How do I get an Iceland shop 40 mins home?

talkalarm · 08/12/2021 11:01

I've bought a huge freezer, I would love to do an Iceland shop but they don't deliver to me and my nearest is 40 mins drive away.

I assume everything will melt on the drive home? Is there a solution I've missed?

Definitely insulated bags and not worry because it's cold out there. Plus all the frozen food will be in with each other. It would take more than 40 minutes to defrost.

ufucoffee · 08/12/2021 11:57

Just drive home. I wouldn't worry about it at all

Shedmistress · 08/12/2021 11:59

I used to defrost my freezer over a few hours by putting all frozen stuff together in a black bag, tied tight on our cold garage floor. Only things like ice a cream started to go a bit soft. It was all packed together so stayed cool.

Defrosting my freezer is what I used snow days for. Bag it all up, pop it out in the snow and turn freezer off, fill with towels. Then later on, dry it out, turn it on and repack it.

We've done a two day drive back from South of France keeping cheese/meats etc fresh by using a com box and buying a bag of ice to sacrifice to keep it cold. Bottles of water frozen also work well.
If my camembert can survive that I would hope it would work for you. I'd prioritise meat/fish going in the box and things like chips/peas can take the risk a bit

Wombat69 · 08/12/2021 12:01

We have frozen dogfood sent to us overnight & it's fine with a bit of insulation & cardboard.

Intheopinionofourexpert · 08/12/2021 12:01

Blankets or a duvet if you're really concerned. As for the comment about only selling heavily processed junk, that's nonsense.

TurnUpTurnip · 08/12/2021 12:02

It will be fine, I don’t drive and get the bus home so my shopping can easily be out for 40 mins or
More, never occurred to me to be worried about this

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 08/12/2021 12:04

Frozen stuff surround by boxes of other frozen stuff will not melt during a 40 min drive in December.

Hellocatshome · 08/12/2021 12:06

Iceland deliver for free

SoupDragon · 08/12/2021 12:10

Iceland do not deliver to the OP's address.

talkalarm · 08/12/2021 12:16

Thanks everyone Smile all very reassuring. A trip to fill the freezer this weekend then ...

As pp have said, it’ll be just fine. Pack it all into bags and it’ll keep well. Even if starts to thaw a tiny bit it’ll still be just fine. If you’re worried you could buy some cooler bags/boxes.

tintodeverano2 · 08/12/2021 13:11

Never had a problem! Apart from ice cream! The Iceland reusable cool bags are really good. I use them all the time and they must be about ten years old now!

ODFOgrinch · 08/12/2021 13:24

@elizabethdraper

There is only heavily processed junk in Iceland.

You are not missing out on anything

I find their frozen fish selection pretty good actually. There are lots of convenience foods but quite a bit of meat/fish/simple veg/herbs available too.
LefttoherownDevizes · 08/12/2021 13:27

@talkalarm do you have all Aldi nearby? They have a fab frozen section too, really good quality frozen fish/meat plus convenience bits.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 08/12/2021 13:31

I’ve got ice cream home from over an hour away, still frozen. Pack it in bags, put it all close together in the boot and then cover in a towel/blanket and then a duvet. Keep the cold from escaping!

You're so wrong! They do fresh produce as well as frozen fruits/veg/meat/fish. Its not all ready meals. Dont be such a snob

Wondered how long before somebody said this.

Snobbery and food shaming at its finest 👏

OP, for 40 mins you will be fine, especially in winter. Remember loads of frozen stuff all packed together will be much slower to defrost than one single item.

stingofthebutterfly · 08/12/2021 13:58

It's freezing. It'll be fine.

daisyjgrey · 08/12/2021 14:19

Sometimes I read thread titles and have an immediate one word response. Like "is my husband being a twat?" And my brain will automatically go "probably".

I read yours and my brain went "quickly". So I'm going with that answer.

KittenCatcher · 08/12/2021 14:26

I love Iceland, their frozen fish and veg , fresh veg and bread, condiments, sauces, parry food, pastries.

gogohm · 08/12/2021 14:45

Boot, don't have the car heating on. It's cold outside!

justasking111 · 08/12/2021 15:16

Iceland do a good range of frozen vegetables and fruits, meat on the hoof too. For ready meals aka junk all the supermarket stores sell that kind of thing.

Mrsjayy · 08/12/2021 19:38

Ah sorry I didn't even notice you said they don't deliver to you Blush

Oldraver · 08/12/2021 20:03

If your that bothered bye a pack of ice
