A thrilling thread about toasters.

I am in need of a new toaster. Mine only toasts one side of the bread and I am fed up of having to turn it round.

I currently have a Morphy Richards 4 slice one. I would like another 4 slice one in black. And like to be able put the bread in the slot sideways so it all gets toasted evenly.

Tell me about your lovely toasters as I have no idea where to start. I don't mind spending a bit of money to get a decent one. Thanks!

I like having a long slot toaster. Then it will toast the whole slice in one go. They can also toast pitta bread.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2021 09:35

Ooh a long slot one - I hadn't considered that. I do pitta in mine and just turn them round halfway. What sort do you have @Kpo58?

Has no one else got toaster recommendations?

We have a Morphy Richards Evoke that fits sliced bread but looking at this picture www.morphyrichards.co.uk/shop-now/toasters/240115-Evoke-Special-Edition-White-and-Rose-Gold-4-Slice-Toaster I am suspicious that they are using "thin" sliced bread rather than your average Hovis to demonstrate you can fit it in portrait.

I have a Dualit Lite 4 slice. I like it a lot.

Asda George black 4-slice. Takes Warburtons bread, on its side, so you get a lovely even toast.

Sadly I don't. Went right off them one morning when a mouse jumped out.

Hope you get a good one though!

I only have the 2 slice one but I recommend a Dualit newgen. You can set how many slots are toasting so don’t need to waste energy if you just want 1 or 2 slices. It toasts really well and is completely repairable. Plus you can get a toastie cage for making toasties or for easy retrieval of teacakes etc, and there is also a bagel setting which is good for aforementioned teacakes, bagels etc as it just toasts one side.

My mouse in toaster story has a different ending....... as did the mouse. Sad

What I don’t understand about this vital toaster thread is why long slot toasters are so thin on the ground. I only ever want a long slot toaster so I can toast eg sourdough or long luttas/flatbreads. So hard to find !

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2021 11:31

I won't be getting an Asda one as I have no Asda near me. I have an Amazon voucher so it will probably come from there.

@HeronLanyon for dualit toasters you can get a rack that sits on top, then you can do long things but also stuff like warming croissants. When I do pittas I usually just put them in the slot and then turn them halfway through though.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2021 11:40

I am considering the Dualit 46205 in black at the moment.

However I also love the Cuisinart one on pistachio.

I will see if I can find pictures of them.

tufty me too when faced with a small slot toaster. I’m just dreading when my old long slot dies. It kind of needs to be replaced now but the options are unbelievably limited.

ApolloandDaphne · 04/12/2021 11:42

Beautiful option and would need the kettle to match!

We have the Dualit Architect which has been good. It can deal with bread, bagels etc of varying thickness.

I don't believe you can get spare parts (other than decorative panels) for the Dualit Architect range of toasters?

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 04/12/2021 12:45

My Dualit lite also has a bagel settings and probably other things I’ve never used. It’s a good toaster though.
