Rash on DD - help please?

Tinks15 · 05/12/2021 22:10

Can anyone please tell me what this rash is that’s just appearing on my little girl - it’s just woken her up as she’s saying it’s really itchy. It’s mainly on her arms, but there is also small bit on her tummy & back.

Call 111.

Myusername2015 · 05/12/2021 22:11

Looks like hives. Does she have them normally?

PineappleWilson · 05/12/2021 22:12

I'd say heat rash or an allergy. Have you changed washing powder? Try an antihistamine to help reduce the itch.

Looks like hives. Do you have any antihistamines? Has she any allergies?

BleuJay · 05/12/2021 22:13

Looks like a heat/sweat rash.

ofwarren · 05/12/2021 22:14

Looks like she is allergic to something

Somebodylikeyew · 05/12/2021 22:15

Another vote for hives/urticaria here which is a symptom rather than a diagnosis really. Often an allergic reaction but my son often came out in them when he had a virus (any virus) at her age…. any other symptoms?

ShowOfHands · 05/12/2021 22:18

Agree, hives. Sometimes an allergy but in young children, the majority of outbreaks are a response to a virus. DS had his first hive outbreak after a nasty cold.

Tinks15 · 05/12/2021 22:21

No other symptoms at the moment, I’ve just taken her temperature & that’s fine - she’s just saying it’s really itchy poor thing Sad, she’s not had this ever before.

I don’t think we have any antihistamine in. I will have to get some tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do to help her try & settle for the night?

Should I be worried about this rash? I’m in panic mode now.

Is there anything new or recently changed which has been in contact with her skin? Washing powder, softener, clothes, bedding, a toy? Dd had the same thing and it was down to a toy we'd brought down from the loft, after it had been up there a while, it was causing a reaction on her skin.

NMC2022 · 05/12/2021 22:36

Agree with hives (I get them as I'm allergic to heat/exercise/change in temperature)

Mangofandangoo · 05/12/2021 22:38

Viral hives OP - we've had it several times. I think some kids just get it and some don't

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 05/12/2021 22:38

Have you got any emollient cream or anti itching cream?

Has she been in contact with anything different or new? You could do with some piriton or other anti-histamine as others have said . Have you got an open supermarket near you, you could get to? You can buy it off the shelf.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/12/2021 22:42

My ds had the exact same rash last year. I gave him antihistamines and put some aloe Vera gel on it as far as I can remember.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/12/2021 22:42

He was fine, it just disappeared eventually.

Tinks15 · 05/12/2021 22:43

It’s strange because I can’t think of anything, I haven’t changed washing powder or softener, she’s not had any different toys & her bedding hasn’t been changed.

The only thing I can think of is it maybe her Christmas jumper that she’s worn today that I didn’t wash before she wore - it’s brand new. Could it be that? Thing is though i never wash new items before they wear them & she’s not had this before.

I’m racking my brain trying to think if it could be anything else.

As others have said looks like hives I used to call it maps

I tend to get on stomach and thighs

Mine is triggered by tiredness or stress diary then seems to make it worse

Sometimes it’s been because of soaps/washing powder

Antihistamine works and I have a prescription ointment from the GP (it’s a little like Vaseline) it’s clears it up very quickly

SmellyOldOwls · 05/12/2021 22:50

My friends little boy had uticaria, eventually she figured out he had begun reacting to squash and had to cut it out of his diet.

OhWhyNot · 05/12/2021 22:50

I always wash clothes (i use non biological) so cold be that

Sometimes it just happens and hard to pinpoint why

foxgoosefinch · 05/12/2021 22:53

Looks like classic hives as pp say - I got them randomly last week for no apparent reason!

If you don’t have antihistamine in, try holding a cool damp cloth on the skin to calm it down a bit.

Can be washing powder, cold, even a virus.

Tinks15 · 05/12/2021 22:54

Thanks everyone - really appreciate you all commenting - I will have to go & get some antihistamine for her.

She’s struggling to get back off to sleep now, she’s only 3 bless her so she doesn’t really understand.

What about a cool bath to soothe?

I'd say likely the Xmas jumper.. Ds gets it with wool blend type stuff. Has to wear a long sleeve cotton top underneath

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 05/12/2021 23:01

Bless her. Have you got any Aveeno in the house? Or porridge oats, soak them in water then gently with a flannel/muslin, bad some of the oaty water on & let it air dry. It'll help soothe it for tonight. I get awful hives from all manner of things. They can be very painful & itchy.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 05/12/2021 23:01

*pat not bad Confused

Mooscow · 05/12/2021 23:04

My DS always gets urticaria like this with a virus. In some cases you can literally watch it spread over his skin - fascinating really!

It could be the jumper or it could be a virus. But doesn't look like anything to worry about.
