I can’t say this IRL it’s too embarrassing.

Coldplay - my universe.

I thought it was called “my hidden reverse” and the Japanese singing was some sort of reverse singing hidden message. Just realised the lyrics in Apple Music lyrics are not a subliminal reverse massage but Japanese lyrics. Thank god I didn’t sing that out loud at work - hidden reverse.

What can’t you say in real life? “Sing lyrics” instead of “song lyrics”?

I am bamboozled by your hidden Japanese reverse, I’m afraid. Did you mis-hear the words as “hidden reverse” or did you think that the lyrics in reverse said something disturbing like “I love satan” or “Gary Barlow’s range of organic wines is available at Morrisons” or something?

Smoothsoul · 11/12/2021 00:57

@Iamthewombat

Not that confusing or difficult to understand tbh.

I posted as a bit of a light hearted laugh at my misheard lyric.

I thought the song was called hidden reverse.

The Japanese verse I though that’s someone signing backwards eg in reverse.

I was in my early teens when Nelly - Ride wit' me came out and I played it/sang along non stop.

About 6 months ago I heard it and realised that I had been singing about "3 wimmin in the back with their goatees" which my adult self realised made absolutely no sense so I googled it.

It's "3 wheelin' in the fo' with the gold D's"... Although to be fair that doesn't make much sense to me either!

APJ1 · 11/12/2021 20:38

Oh dear, the very dedicated BTS fanbase would totally rip you apart for talking 'Japanese lyrics' on that song!

mnp321 · 11/12/2021 20:43

I'm sorry to corrupt a sweet and innocent song but when I'm listening to Michael Buble sing "Cold December Night", my mind twists "old Saint Nick has taken flight with a heart on board" to "with a hard on". I think it's an accent thing and pronouncing Ts as Ds.

paisley256 · 12/12/2021 00:45

The Police - Message in a Bottle. I was convinced he was singing " A year has passed since I broke my nose" instead of " A year has passed since I wrote my note".

Another is Your Song by Elton John. I was happily singing " I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I work down in the woods, how wonderful life is when your in thw woods" instead of "I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in the words, how wonderful life is while you're in the world Grin

I’ve thought my entire life that Michael Jackson was singing ‘Eddie are you wonky, are you wonky Eddie’ in Smooth Criminal until about a month ago when I discovered it was ‘Annie are you ok’ Hmm

Laufeythejust · 12/12/2021 00:56

I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw this and it blew my mind. Song is ruined for me now though, strong believes aren’t as fun as a trombolese.

As a little girl I used to prance around thinking I was Madonna singing ‘Poppadum Bridge, I’m in trouble deep, Poppadum Bridge, I’ve been losing sleep…’ I had no idea it was Papa Don’t Preach.

2pinkginsplease · 12/12/2021 01:14

Lady Gaga Paparazzi.

When dd was little she used to sing Baa Baa baa baa black sheep! Instead of Papa, papa paparazzi! 😂😂😂

KloppsTeeth · 12/12/2021 01:17

“You’re here, that’s the way us should be, snow is falling with a capital C!” made no sense to me, and of course it is “snow is falling whilst the carollers sing”.

Wiley “Heatwave” sings “when I arrive, I’m causing a heatwave” and me and my kids started laughing because it sounded to us like he sings “when I’m riiiiiiiigh, then I’m balls in a heatwave like he was really singing about sweaty bollocks.

KloppsTeeth · 12/12/2021 01:30

They’re all coming back to me now:

American National Anthem “oh say can’t you see”, I heard
“José can’t you see” like it was some sort of big F you to the Mexicans.

Jason Derulo had “the shits on the floor, nothing on me!”

George Ezra “but for you, yoooou, you, I’ll diddley-doh!”

Maggie May by Rod Stewart was “as blind as fool can be” but for years I thought he was “as blind as a fuckin’ bee”

Elton John Step into Christmas. I always hear the chorus as ‘The Officious Tree’ rather than ‘the admission’s free’. 😳

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 12/12/2021 01:43

It took me until yesterday to realise that 'I'll fight that girl underneath the mistletoe' is actually 'I'll FIND that girl underneath the mistletoe in Shakin Stevens Merry Christmas Everyone.

mumofEandE · 12/12/2021 09:48

Alanis Morrisette 'Ironic'
I used to sing 'death row hard on' not 'death row pardon'

I used to think it was about a woman called Trombolese. "My love ain't got no money, he's got his trombolese."
GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 12/12/2021 10:05

Years ago at university a friend of mine was singing while we walked home from the pub and I completely lost it with laughter..."dip, dip, dippy in your coffee cup..." should actually be the song by Right Said Fred "deeply dippy 'bout the curves you got". My friend was always mishearing lyrics and I absolutely loved her for it!

MartyHart · 12/12/2021 10:08

Madonna La Isla Bonita
Just like a leprechaun she knew the song, young girl with eyes like potatoes."

surreymum89 · 12/12/2021 10:14

@Laufeythejust Shock I never even questioned what trombelese was Grin

BabyLove22 · 12/12/2021 10:29

Freda Payne - band of gold, used to always think it said "all that's left is a bag of bones"

Electric light orchestra - evil women, I used to think it said "illegal woman"

I feel your pain OP 😂

AndSoFinally · 12/12/2021 11:08

I thought "forever in blue jeans" was about a hip vicar, Reverend Blue Jeans 😳

belimoo · 12/12/2021 11:21

It's called a mondegreen: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondegreen

One of my favourites was somebody who misheard the lyrics to the Toys R Us advert and thought it said 'there's millions of debris all under one roof'.

frogsbreath · 12/12/2021 11:25

Hope this link works. Wee boy singing jingle bells with misheard lyrics is an absolute riot Grin

Me neither. It's been very enlightening

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 12/12/2021 11:34

Golden Brown, texture like sun
Lays me down, with my mancherons.
