If I liked 'Holidate' what else would I like (don't judge me)

I watched this a few days ago, and unexpectedly really enjoyed it.

Anything of a similar ilk on Netflix? Doesn't have to be Christmassey per se, but needs to be light entertainment.

I loved Love Hard so tried Holidate (at home in PJs with suspected Covid right now). I hated Holidate. I thought he was such a horrible character. All those outdated Hollywood tropes of negging a woman and shoving people out of the way because you getting your man at the end is the only thing that matters, and then that cheesy bit with the microphone. Ew. (Sorry OP. Judging the film, not you.) Love Hard didn't fall into any of those traps and was so sweet as a result.
Its funny as I didn't rate Love Hard at all.

Not sure why? Maybe I was expecting more or maybe it was just a touch too unbelievable.

I also watched "always be my maybe" which again was alright but not great.

Also watched Dumplin' which I did enjoy.

Only one I'd watch again is Holidate though (only thing I hated was how the male lead took the aunt to the wedding, that would have been instant N.C for me Grin)

I'll check out Single all the way at the weekend.

@Watapalava

Netflix “home for Christmas” is one of the best series I’ve ever watched - absolutely loved it!

It’s Scandinavian and subtitled but it’s fabulous

Have just watched the first three episodes and if I didn’t have stupid work in the morning I’d happily sit here and watch the next 3. So good!

@OhRexy

Father Christmas is back or something like that. Terrible film, watch it. It's got Kelsey Grammar, Caroline Quentin, Liz Hurley and John Cleese in. So random.
Oh I had to turn it off. I can't believe Quentin agreed to that. Hurley is sooo awful.

12 dates of Christmas on prime video. So good. Like a Christmas Groundhog Day. And midnight at the Magnolia

I hated him from the start. He went to a girl's home for Christmas and didn't bother bringing her a present. He storms off because her parents get the wrong idea and he doesn't like the decor in her bedroom but waits until she finishes giving him a BJ. He grans the generous and thoughtful present she bought him (three sizes of golfing trousers to ensure one fits) and then gets a refund for them. What a grasping lowlife of a man. Then he negs the lead by telling her she's not attractive to him.

I hate how Hollywood tries to teach women that revolting men are romantic.

That's why I liked Love Hard. He did something wrong and she was absolutely furious (healthy!) He owned up and tried to make up for it (healthy) and he was actually a really lovely, funny man whose personality she had already fallen for.

Hey fellow romcomoisseurs Grin

How are you getting on?

I haven't started Begin Again because of the potential tears. )it's been a bit of a week)

But I have started Home For Christmas,

AND I've ticked off Single All The Way, Free Guy and Christmas with the Coopers.

Single All The Way is properly wholesome wholesome, but I had extremely unwholesome thoughts about Jake Lacey's character in Christmas With The Coopers. BlushGrin

What have you all been watching?

doadeer · 15/12/2021 16:40

A Christmas prince 👌

Basically any of the Netflix Christmas movies!

StormyCornishSeas · 15/12/2021 20:47

Just watched Single all the way. Perfect easy watching whilst doing Christmas cards so that I don't need to provide my full attention . Really liked it

JustLikeaJingleBell · 15/12/2021 23:00

I see I'm not the only one that unexpectedly enjoyed Love Hard.

I also watched Castle for Christmas all the way through and enjoyed it for what it was.

BustedCanOfBiscuits · 16/12/2021 18:21

I'm watching Single All The Way tonight, and I have Mixtape on my list

StormyCornishSeas · 16/12/2021 21:42

I'm half way through the California Christmas- City lights sequel on Netflix.

I couldn't remember watching the first one at first but it came rushing back to me. It's very similar to the first one Grin
