kitten when he’s engaging in destructive behaviour may work. I do this to my 3 cats (all adopted as kittens, from feral/stray backgrounds) and it generally works! Another thing that works - and is even weirder - is to make another sound that scares them a little. For my cats it’s the “om” sound - I discovered they were terrified by it when the 3 of them ran away scared when I was chanting at a yoga video! I only do it when strictly necessary (eg when they are scratching the furniture) and it always works. Your cat may need another sound though!
Amazing! Grin

I could have written this when we first got our kitten! He has always used his litterbox perfectly and never really scratched or damaged any furniture, but he was VERY bitey and excitable as a kitten. We had a lot of distracting toys and followed all the advice but it seemed to make little difference and as insane as it probably sounds I remember one day holding him in the kitchen and crying a bit because I thought he would never grow out of biting Grin He absolutely grew out of it, I look back on those young kitten days and it's like a different cat. He's only about 6.5 months now (was neutered earlier this week) but he's been MUCH better for ages now, he is so loving and affectionate and the apple of our eyes. Still loves a zoom around the house but understands that biting is a no-no. It can seem hopeless but it's really not OP Flowers

Thank you for this :) I did so much reading and video watching before we got him that I fancied myself as a bit of an expert. Totally laughable now.

Thank you everyone, he really is the most adorable little boy.

My friends took in a kitten and she was wild and violent. She'd chase you whenever you walked through the flat and wrap around your legs, biting and kicking. She'd do the same to your arms when you were just sitting minding your own business. She attacked my hair and my clip-in ponytail came off! She has calmed down now but it seems some kittens are just like this.

Neutering has had no effect on our kitten - he was tired for a day or two but is now back to his usual self. We got him on his own but after a week went back for another - a life saver having two. He was very demanding and a nightmare at night, once the second one arrived (a half sibling) it was a big relief.

I've never had this problem. Our cat came at 4 months from cats protection. We did let her out from quite young. She goes off exploring then comes back for food and sleep. She plays with our dog and puppy. The puppy on the other hand is a nightmare and I can relate to those feelings with the puppy.
