Do you know of any nice UK hotels with farm or petting zoo on site?

Just that really..!

This summer, we stayed in a lovely self catering cottage complex in Dorset which had a selection of animals in paddocks for DCs to feed, groom and stroke.
They had a couple of donkeys, some tame sheep, goats and chickens, who all happily came for carrots and cuddles.

6 months on, DC talk about it EVERY day.

The only downside was that it was self catering accommodation and it wasn't much of a holiday for us cooking, shopping and cleaning so we would love to find a similar animal set up but within a hotel.

I've googled like mad but can't find anything but am sure it must exist somewhere?!

Has anyone ever come across this? Ideally not just one or two pet rabbits that can be watched through the fence, but somewhere where they can pop along and see/feed the animals throughout the day

Hideaway camping in narbeth Pembrokeshire have just started doing a b&b suite which looks fantastic. They have lots of animals and its fantastic.

When I was a child we used to go on holiday to Devon to stay on a farm, which I loved. I wondered if the same is still possible & googled "farm stays Devon" & there seemed to be quite a few although I didn't actually click on anything.

Thanks both,
Will look into your suggestions

I just want somewhere with a restaurant/bar and someone else to clean the rooms so DH and I can feel like we are getting some sort of holiday as well..!

Coombe mill is Cornwall fab but self catering again I am afraid. They did do home made frozen meals for sale if that helps when we were last there.

RockingGazelle · 06/12/2021 19:31

This isn't helpful at all so I apologise but @SW1amp the self catering place in Dorset sounds just like what I've been.looking for! Do you have a link?

minipie · 06/12/2021 19:32

Hmm, Woolley Grange has ducks chickens and rabbits but not a full on farm.

You might have more luck looking for a farm stay that will provide dinner?

We’ve actually done that! But it’s £1k a night so was a very special one off for a very special occasion. We couldn’t stretch to a week there, sadly
And the tigers weren’t very strokeable..!

If you stayed on Anglesey there are some nice hotels in menai bridge (chateaux rhianfa if you want to go up market) area you would be a short drive from Foel Farm, pili palas and Anglesey sea zoo which would all be perfect for your DC. There are holiday cottages closer to Foel Farm/the sea zoo but no hotels.

Clymene · 06/12/2021 19:58

Not U.K. but kinderhotels in Austria do it.

stripetop · 06/12/2021 20:03

I'm sure Crieff hydro have animals. Loads of family offers, free childcare etc.

BeautifulBirds · 06/12/2021 20:11

Cheekily placemarking for holiday plans later!!

Honeyroar · 06/12/2021 20:14

Two separate places, but Grains Bar Hotel in the Pennines above Manchester, is right next door to Little Owl Farm, which is a petting farm.

Ahhh the first one on that list looked absolutely perfect, until I saw the small print that they don’t accept children under 10 Sad

This was lovely. A few rescue pets there, and play equipment that went down well.

Chessington?

SW1amp · 06/12/2021 21:36

Thanks @Ormally

Looks great other than being self catering

@RockingGazelle
The place in Dorset we went to this year is called Luccombe and is absolutely wonderful
www.luccombeholidays.co.uk/

The very best thing about it was the paddock of friendly donkeys that we went and brushed every morning after breakfast, and the ducks that would eat out of our hands..! Plus the goats and sheep and chickens

The pool and play equipment was also great but if we could find somewhere with the animals AND room service or a bar, I would be in heaven

You could save your ££££ from the Tiger Lodge-type madness and pay for taxis out to dinner at naice local pubs and testaurants around the place in Dorset that your children love so much. Two taxis home if your DH wants to stay on for an extra pint. Just a thought…

SW1amp · 06/12/2021 21:52

@boatyardblues

It’s actually walking distance to a really nice pub!

But that still doesn’t get away from needing to cook 3 meals a day, go to the supermarket every few days, have to clean the bathroom and make the beds and all the other downsides of self catering accommodation

It’s not ‘madness’ to want a holiday for all of us, including me and DH to have a break from cooking and cleaning!

How about staying here: www.eveshamhotel.com/
You'll be near a fabulous children's playpark in Evesham itself, also close to All Things Wild www.allthingswild.co.uk/ which has loads for kids to do, including feeding deer and petting animals and there are two steam railways nearby amongst other things.
