A thrilling thread about toasters.

I am in need of a new toaster. Mine only toasts one side of the bread and I am fed up of having to turn it round.

I currently have a Morphy Richards 4 slice one. I would like another 4 slice one in black. And like to be able put the bread in the slot sideways so it all gets toasted evenly.

Tell me about your lovely toasters as I have no idea where to start. I don't mind spending a bit of money to get a decent one. Thanks!

@TheDogsMother

We have the Dualit Architect which has been good. It can deal with bread, bagels etc of varying thickness.
This!

I couldnt resist and purchased the matching kettle too (Dualit Architect) I can also vouch for the Bean to Cup Dualit coffee machine too. They are 5 years and still going strong.

The Dualit architect style wouldn't really fit with the vibe of our kitchen.

I won't be getting an Asda one as I have no Asda near me. I have an Amazon voucher so it will probably come from there.
You do realise that Asda George can be bought online and will deliver?

Well that's probably a good thing because we also have that one and ours only toasts on one side and you can't get Warburtons toastie bread in sideways so have to turn it round, flip it over and keep an eye on it because once it's warmed up it goes from underdone to charcoal bread in seconds.

Honestly OP, it sounds like you're asking for the moon on a stick here. I'm not sure such a product exists.

We might all think that toasters aren't that complicated and have one fairly simple job to do but, given the number of shit toasters out there, we're all a bit unrealistic in our expectations of their performance at the task of making evenly toasted toast and being appropriately sized to accept bread to be toasted.

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/12/2021 16:26

I have a toaster that is in theory for four slices, but actually it's just two long slits that will toast any size of bread. I got mine from sainsburys, I think.

HelebethH · 04/12/2021 16:31

I do not use a toaster, just the grill on my top oven. Fits any size and toasts evenly. I gave up on toasters years ago

Herecomesthesun70 · 04/12/2021 16:33

I've just had a Breville black 4 slice with a matching kettle.

It's pretty good as toasters go and looks good too

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2021 17:25

@BarbaraofSeville I don't think I am asking for the moon on a stick at all. I already linked to two that I am considering. I will probably go for the Dualit one.

Got a Dualit one. I like the bagel button. Pretty sure it doesn't do much but it's satisfying to click it. Got the kettle too. Lasted a lot longer than anything I've had before.

I have that one too.

Two of the slots stopped working when it was just out of guarantee. As did a Dualit coffee maker.

LouMoo13 · 04/12/2021 17:41

We've just got this one (in a different colour) so far so good. Will take slices sideways www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/small-kitchen-appliances/toasters/delonghi-micalite-ctom4003-4-slice-toaster-black-21522517-pdt.html

Sorry, I was being sarcastic due to the shitness of toasters and the seeming inability of any manufacturer to produce a fit for purpose product able to competently undertake what appears to be a fairly simple process.
