Do you give a 4 year old Christmas pudding?

Just that really. My dd has just turned 4 and I was thinking it would be nice for her to have some Christmas pudding this Christmas. I have checked the ingredients and it has brandy /alcohol listed. She has nut allergies so it's not like all I have to do is find a different one which doesn't have alcohol. I have to make sure they are made in a nut free facility /no risk of cc etc. So, do you give your 4 year old Christmas pudding which has alcohol as an ingredient? Thank you in advance

The actual alcohol gets cooked away during the cooking of it. Its just the flavour that stays. Its fine.

BendingSpoons · 05/12/2021 20:24

A little bit, but I don't think she likes it much anyway. I sometimes get a yule log or similar too, and she prefers that.

That's a myth. It doesn't all get cooked out.

Yes of course, if they want it. Provided it's nut free in your case, obviously.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 05/12/2021 20:36

They are really simple to make, honestly.
Then you can leave out the nuts and alcohol. I also reduce the sugar.

What a question! 😂😂😂

Chewbecca · 05/12/2021 20:44

I’ve eaten it all my life, as did my DC and now my GC also get given a spoonful.

It totally depends how long and hot you cook it

feedmemincepies · 05/12/2021 20:46

IME most kids don't like it. Don't waste good Christmas pudding on a child!
In all seriousness, yes I would let a 4 year old eat Christmas pudding if they wanted some

ShowOfHands · 05/12/2021 20:47

My DC have had Christmas pudding all their lives!

Just make your own. I make one without alcohol and diabetic friendly and the other nut free for another family member.

NeverTheHootenanny · 05/12/2021 20:52

I gave my two year old some Christmas cake the other day and didn’t realise until afterwards that it had brandy in it Blush She loved it and keeps asking for more, I’ve had to hide it!

Garman · 05/12/2021 20:56

Yes I do, mine have both loved it since they were 2ish.

honeylulu · 05/12/2021 20:56

My kids have always had it too. Originally with ice cream, then they discovered brandy butter!!!

Honestly when they are little they have such a tiny amount it won't make much difference. I was more worried about all the dried fruit giving them splatty nappies but even that didn't happen.

PuppyMonkey · 05/12/2021 20:58

I mean come on, nobody likes Christmas pudding it’s vile. Don’t give a kid that.Grin

Maryann1975 · 05/12/2021 21:01

If they wanted it, I’d let them have some, but even as teens they aren’t keen, so I’d rather save it and have it for tea. I tend to buy some kind of chocolate pudding for them instead.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2021 21:02

Christmas pudding is horrible, I wouldn't inflict it on my DC.

simonisnotme · 05/12/2021 21:02

why not
theres a miniscule amount of booze in it, if she likes dried fruit then give her some with a dollop of custard

Christmas1988 · 05/12/2021 21:03

Christmas pudding is a fairly adult taste, I don’t know any children that actually like it, apart from my DB but as a child he’d eat anything. Give her a portion to spit out if you wish.

toomuchlaundry · 05/12/2021 21:04

How much alcohol is in either a Christmas cake or pudding, so how much would be in a child portion?

WineIsMyCarb · 05/12/2021 21:04

Give them Xmas pudding - if the alcohol hasn't burnt off then at least they'll sleep well! It's 3 mouthfuls of pudding with a trace of booze in, not an espresso martini in their sippy cup!

RodneyIsDave · 05/12/2021 21:08

Asda do alone without nuts and alcohol.

Auntycorruption · 05/12/2021 21:09

My kids ate Christmas pudding from their first Xmas at 8/9 months old

WaltzingTilda · 05/12/2021 21:18

Thank you so much all for your replies. I think I'll have a look in Asda to see if they have an alcohol and nut free one, if they don't have it in stock , I'll give her a tiny taste of one which has alcohol. Tbh, I don't think she'll like it much, but I was feeling bad to stop her trying some. I'll get a nut feee yule log as well and as she loves chocolate I am sure she'll like it Flowers

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/12/2021 21:39

My brilliant old recipe doesn’t have brandy in it, only brown ale, and the alcohol I use for flaming it (50/50 brandy and vodka) would virtually all burn off anyway.

I’d give some to any child who wanted it without a second thought., But most small children tend not to like it anyway.
